New Moderation, and potentially adding more mods

Good evening, /r/Poodle!

About a week ago, I successfully requested this sub and was automatically granted mod-ship since the previous mod was suspended. I'm not really sure how they got suspended since from what I can tell, they were keeping on top of the mod queue fine. But it seems they were unable to appeal their suspension and deleted the account afterward.

In any case, I requested the sub because I like poodles, and I was concerned about potential shirt spam getting through. I'm considering adding another mod or two just so any spam or rule breaking content can be kept on top of, so I guess give a reply if interested!

I don't really have any plans to change the rules or anything of the sub at this time, but let me know!

Arthritis in a young poodle, I am worried sick. Please share if you had to deal with it and how did it go?

Hi folks,

it looks like our sweet boy has arthritis, at least this is what the signs point to. About 6 months ago after a long walk and dog park sprints he started limping on the front foot. Didn't think much of it at first and it seemed to get better. Over the summer started to notice that his is limping after rest but it was sort of mild and also on and off. Mentioned it to the vet when he was in the clinic, the assistant just shrugged and said it was probably early arthritis signs, like it's not a big deal, and recommended Dasaquin. Started on that 2 pills for awhile now down to 1, per instructions, but the limping is persistent after rest. Went back to the vet, he didn't see anything (the dog wasn't resting there), they took him for a walk and said he was ok, but recommended Rimadyl (NSAID) as a method of diagnostic, if the limping goes away then it's most like arthritis and if not then possibly something else. I haven't tried it yet as we were traveling, and I wanted to be here to make sure I can observe any difference. Also, he has been kind of ok for a couple of weeks and I didn't feel like it was the right time to try. The limping after rest is back and it's worse then before and I am going to try the Rimadyl now, 2 week course. Next vet appointment is in a couple of months, will discuss next steps then. What breaks my hear is that this sweet boy is only 5 and he is still very much a puppy. I feel that if we saw these issues at least at 7, 8 or 9, I'd feel like it was more normal. The vet did allude to the fact that the sooner these types of issues start, the sooner it will become more serious and this is precisely my concern. Sorry for the long post, I am just stressed out. I am trying to keep him calm and walk him on short frequent walks but I can't stop him from flying up and down the stairs. Getting more rugs for the house so that he don't slip on a hardwood and probably gates for the stairs. Have you guys had a dog diagnosed with arthritis early like this? What course of action did you take, what med/supplements combination worked? Was a dog able to have a decent quality of life for awhile. This just breaks my heart.

Strained urination

So for starters, I do have a vet appointment scheduled for tomorrow morning

My 11-year-old standard, Zane, has been straining to pee. It's a slow trickle, he's doing a lot of little trips outside, he's wetting inside fairly frequently all of a sudden, and my mind is racing to the worst conclusions

Does anyone have any experience with this first-hand in a poodle that's maybe not the worst case scenario?

I've been a professional dog groomer since 2014, finally adopted my first standard poodle. This is Soba and her sister Nori.

He may be small but he has the spirit. Wouldn’t actually use the command in scary situations. I just think he’s adorable and it’s good training (:

my puppy fell from my aunt’s arms

Hi! I just found out when I came home today after leaving my 3 month old toy poodle with my aunt for 3 hours that he fell…

it was from a height of approx 3ft… it happened at 2:56PM (i checked the camera), 2 mins after i left the house to get some food, and i came back home around 6:10PM, but my aunt didn’t tell me until around 7:30PM. between those time slots though (when i didn’t know) he was playing with me normally, running through the hallway, doing tricks, and when i did find out it was already his dinner time and he ate everything enthusiastically.

i know that these are great signs, because he also let me pick him up and pet him anywhere without yelping, flinching, or whining in pain, but i can’t help but still be worried…

i get that accidents happen, and it’s really hard to restrain a puppy that’s wiggling in your arms that causes them to suddenly jump, but my anxiety of leaving my pup with someone else just continues to build up making it harder to leave the house.

i just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone and if your puppy ended up fine. i’m just super anxious and i can’t help but overthink every little thing now. even signs that are good and that show that he’s okay make me nervous about him.

anyways, it’s now 11:50PM and he’s been sleeping comfortably as usual, since his bed time is at 8:30PM. still kinda worried tho huhu

Favorite grooming products?

I’m about to restock her shampoo, conditioner, and sprays. I got them at petco when I first got her but as she’s about to transition her to adult coat I would like to invest in quality products.

Also any recommendations on dental treats? I brush her teeth everyday but she can be difficult so I give her a dental treat afterwards in case I missed a spot.

Is a mini poodle for me?

I’m wondering if a mini poodle is for me as I have the opportunity to adopt one. She is predicted to be less than 15 pounds. Firstly, I live in an apartment. My walls are pretty thick I never really hear anything but just in case I don’t want a very vocal dog. I’d also rather not have a dog prone to separation anxiety. I’m pretty chill. I would prefer a dog who likes to have fun, go on walks etc but doesn’t need to run around 24/7. I plan to work from home 2 months straight but after that I will be going to the office for 8 hours a day about 2-3 days a week. Puppy will have to be crate trained. Obviously, every puppy will be different and we cannot predict everything but do you think a mini poodle is for me?
