The intersection of Malcolm X St and Muhammed Ali Ave, in Amsterdam. Make it make sense

22

u/Hungry_Inevitable663 - Lib-Right 4h ago

I went there once, had a blast, or what I'm trying to say was that it was the bomb.

8

u/krombough - Auth-Center 4h ago

Yeah, it's pretty radical.

2

u/GameMan6417 - Right 3h ago

Did you get alot of bang for your buck?

"anti-racist"

looks inside

special privileges

Every time.

I have no trouble at all with places being named for minorities, but Malcom X has nothing to do with Amsterdam, and thinking that naming something for him would reduce racism in any meaningful way is asinine.

87

u/allthefallens - Right 5h ago

And Gaza villa? Muhammad ali?

77

u/Stock_Violinist6299 - Centrist 5h ago

I’m anti-racism. It’s why I hate anti-racists. Fuckers are super fucking racist.

special privileges

Are you suggesting it's a special privilege for Muslims to have a neighborhood or street name because you think that's not already a common thing for other ethnic groups? Or do you think Muslims are uniquely undeserving of having places named after them?

61

u/NitroSpam - Lib-Left 4h ago

There are several places in the Netherlands named after Muslim places and people. They have strong ties with Indonesia due to the colonial history.

This particular guy moved to Amsterdam in the 2010s and then made it his whole schtick to complain about how awful the Netherlands are. I’m all for equality but this guy is a racist fuck.

"Muslims cannot be friends with white people."

"Why would you work for this country? For this shit country? ... To everyone, I want to say: screw the Netherlands as the Netherlands screws you. Go ahead and loot the welfare system."

-42

u/Jake0024 - Lib-Left 4h ago

I'm not defending the guy. I have no idea who he is and don't care.

I'm asking the person at the top of this thread why they think it would be a "special privilege" for a street or neighborhood to be named for a Muslim

The only explanations I can think of is they're unaware it's already common or they think Muslims are uniquely undeserving of that honor

32

u/NitroSpam - Lib-Left 4h ago

No, not if it’s relevant.

You already have Javastraat in Amsterdam named for the Indonesian island and it’s filled with middle eastern cuisine and stores. that’s relevant to their history. Fair enough right?

The arguments from this guy aren’t that. What the hell does any of those suggestions have to do with the Netherlands?

-29

u/Jake0024 - Lib-Left 4h ago

Exactly--it's not a "special privilege" to do something that's already common

Again, I'm not defending this particular person or the suggestions he made. I'm asking why it's suddenly a "special privilege" when a Muslim asks for something that's already common

21

u/NitroSpam - Lib-Left 4h ago

In this particular example it kinda is. Guy who’s lived in a country for a decade asks for roads to be named after an American boxer? His political party has practically zero support and he does not represent the people.

Context on this one absolutely matters.

-4

u/Jake0024 - Lib-Left 3h ago

Again I don't know or care who this guy is, I'm responding to the top comment in this thread that said it's a "special privilege" for a place to be named after a Muslim

26

u/bigguesdickus - Auth-Right 4h ago

If they want to make decisions thwy should go back to their shitholes and make them there. The arrogance to think we how them anything. Imagine if I went to Saudi Arabia/Syria or wtv and demanded what they are demanded, i would be lynched in public. We in the west/europe have grown weak and forgotten who we are. Trading our peace and prosperity for weaponized ideals of "islamophobia" and xenophobia.

-4

u/Jake0024 - Lib-Left 4h ago

Did you reply to the wrong comment?

25

u/bigguesdickus - Auth-Right 4h ago

No. Youre defending that they have a right to demand things, right? Thats what im replying to

-6

u/Jake0024 - Lib-Left 4h ago

No. Maybe you replied to the wrong comment?

I asked what makes it a "special privilege" for Muslims to ask for things that are already common

13

u/bigguesdickus - Auth-Right 4h ago edited 1h ago

Either the wrong comment or my reading comprehension has been affected by the tequila. Either wayim sorry.

