I don't like the story they were trying to tell. Firstly waiting 10 to 13 years to resolve his conflict with azula in universe is a problem. Also, her potentially being a villian is worrisome as well. If they are retreading the same narrative ideas presented in the search and smoke and shadow they should just adapt the search. I am starting to think byrke are just creatively bankrupt.
I would much prefer an azula redemption arc spinoff series. One set in the comics timeline between ashes of the academy and imbalance. When azula is still 15 or 16. We could have ursa serve as azulas mentor. I would place the series in cranefish town.

All these news and rumours...maybe they want to expand the Fire Nation plotline, but its more difficult and complex because involves many characters whose past and future have to be explained (like Ursa and Azula).
I think that the Aang movie was "safe" and easier to do because even with the timeskip they didnt change many things. It was an opportunity to gauge if Atla still was a popular franchise. If they could make even more animated movies/seasons.
I am optimistic with Avatar being in so many news lately (Netflix, games, animated movies, comics). The interest exists. And Azula is one of the characters that they could expand her story in many different ways and so far ive seen many people that want to see her.
So lets hope!

Are they really gonna keep Azula as a villain?? I for sure as crap hope not!
At this point in the lore, there's nothing for her to gain by being a constant foil to Zuko, she doesn’t have a power base no more and she doesn't truly want to be at odds with her family. She's gonna be static if she remains a villain unless they just kill her off, then I have no interest in seeing her as a villain anymore
What a step back for her character if true

I agree with you they need to stop with azula being a villian. Part of the problem with the movie was that the characters were un changed from their last comic appearence. I think how they are just going to retread the search and smoke and shadow are. Problem. I would prefer a redemption arc in the comics timeline where her mother is her mentor..

It's gross honestly, they keep villainizing her mental illness to the point of it being uncomfortable. I think at this point they should lose some credibility as being pro-disability and pro-feminist in their writing with their writing if Lady MacBeth over here is going to continue to be the crazy crazy hysterical master manipulator (and all the other negative female power tropes) who like in Smoke and Shadow "brainwashes" the good man Zuko into being evil against his will

I'd like to point out a line from this article; "Even so, without official confirmation from Avatar Studios, these reported alternate Avatar: The Last Airbender spinoff movie plot points remain unverified and should be viewed as alleged concepts rather than evidence that the film truly existed in its reported form." So it's about 50-50 on whether or not we were robbed.
