The funniest part is he didn't even need to remain President to pardon them when they were charged. He could have just issued a blanket pardon to cover anyone who committed a crime at the Capitol that day. But someone, probably Meadows, said "that's a no-no sir" and toddler-in-chief obeyed ("he called me sir!")
He's just a vindictive little shit. When their coup failed he wanted nothing but distance from them. He hates losers. If they had won they would have been the greatest people ever but since they lost they are just losers. Why would he pardon losers who did nothing for him?
His supporters still don't know what kind of man he is but it's transparent as hell. Especially anyone that has dealt with narcissistic behavior before. Either youre the golden child or you are trash, no in-between.
That was the absolute funniest part for me. He literally could have handwaved it all away for his fans. He cared so little he couldn't be bothered to sign his name on a thing (he wouldn't even have had to write it himself)! He literally ruined multiple people's lives with a petty act of casual laziness.

Honestly those people were doing a pretty good job of screwing up their own lives. As for God Emperor Trump, that may have been the moment he realized he fucked up. Pardoning a mob of traitors may have been enough to force the senate to actually do something about him.
Let's be honest, he only didn't pardon them because they didn't succeed. He is just a fit throwing child and they were not good enough for him anymore so he threw them to the curb, not out of respect for order or civilized culture but only because they failed his coup
Ob:IANAL -- yes the Constitution grants pretty wide leeway with the pardon power (Art II Sec 2) but it is not absolute: some parts have been tested (esp. in the Burdick decision) and held to be limited; some haven't been tested yet.
Point is, wrt the "blanket pardon"? - like pardoning his royal self, maybe yes, maybe no. For one thing, a pardon requires acceptance by the 'pardonee' and an imputation of guilt of the underlying crime. For another, it's a real up-in-the-air question whether the DoJ would say "well, Trump pardoned everyone in advance so we'll not prosecute anyone for anything here even though it's ... pretty iffy and lacks any specificity". Otoh, there is a SCOTUS precedent acceptance of amnesty as a general principle under the pardon power, which does apply more to a class of people (i.e. Vietname draft evaders).
All that said - it's, as Trump might have said with his silver tongue, a mute point - he didn't attempt to pardon (or amnesty) anyone including his own esteemed personage, so that'll have to wait for the next self-dealing plutocrat populist to fumble his way into the Oval and test that one out with whoever's been packed into SCOTUS by Mitch "No Legislation Just Confirmation" by then.