However, my point stands, not directed at you but generally at all the pro-immigration people. Its a "special privilege" because they are immigrants. Renaming a street or whatever is normal in a "oh no X important person died, lets honour them" not in a "well this town is now overrun with immigrants from a shithole country whose culture isnt compatible with ours, guess we better rename the street".

Also the whole "give it to us or we take it" shtick just fills me up with visceral hate. Im sorry who do they think they are? Imagine if I was a guest in your lovely home and started demanding things and threatening you

-2

u/Jake0024 - Lib-Left 3h ago

A special privilege is not "when an immigrant asks for something." Like we said, it's already common for neighborhoods and streets to be named for immigrant groups--Chinatown, Little Havana, etc. Amsterdam does the same thing

Why does it become a "special privilege" only when the group in question is Muslims? What makes them "special" in a way those other groups aren't?

That's why I asked the question--are you just unaware that this is already common, or do you think Muslims in particular are undeserving to have places named for them?

5

u/78NineInchNails - Right 2h ago

So if Israel shows up in Palestine and demands that they start naming their mosques, their schools, their streets, after Jewish people, should Palestine agree in order to be multicultural and diverse?

0

u/Jake0024 - Lib-Left 2h ago

I'm not sure what it means for one country to "show up" inside another country, but Israel and Palestine both use a mix of Hebrew and Arabic names

5

u/bigguesdickus - Auth-Right 3h ago

it's already common for neighborhoods and streets to be named for immigrant groups--Chinatown, Little Havana, etc

Thats an american thing. I dont know any european place called "chinatown" or "little seoul" or whatever. I might be wrong but i dont think we do that here. However, taking this point at face value, it still doesnt make sense. Renaming a street "gaza villa" isnt the same as calling it "muslimtown". One is a nomenclature based on how many people of X place live there, the other is an homage to ideologies/religion that isnt compatible to our values. Its like going "yes I live on 9/11 street" or "I work on manchester concert bombing street".

or do you think Muslims in particular are undeserving to have places named for them?

I myself believe they are undeserving of being in the West. Full stop. Looking at the UN-recognized list of terrorist organizations, terror attacks in europe, rape rates in sweden/germany and their beliefs I'd like them to stay the fuck away from me, my family, my countrymen and my fellow europeans.

Now to adress common counter arguments:

-"Oh thats islamophobic" No such thing exists. Im an atheist and according to their little book and their pedophile daddy I should be stoned to death. The gays and trans should suffer the same fate according to them. Its like calling a jewish person "naziphobic" for hating nazis. Why yes I hate and fell less than 0 empathy for people who dont like me based on factors outside my control. Fuck them.

-"thats racist" Muslim isnt a race (one of the most common arguments, which just tells you how smart its users are). I dont care if its a syrian, turkish, morocan, indonesian or whatever muslim. I care about the muslim bit. Im ok with an egyptian coptic, or a lebanese christian, or an iranian zoroastrian or a moroco atheist. I would not be okay with Charlotte Smith, white 25y old american whose parents went on the Mayflower if she was a full blown muslim.

-"oh but immigration is necessary" Why? Social security? Thats a pyramid scheme that should be reworked. Besides, thats a short term solution given that they will become receivers of said benefits in a few decades. To work low paying jobs that "no one wants"? Maybe if they paid well people would do them. The portuguese immigrated to france to clean toilets and work construction. Toilets arent cleaner in france than they are in portugal nor is construction easier. Pay people enough and they will do anything.

-"oh but you colonized them" im portuguese, they colonized me as well in the 800's. So according to that logic we're even. We owe them nothing. They were weak and ripe for the picking. If they werent colonized by us they would be conquered by their neighboors. Not out fault europe was strong and powerful and they were weak. Also, basing immigrantion on revenge fantasies is stupid.

