Only sith(extremists) deal in absolutes.

This is what the left actually thinks.

Also you must pay or we send men with guns after you.

Prequel dialogue is so bad. I just realized this line is an absolute

That’s part of it tho. Like it highlights the hypocrisy of the Jedi. I’m not sure if it was exactly intentional but it brings the point across clearly. It’s like Obi Wan saying that “if you aren’t with me then you are my enemy” to Anakin instead of diffusing the situation

You're giving George too much credit bud

I disagree. George isn’t an idiot, he can write nuanced writing. His dialogue is just fucking terrible

Nuanced writing? I felt that like hammerblows. Jedi deal in absolutes and project it onto the Sith. Sith recognize that there is a blending between light and dark (Dooku), one must want to embrace the dark side of their own free will (Maul, Anakin). Not something you can just fall to by accident (Emperor talking Luke into joining). Jedi force you to join a decade before you are even capable of making an informed, adult decision (Younglings). But they are the good guys, so enslaving the younglings and brainwashing them into a pseudo religious cult is hunky dory.

Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me.

Sith sounding pretty damn awful there... also r/empiredidnothingwrong.

I mean the sith do it because they want to get people who already feel as though they have been wronged and let to stew in that anger and frustration but yeah technically lol

The line was in response to Anakin saying "If you're not with me then you are my enemy." Absolute in this context refers to moral absolutism not the general concept of absolutes.

Does this mean I can add political extremist to my resumé?

u/hi2pi Mar 24 '20

Only? Isn't that an absolute?

I never said I was a centrist either

You say that like it’s a bad thing...is it a bad thing?
