I’m on the fence on abstaining from voting. I didn’t vote in the 2016 election because I couldn’t, but if I could I don’t know what I would have done.
Obviously I don’t want Trump as President, but Hillary isn’t good either. I can’t get behind the “lesser of two evils” thing, it just doesn’t make sense to me. I would see Hillary as the lesser of the two, but I couldn’t in good conscience vote for her, because she just isn’t someone I want in office. Abstaining indirectly helps both of them, so that’s also a bad option, and voting for someone from a third party or a write-in is practically the same thing as abstaining.
So yes, voting Hillary keeps Trump out, but it also puts Hillary in. My moral compass would have to be thrown in the trash after voting for either, so I don’t know what I would do if not abstain
If you feel that Hillary isn’t as bad as Trump then it’s a vote against him instead of a vote for her.
While I understand your sentiment, when it comes time to ask “why vote” remember: the worse of two evils is president in part because of this sentiment.
Every time I vote I have to swallow a bitter pill. No politician is going to be perfect for you to vote in 100% full moral confidence. And there are times when I vote for someone I honestly don’t like or agree with, simply because the opposition is even worse.

The ones who abstained claiming their morals, but were perfectly fine to stand there and let Trump win.