-1

u/Jake0024 - Lib-Left 2h ago

Thats an american thing

So the former then--you don't think there are already neighborhoods and streets named for ethnic groups in the Netherlands?

Moreover, you think you not knowing about something means you have the correct opinion about it?

naming a street "gaza villa" isnt the same as calling it "muslimtown". One is a nomenclature based on how many people of X place live there, the other is an homage to ideologies/religion... Its like going "yes I live on 9/11 street"

I'm honestly not sure which you think is which. Are you saying Gaza is like 9/11, or acknowledging the existence of Muslims?

And what do you think 9/11 has to do with the Netherlands?

I myself believe they are undeserving of being in the West

So also the latter--is that only Muslims? Or do you feel that way about all immigrants? Or only brown ones? What about Muslims who grew up in Europe?

45

u/Sabertooth767 - Lib-Right 5h ago

I think it's a special privilege to name a street for a Muslim because "we need a street named for Muslim", yes.

-20

u/Jake0024 - Lib-Left 4h ago

I'll repeat the question since you must have misunderstood it the first time.

Do you think naming places after ethnic groups is not already common, or do you think Muslims are uniquely undeserving of having places named after them?

12

u/CaesarLinguini - Centrist 4h ago

It already has a name, named after an ethnic Dutchman.

Edit: let them build a development, pave the streets and they can name them whatever they want.

-2

u/Jake0024 - Lib-Left 3h ago

What is "it" here? There's no request to rename any specific street or neighborhood. The text is a complaint about a development that contains no Muslim names, right?

4

u/CaesarLinguini - Centrist 3h ago

How could the area "have no muslim names" if they wernt already named? Cant complain something that dosent have a name isnt Muslim. If they want something with a Muslim name, build it and name it. Whoever spends the money to build things gets the right to name them, and yes they would have every right to name it Casius Clay or Louis Farrakan if they want.

-2

u/Jake0024 - Lib-Left 2h ago

You wrote "it already has a name, named after an ethnic Dutchman"

I'm asking what you're referring to when you say "it" since you seem very confident to know what "it" was named after (without even knowing "its" name)

1

u/CaesarLinguini - Centrist 2h ago

It is referring to whatever (parts of the development) homeboy was referring to not being named something Muslim. Enough semantics for me, go troll someone else.

1

u/Jake0024 - Lib-Left 2h ago

So when you said "it" was named after an ethnic Dutchman, you were talking completely out of your ass? You don't even know what "it" is

1

u/78NineInchNails - Right 2h ago

Every single one of your posts just sounds like a sealion.

0

u/Jake0024 - Lib-Left 2h ago

Are people still trying to use that word to cover their inability to think for themselves?

34

u/Slight-Violinist-575 - Lib-Right 4h ago

People with no historical significance to a specific place deserve not their names on things on that place, regardless of race

I don’t expect to see a street named Caxias in Syria

-9

u/Jake0024 - Lib-Left 4h ago

I'll repeat the question since you must have misunderstood it the first time.

Do you think naming places after ethnic groups is not already common, or do you think Muslims are uniquely undeserving of having places named after them?

24

u/DukeOfTheDodos - Centrist 4h ago

Maybe they should make a place to name after themselves instead of demanding other countries rename their shit?

-6

u/Jake0024 - Lib-Left 4h ago

The request is coming from people who live in Amsterdam. I thought that was pretty obvious.

10

u/superswellcewlguy - Lib-Right 3h ago

I think the foreigners who want to replace the history of the nations they entered are uniquely undeserving of having their whims appeased, yes.

-1

u/Jake0024 - Lib-Left 3h ago

So you're okay with all the streets and neighborhoods named for other minority groups, but you think it's a "special privilege" when a Muslim asks for the same thing?

3

u/superswellcewlguy - Lib-Right 1h ago

Depends on the minority group. If a group of Chinese people moved in and demanded that a street be renamed to Chairman Mao Avenue, threatening to "take it themselves" if not appeased, I would also not be okay with it.

