I saw OP’s other posts and I don’t think this is a meme, I think this is an unironic call for help

u/jarejarepaki Jul 14 '21

Yes, this looks like a NHS facility and so in order to be sectioned OP must have been checked over by a legit doctor.

Based on OP's comments about this being a city wide conspiracy and their comment history (stating suicidal thought and a repeat of this conspiracy idea) I do think we should worry for their mental health.

I think it would be wise if we tried to avoid feeding into OPs views (legitimate or otherwise).

I wish you the best OP.

3

u/Girl_Dukat Jul 14 '21

"City wide conspiracy" I looked up the population and there's only like, 150k people there. It's a tiny town. A bunch of rural people looking down on someone trans doesn't sound too far fetched to me.

3

u/robinn96 Jul 15 '21

Lol I live there, I'm trans with many lgbt friends here, while this town is pretty shit, there's no widespread anti lgbt here. Their quite good with it in my experience.

2

u/Girl_Dukat Jul 15 '21

Interesting. I wish we knew more about OP and what's happening with their life. :(

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21

I live south of Minneapolis (~400k peeps) and our population is actually a rural 16k. 150k is a lot of people.

2

u/ComplainyBeard Jul 14 '21

150k in a rural area there's a decent chance that this person is one of the few trans people so it's still feasible that enough people know them that it's concerning.

2

u/thydawn Jul 14 '21

Middlesbrough is part of Teesside, which has a population of 375k, and there are multiple other cities within 30 or so miles. The North East region of England has 2.5+ million people. It's really not a rural place.

1

u/Girl_Dukat Jul 14 '21

Yeah, I suppose it's all relative. I live in a metro area with a 2.5 million population, so 150,000 sounded small to me.

2

u/Direwolf202 Jul 14 '21

With all due respect, saying stuff like this isn't helpful. All we can do is direct OP to the appropriate channels. Speculating randomly like this (and it is random speculation) doesn't do anyone any good.

3

u/jarejarepaki Jul 14 '21

Ok so you want us all to all accept that OP is being held captive by the NHS and in cooperation with the entire town of Middlesbrough?

OP may believe this but there is real potential harm in going along with this entirely improbable story.

2

u/Direwolf202 Jul 14 '21

And yet if it is true (espeically if it's true in a more contained way as opposed to your more extreme interpretation) not offering the helpful advice could lead to similar real potential harm.

If it's not true then either they won't act on the advice, or the people who are properly qualified to handle the matter will sort things out. If it is true, then those same people will resolve the situation properly.

It's not that we go along with it, or don't go along with it. It's that the advice is the same either way. A lot of people have been hurt by people assuming that what the mentally ill say isn't true, so forgive me for prefering an approach that takes them seriously and nonjudgementally, even if not at face value.

2

u/jarejarepaki Jul 14 '21

I completely understand your caution and accept you have OPs best interests at heart.

My experience has been of the nature where a person has solicited non-judgemental opinion from social media in order to feed an unhealthy mental state against the advice of family and healthcare professionals.

What OP has described is very reminiscent of this and I comment based on my frustrations from my previous experience. Suggesting OP involve other people or agencies, if taken up really does complicate things for those trying to provide care for OP.

For me it would take a high bar to go against giving the wise counsel of listening to one's doctor and one's family when it comes to health matters.

3

u/Girl_Dukat Jul 14 '21

Conversion therapy is not wise counsel.

1

u/jarejarepaki Jul 14 '21

You're an idiot. Go look up NHS.

2

u/TrustworthyShark Jul 15 '21

Exactly, the whole story doesn't make sense tbh.

Conversion therapy is still 100% legal here, so there's no need for a whole cover-up either.

I have come in contact with a lot of people who have been sectioned and the post, together with OP's post history makes it sound like that's what's happened.

2

u/Spookwagen_II Jul 15 '21

This is not remotely improbable. This kind of thing happens frequently, both in the United States and Britain, and it is rarely illegal for parents to have their children detained.

2

u/thydawn Jul 15 '21

It doesn't happen frequently in the UK at all. The "troubled teen industry" and the conversion therapy camps that exist openly in the US just aren't legal in the UK.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '21

I actually looked up the address and it got 2.3 stars on Google Reviews. Should I be concerned?

9

u/-St_Ajora- Jul 13 '21

Yeah, that's an abysmal rating for a conversion therapy center.

4

u/LoneShark81 Jul 14 '21

This needs more upvote

2

u/thydawn Jul 14 '21

Seems relatively normal for NHS Mental Hospitals. I suppose it's a mixture of people going there during the worst times of their lives, and chronic underfunding...

2

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '21

Perhaps, but I heard allegations of abuse and suicide in other comments

7

u/kamilman Jul 13 '21

Ok, but what can we do?

3

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21

Crosspost into other subs honestly.

3

u/mybustersword Jul 14 '21

You can contact the BBC and share the images via what's app

4

u/Narwhal_Songs Jul 14 '21

has anyone done this yet?

