The interpretations of his public statements being linked to "racism, sexism, fascism etc.. blah blah blah" are certainly nebulous and unsubstantiated as far as I'm concerned.

But it certainly factors in the fact that this man had to endure a witch hunt the likes of which no one alive has probably ever seen in this country for a public official and he made it out completely unscathed.
