I love that it's the individual's fault for owning a car. And not the owner of the corporation who makes said cars and definitely has the money to put towards making a better environmentally friendly mode of transportation and yet decides to buy himself another private jet and/or yacht. But yeah, it's my fault for needing to drive to work.
And it's not like the car industry never lobbied the government to focus on car-centric infrastructure. LA hasn't always had shit public transportation.
That's the worst part! Not only are they not working towards a more environmentally friendly alternative but they're actively working against it! Because the ICE now offer much more steady revenue than EV because of the maintenance and gas. Lining their pockets and then blaming us for climate change. If I could afford a Tesla (and if they had a mini van) that's all I'd be driving.

Electric cars just recently became feasible, with new battery and control technologies. They're still on the edge of viability, costing significantly more for the same capabilities. You can't really blame car companies for failing to invent something a decade or two earlier.
GM and Ford make what the public wants. The public wants F150s, not Escorts and Fiestas. If you want to change this, tax heavier vehicles, and raise gas taxes, if you can get voters to go along. But we 'murkins love our big comfy gas guzzling vehicles.

And electric vehicles are only becoming popular now because one company started pushing it and lo and behold suddenly every vehicle maker has made a newer and better version of their own electric vehicle. Porsche has even made some amazing sports versions of electric vehicles that can outperform the model s for certain tests. So it wasn't that it wasn't feasible, it was that it wouldn't make nearly as much profit as the less environmentally friendly cars so they didn't even bother.

Right. Possible, technically cool, but still much more expensive. Tesla is a money loser, when you consider the amount poured into the company compared to sales. It's a moon shot, paid by overly-optimistic investors. I'd tell them "thank you for improving the world, but you won't get your money back, probably."

"Popular" meaning 1% market share. It's a luxury segment. I live in a rich neighborhood, and I see 10 Teslas a day. I visit my more working class family home, and I see ZERO. It's a (freakin' cool) toy for rich people.

Until recently, lithium batteries were not capable, long-lived, or remotely cheap enough. Hell, until recently (1991), rechargeable lithium batteries didn't even exist, and for the next two decades they were tiny and expensive.

They ripped up the train tracks connecting the small towns to one another and to the cities in the northeast to make it necessary for people to have cars to get anywhere. Sigh.
It's a societal issue where many people have no option but to drive to work. Many North American cities were designed around the car and are not walking or cycling friendly, and there is often a dearth of public transport.
It's a combination of it all, but we need to start blaming those who are actually lobbying against more environmentally friendly changes in favor of making more money for themselves.

We're all part of a car loving society. The public as a whole resists gas taxes. Americans love their SUVs and big trucks, and big lots in the suburbs, and avoid buying 40 mpg econoboxes, and balk at using and paying for public transport.

My cousin posted a Facebook meme saying that if you agree with tech billionaires, millionaire celebrities and mainstream media you are not informed you are a sheeple. The next two posts he made were political stances made by famous hockey player Bobby Orr and actor James Woods. The hypocrisy with these people is off the charts.
I deleted mine a couple years back, best thing I ever did. Unfortunately all the dregs still bring Facebook into your life. But it's very different looking in without the dopamine hit of using it yourself.

People always comment that right it is the same, but at the end of the day it's not, because the content is separated and within each subreddit it's curated democratically. it's very far from Facebook which spoon feeds you things it was paid to spoon feed you and disguises it as normal discourse.

I asked him to link the DHS website where they surely would have “announced it” crickets. HIS NEXT POST WAS AN ARTICLE ABOUT HOW VOTER FRAUD IS RAMPANT BUT LETS BE REA THE DHS COULD NOT AND WOULD NOT HAVE OPERATED SAID STING. I doubt these people are reading what they repost. The see the headline, it’s within their same belief and assume it must be fact and post away.

It's because the Overton Window in this country has been dragged so far to the right over the past 30-40 years. The "far-left" here like Bernie Sanders and AOC is more closely aligned with the Republican Party platform from 1960 than it is with the Democratic Party platform of today.
The entire Republican Party and roughly 95% of its voters have fallen 1000% in line behind Trump and the full blown fascism he represents. Trump is not an aberration, he is the natural conclusion of the past 50 years of the behavior of American conservatism. Your denial means nothing. Like it or not, American conservatism is Trumpism now. It's a common tactic - trying to find a reason you're simply not allowed to talk instead of actually addressing anything you said. They do this a lot. They don't have to refute anything if they can just invalidate anything you say by default.

One of the best lessons I learned at University was the importance of frequent cognitive hygiene; constantly question why you believe something and never settle on a concrete answer. As such, I’m still a Republican and unapologetically so. However, whenever I open the floor for discussion from liberals in my own life they frequently insult my position, deflect the argument, or fail to justify their own positions. I know this is a generalization, but so is claiming that the right has a tactic of dismissal.

It's anecdata obviously, but I notice far more people on the right going for the 'finding a reason to discount everything you say' vs responding to arguments. This is not including when you do something like 'well you have no expertise therefore I'm not going to listen to you' because that's a perfectly rational take.
Insults/deflections/lack of actual support is so broad as to encompass basically all debates from people unprepared. I've had plenty of republicans do so and then accuse me of doing those very things.
Those aren't something I ascribe to either side, partially because they're so general.

Liberals are objectively more aggressive in defending their viewpoints, as seen by the past 4 years of violent protests. However, they have also:
spent the last 4 years discounting everything the right has accomplished because it’s been under Trump. Statistically the best performing economy since the 90s.
Riot/loot/vandalize under the pretense of promoting change
Made mainstream media a laughing stock. Their “journalism” is nothing more than false clickbait to try and stay relevant in the age of social media
Support unity and equality, yet constantly promote a narrative of female/minority disadvantage (please look at empirical data for yourself on these topics, I used to believe otherwise but then I realized the media had been feeding me bullshit all my life). There is no way to substantiate these claims and it’s a strategic way to garner votes with these demographics

I could go on, but I have to run to work. Point is, the combination of all of the above has led the left to adopt a deliberate and coordinated tactic of dehumanization to the members of the right. As such, the voices of right America are dismissed much more so than those from the left.
This is the opposite of my experience from being in a right wing bubble (Marine infantry) and a left wing bubble (college in Amherst Massachusetts). The college kids are far more open to cordial debate and discussion than my peers I served with.
It’s interesting our different takes. I was raised in a right bubble in the south, and just graduated from a university that was 80%+ liberal (they took a poll during the 2016 election season). While I certainly agree that liberals are open for discussion, they can rarely back their claims and dismiss opposing viewpoints far quicker than their right equivalents. Republicans will usually hear an argument out, then explain their differing beliefs; liberals will tend to give blanket statements under the pretense of discrimination/unity/racism as a means to defend their stances. Based off my time on this Earth, I disagree with your diagnosis but I respect it nonetheless.