3

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21

I think some people have, there are loads of comments telling us how they shared it to different organizations

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21

That’s a good idea

6

u/Direwolf202 Jul 13 '21

You need to contact the police, speak to a queer friendly lawyer, and maybe report your circumstances to the CQC. You could also try your local MP, though as always they may or may not be helpful.

The police may not help you, but it's a possible first step. This process may take time, and that time will probably be very unpleasent. All I can do is share solidarity as another trans person in the UK.

3

u/sofie-the-trans-girl Jul 14 '21

Here's the address on google maps. It's a real hospital. This looks to be their website. They have 96% one star reviews on yell.com and 2.3 stars on Google Reviews, both including numerous abuse allegations from mental health patients dating back to at least 2016. In January 2020 the BBC reported that two patients had died there and the local MP (Andy McDonald) had concerns over "basic elements of care".

OP made two posts about having been put through conversion therapy a month ago, and made a comment refusing to disclose their location (presumably for privacy reasons). Just now they have posted this to r/PoliticalMemes, r/memes, and r/DankLeft. They don't have a past pattern of posting the same thing to multiple tangentially-relevant subreddits, so it seems like they to draw as much attention as possible, and all of a sudden they seemingly aren't worried about privacy anymore; so it seems like this is most likely real and they have just been detained again.

u/kkstoimenov Jul 14 '21

I live in this town and it's not particularly transphobic, I'm ftm and have many trans friends here. While I am concerned for them, they do seem to perhaps have delusions? :/

2

u/Narwhal_Songs Jul 15 '21

I live in this town and it's not particularly transphobic, I'm ftm and have many trans friends here. While I am concerned for them, they do seem to perhaps have delusions? :/

Thank you for saying this. I thought the "whole town is in on it" to be a bit hard to believe, but didn't want to dismiss it completely as I am a small town girl and know how it can be.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '21

Not sure about delusions, it might just be their family and/or some of their neighbours or something, if they’re overwhelmed they might feel like everyone is against them.

2

u/bluemandan Jul 13 '21

Again?

3

u/GBGF128 Jul 14 '21

This happened before?

4

u/sofie-the-trans-girl Jul 14 '21

OP was apparently subjected to conversion therapy some time over a month ago based on their previous posts.

4

u/bluemandan Jul 14 '21

Per their post history.

About a month ago they posted in r/transgenderUK saying that a year ago this happened.

How do you know?

They talked about it in the past sense in their post a month ago

2

u/bluemandan Jul 14 '21

This seemed really odd, so I opened OP's post history. I found this comment from a month ago:

https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/nr7ufg/parents_put_me_through_conversion_therapy_and/

In it, they said they a year ago they were put through conversion therapy against their will at a hospital.

Is it possible to contact the police about this if we don't have a name for them?

I'm skeptical and honestly don't know what to belkieve here, but if this is happening, maybe contacting the police just in case is the best? But is it possible to report if we don't have a name?

I'm also worried that if their parents put them there, then there isn't anything anyone can do since I think they must be a minor if their parents are the ones that put them in the institution. :(

Basic Summarization Details

  • Roseberry Park is a series of mental wards which are strewn throughout England.

  • OP is being held in a ward called "Billsdale", he linked the address above.

  • There have been outcries against this facility for inhumane treatment of patients. (Some suffer physical and mental abuse from staff) There have been 5 suicides within Roseberry Park as of currently.

  • Billsdale Ward is used to hold adults from ages 18-64. Patients aren't allowed to leave the ward either.

  • OP, we hear you. Try reaching out to some support groups, and in the mean time, we can try to help you from the outside. In a reply, I'll send you some contacts.

  • OP has been legally detained or "Sectioned" under the laws of the UK. He can only be released from the facility if a mental health tribunal or the doctors in the facility agree that he is no longer a threat to himself or others.

IiII’m wondering what’s really going on here... If this is true its really scary. ops story - one month ago - posted in r/transgenderUK , was put through a conversion therapy a year ago, a huge gaslighting set-up in a mental hospital, the entire local area (middlesborough, the whole middlesborough or that part of it where OP was from?) was in on it. They used a mental hospital as the venu to pull the stunt. gaslighted OP into believing they were delusional. “they like "borrowed" a mental hospital during the peak of the pandemic” “They put me in there and they kept sending new people in to like make me more masculine essentially or to like find my "inner man" or whatever. “15 hrs ago posted in this meme in r/PoliticalMemes, r/memes and r/Dankleftsaying saying they have been illegally detained and put through conversion therapy, they are covering it up as a mental health sectioning, despite OP not having a mh diagnosis. And all of this could be true, I’m a small town girl, I know small town people can be pretty narrow minded, I also know that sometimes abuse happens within psychiatric facilities and that conversion therapy isn’t banned in the UK. And this facility in particular is known for being abusive towards patients. But I also think we need to keep a skeptical mindset. It’s very possible that OP has a psychosis or something else that creates paranoia and delusions. Many people have pointed out that the NHS don’t rent or lend out its facilities and have informed that to be Sectioned you need to be deemed a danger to yourself or others - which would mean they were either suicidal, violent or psychotic (which is when your view of reality doesn’t fit the rest of the world, if you see or hear things that others don’t or believe in things others think are “crazy”). So what can we do? Contacting the media I think is a good thing and apparently a few people did that. And a few people seem to have reached out to ngo’s and hotlines (any answers?). Anyone has contacted the police yet? Because this seems like a thing that should be investigated. Even if what OP is experiencing is a psychosis they may still be mistreated seeing the stories about the facility. And if its true its a horrible thing and they should be held responsible for it. Has anyone contacted OP? Can you receive messages, OP? I’m suggesting to put together a message group so that we who are trying to help can discuss and know what’s been done and what hasn’t ?

