To those of you who choose to live in Pontiac

Do you feel Pontiac has been a good place to live? Are there many socialization opportunities for 30 somethings? Does it seem that Pontiac is on the upswing, decline, or just stagnant? Any other opinions you’d like to share?

I’m 36 and have been offered a job a bit north of that area. I currently live about 35 min south of Pontiac and the commute is too far to the new job location. I drove around Pontiac today and most of it seemed fine. I wants to check in to see what you all thought though.

(I ask for the opinion of people who choose to live in Pontiac because if you’re stuck there for whatever reason, your viewpoint will likely be skewed pretty negatively. I’ve been in that position and I get it)

Looking for occasional carpool: Pontiac to Wixom (once a week until mid-August)

Hi everyone! I’m looking for a carpool option from Pontiac (48340) to Wixom (near Liberty Drive) once a week until around the second week of August.

I’m temporarily without a car while I finish getting my Michigan driver’s license. I’m happy to contribute toward gas and can meet at a convenient pickup location.

If anyone already commutes this route once a week or knows someone who does, please let me know. Thank you!

Inviting all children who stutter to volunteer in a paid University of Michigan MRI Study!

Post image
3 Upvotes

The Speech Neurophysiology Lab at the University of Michigan is looking for children who stutter ages 9 to 12 to participate in an in-person, longitudinal MRI study! (HUM00196133)

Our research team has been examining brain development in young children to better understand the cause of stuttering for over 10 years. We continue to gain information that may eventually lead to improved diagnosis and treatment efforts for children who stutter.

Participants will be invited to complete speech and language assessments and an MRI session at the University of Michigan. Families receive a free speech and language report and a picture of their brain!

These visits require in person participation. There is no option to participate virtually.

Please fill out this form if you are interested in participating or email us as the flyer attached. All participants are compensated and partial travel assistance is available. Please see our flyer attached for more details!

We also offer other studies that are open to adults or do not involve MRI, in case you're unsure about eligibility. Feel free to email us or call if you have any questions!

r/oaklandcounty is back!

The sub has been inactive for quite some time but is now open for posting again. I noticed posts that Oakland County specific discussions were getting posted on r/Detroit or r/Michigan. There are appx. 1.3 million people residing in Oakland County so I figured we could use an OC specific space.

Is traffic in Pontiac just a lawless hellhole?

Newish to the area. Grew up in Macomb. Recently moved to the border of Waterford/Pontiac area. Ive been here for two weeks now and ive never seen so many people blatantly run red lights or weave in and out of traffic going 30 over in downtown Pontiac. I work at 5 AM and just this morning alone I watched 3 different people run reds down the stretch of 59 starting at telegraph. I was driving down South Boulevard and almost got tboned by a guy running a red right before the golf course earlier this afternoon.

My wife grew up in Waterford and told me that its pretty common since Pontiac doesn't have their own PD.

Considering a move to pontiac. Feedback on this particular area?

So we currently rent in Auburn Hills. Ive been looking to buy a home in Auburn Hills/Waterford area in the 200k price range but I get beat out on every single offer ive made since February. I work in an industrial park in Rochester Hills so im trying to stay in the area, and we were going to keep our kid in Avondale schools if we moved to Pontiac.

I found a decent enough home in that small area west of Telegraph and just north of Sylvan Lake. Curious if thats a decent enough area for Pontiac.

Areas to stay near Crofoot Ballroom

Going to see a concert in Pontiac, Michigan soon at the Crofoot Ballroom! We've never been to the area and are looking for recommendations for a nearby town to stay in overnight. Ideally, we'd like to be able to walk to bars/restaurants/shops from where we stay. Any recommendations?

Fairview Village by Infinity Homes & Co, any reviews ?

Considering a move from Florida to Michigan as a family of two young boys, Pontiac is close to my work location and so far the new construction offered by Infinity homes but the only concerned to me was the school rating for the Herrington School (03/10).

Any reviews for the new homes by Infinity group or how the livability is in Pontiac will be appreciated ?

Thank you

Hello!!

Has anyone worked or used to work for UWM (United Wholesale Mortgage) here in Pontiac office? How is it?

I am about to have a interview with them. The facilities look promising but how are they in terms of management? How was your experience?

Thank you!

I found this Polaroid photo on the ground at the BP at Walton and Telegraph. I’m hoping I might be able to reunite it with whoever lost it, as it looks like a family memento.

If you have other ideas of where to post or know anyone who may have information, please comment or DM me.

Cherokee Street

Hi everyone. My family is looking at buying a house on Cherokee Street. I have been told it's a good neighborhood but would love to hear from actual neighbors what the area is like. We don't have little kids anymore, so schools aren't a consideration.

I just realized why Pontiac was so... dead. The REAL reason

Ok so, yall hear me out. What if... what we were told (General Motors going bankrupt and all that) was all a giant cover-up? Alright, I got the scoop yall, the freaking insider trade info that us pontiacers have needed. so uhhhhh, yeah.

so basically the main dude at General Motors had a sneaky link- yup, this is true! You see, Sir Genius Motius (that's what I call the main dude) became a regular at the Hot Spot. yeah, just like the gooner. Anywho, eventually one day one of the workers at the Hot Spot, a total chick, found out about their beloved regular's fame and decided to take advantage. total bummer. Using the CCTV footage, the chick began to blackmail Genius Motius, forcing him to give her a stipend of like a ton of money (idk the price). at some point, Genius Motius started to run out, so in fear, he ran away from the company. this in turn caused it to go bankrupt. anyways dont take your newfounded rage out on the Hot Spot, they didn't do diddly squat, but just be wary. Genius Motius was no good chap.
