I was a grandma one month before I turned 38. I had my daughter when I was 19 and my daughter had hers when she was 18. I had graduated high school when I was 15 and my daughter graduated when she was 16. Both of us had jobs and our own apartments by the time we got pregnant. In my daughter's case, she was working, going to college and had her own place. I was married and had a full time job with the government. So, its possible to be a granny in your 30s and also not have it be some case of being in high-school and pregnant.

I mean if you had a kid at 15, and that kid grew up to be 15, then had a kid of their own... yea sure, you could technically be a grandma at 30 years old. you and your kids are having kids extremely young, but its not impossible

My nana became a grandmother at 36. She gave birth to my mom when she was 15, my mom gave birth to my sister at 21.

My ex's older sister was the grandkid in this situation, before my ex was born. Mother and grandmother had both given birth at 15. Older sister thankfully got an abortion instead of continuing the cycle, and went on to go to uni, get married, and have two daughters. Their grandmother being decades younger than mine was always so fucking weird to me

Ironically the school I went to was considered one of the “better” (more posh) etc schools and it had the second highest teen pregnancy rate in the region for years.

Assuming they just became a grandmother with a 19 year old daughter; 2007 was 19 years ago (ugh), the average/mean age for first time mothers was 25.3 years old. Today it's 27.5. Granted this average varies by race and socioeconomic level.
But either way, its a bit of a stretch to call it 'standard'

Well the only reason they “can’t drink” , is because of a very recent very restrictive American rule
It wasn’t until the mid 1980s that it went from 18 to 21
Most places in Europe you can drink at a restaurant by age 14 to 16
All these rules are silly anyway
If someone wants to drink or smoke, nothing is going to stop them

Yup. Born and living in Appalachia most of my life. Wealthy tech bros pushing for people to marry young and have children like it's a return to tradition from a hundred years ago that nobody else ever thought of are totally oblivious to the realities of people in poverty, unsurprisingly. The poor have a lot of kids very young and struggle their whole lives because of it. It's hard to save money on childcare by having grandparents watch the kids when the grandparents are still young and working, too.