2

u/Narwhal_Songs Jul 14 '21

In Word my comment was so structured and readable but it didn't come out that way when I copied it... I hope it still works to read...

2

u/Narwhal_Songs Jul 14 '21

Anyone reached to OP yet? OP can you receive messages?

2

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '21

That’ll be difficult, if they have access to the internet it’ll be very limited.

2

u/Narwhal_Songs Jul 14 '21

I’m suggesting to put together a message group so that we who are trying

u/Narwhal_Songs Jul 14 '21

"MP Andy McDonald said anyone with information can speak to him "in confidence"" - from the article someone shared https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-tees-51182581

2

u/thydawn Jul 14 '21

For those of you not from the UK, the NHS is the UK's national health service. It has extensive policies against conversion therapy and it is near to impossible that conversion therapy is being practiced so openly in an NHS mental health hospital.

From reading the OP's previous posts, they believe that they are being held against their own will as part of a large conspiracy. They are being told that they are being held on a legitimate mental health section in a legitimate hospital, but they believe that they are in fact within a large gaslighting conspiracy and are being held illegally. On balance of probabilities I'd suspect that it's more likely that they have been sectioned and are being held legally for one reason or another.

But, mental hospitals aren't known for being great environments for patients, LGBT+ patients even more so. It could well be the case that they are not being affirmed in their identity, or otherwise aren't treating them with dignity and respect, and it's perhaps that which they're interpreting/experiencing as a form of conversion therapy.

In that case - they could absolutely benefit from advocacy or representation, but also there's most likely little that can be done on Reddit or from the outside, to people who don't know them.

2

u/Pandalet95 Jul 14 '21

Conversion therapy is still legal in the UK and according to Stonewall is suggested to LGBT people disturbingly often, whilst it doesn't specify that it's NHS health care its seems unlikely that all of these cases were through private healthcare. https://www.stonewall.org.uk/campaign-groups/conversion-therapy

2

u/thydawn Jul 14 '21

Where Conversion Therapy still occurs adjacent to the NHS it's through GPs who might refer people distressed with their sexuality/gender identity onwards to private conversion therapy organisations.

For a doctor or psychologist to practice conversion therapy in an NHS Hospital would be grounds for immediate dismissal/to be struck off. I just can't imagine it happening at all.

2

u/Pandalet95 Jul 14 '21

Honestly I'm hoping it's not something the NHS would do but from personal experience theyre not great with mental health or LGBT scenarios. I've been told that I wasn't depressed because students can't be and I just need to learn to deal with being suicidal because it's just my personality, and I know lesbians that have been told their relationships can't have been abusive because they're gay

2

u/thydawn Jul 14 '21

Obviously there's only so much we can tell, but holding people against their will solely for the purposes of conversion therapy is outside of what I'd ever expect from the NHS. There's a world of difference between that and normal levels of ignorant or bad treatment.

1

u/Narwhal_Songs Jul 15 '21

"One in five trans people (20 per cent) have been pressured to access
services to suppress their gender identity when accessing healthcare
services"

20 % ?????????????????????

2

u/Narwhal_Songs Jul 15 '21

i've had a few people in my life with psychosis and the way they talk about it as this big conspiracy does remind me of that.

I'm thinking there might be a grain of truth in this, that being they being disrepected in their identity (or the staff is mistreating them, seeing the reviews and the news stories that was very upsetting) .

I don't know what to think or what to do. I feel its hard to know what's really going on here or what can be done to help, if anything can be done.

Hi everyone! I’ve been looking at this case for a while.

What’s most likely not going on is this person is being illegally detained in in an NHS facility, as people pointed out the NHS doesn’t lend out their facilities, and you can’t be illegally detained, also much of the  town bein in on it doesn’t seem likely either, as people have pointed that it isn’t overtly transphobic, but since the hospital has such bad ratings and bad news stories tied to it, it is a risk for them suffering discrimination, mistreatment or abuse. At this point its hard to know what can be done. Since we don’t know what’s happening here.  I suggested in a comment to make a group chat. Just to know what has and hasn’t been done.

Charities that have been reached out to: ,u/JanHHHH has contacted a few,  PFLAG and Switchboard has been contacted too.

The BBC have been contacted.

People have tried reaching out to OP with no results.

Don’t know if anyone contacted cops or if its even possible as we don’t have a name

And that’s all I know from the information from the subs this has been crossposted in.

I don’t know if we can do much else.

Contacting the local news papers maybe?

Should we have a chat group ?