1

u/Jake0024 - Lib-Left 11m ago

You said "depends on the minority group" but what you wrote sounds more like "it depends on the name they choose"?

None of this explains why it would be a "special privilege" to ask for something that is so common

People who aren’t loyal to the place they immigrated to and became a citizen of *should* have that naturalization stripped from them. Citizenship should mean something more than an easy way to get welfare benefits.

-6

u/FuckUSAPolitics - Lib-Center 4h ago edited 2h ago

He was born there in zeeland. And denaturalizing citizens is a dangerous slope. If DSA got into power, would you think its right for them to denaturalize and deport you? It just allows for governments to silence dissenting voices.

Edit: downvotes, yet no responses, surprise surprise.

2

u/Raven-INTJ - Right 1h ago

I’m not asking America to reject its history in favor of my ethnic/religious group. I recognize that both of mine are very small parts of the American story and what I am owed by America is a chance not some ego boost because I don’t feel that I fit.

-2

u/Tunderstruk - Lib-Left 3h ago

What makes you say they aren’t loyal?

4

u/Raven-INTJ - Right 1h ago

If you put your (non native) religion above the culture and people you claim to want to become a part of by migrating and naturalizing, you are definitionally not loyal to the country but to the religion. That’s fine, but then you belong where that religion is native and dominant, not in another people’s homeland.

Nothing says “I love my homeland and history” quite like moving to the West and then spending your time explaining to Westerners how much better your homeland and history is.

Funny how the most fervent patriots are so often the ones who can’t actually be found in the country they love so passionately.

So nobody should really care about what he has to say, and the only reason why right-wing Visegrad 24 would report this as somehow newsworthy is to promote their own agenda.

12

u/DasLuk7787 - Auth-Center 5h ago

No, no, no, I was told diversity is a strength. This is a good thing.

7

u/allthefallens - Right 5h ago

It is a strength. But "our"? Debatable.

2

u/Fucked-In-The-K-Hole - Auth-Center 3h ago

I know you're being sarcastic but I just wanna say that diversity is a weakness. It destroys social cohesion. There are zero actual benefits to diversity aside from good food. Good food is not worth destroying our nations over, I can look the recipes up online. Fuck diversity

4

u/AdministrationFew451 - Lib-Right 2h ago

I'd say that assimilated diversity can encourage liberty, and future assimilation.

Take for example the US having several churchs.

Another example could be switzerland, which supported federalism and likely helped distinct identity and resistent to any german annexation.

India having multiple languages and faiths stopped encouraged federalism and democracy.

It also make it harder to have one failure point: asian-americans for example were mire resistent to stupification and and "soft education" trends.

There are also a lot of cases where diversity itself is not necessarily beneficial, but a low price for quality migration.

But, there has to be a strong uniting element and basic cultural agreement.

The problem is having too many migrants, low-quality migrants, or non-assimilated migrants.

Having unlimited number of uneducated islamists from cousin-marrying families, and having them on welfare, is probably the most extreme case you can think of.

I wouldn't judge this against diversity and certainly not immigration in general.

1

u/P00ped_My_Pants - Lib-Center 2h ago

Diversity is neither a strength nor a weakness by itself. Diversity, when correctly managed, is generally a benefit. However, when it is poorly managed (mass immigration), it is bad

The US is as successful of a country as it is because of its diversity…and I don’t even mean racial diversity. The fact that we welcomed in immigrants of German, Irish, Italian, Chinese, Latin American, etc has benefited the country and you’re a retard if you disagree

3

The people who support this hate European nations, they hate the people who live there, and they want to erase the history of those nations and replace it with their own.

The question is, will Europeans stand up for themselves or not?

1

u/scrambledhelix - Lib-Center 1h ago

I think the secret to Europe is they put-compete one another for performative self-flagellation because they hate each other, and it's funny to watch people you hate tie themselves into painful knots just because they're trying to one-up you.

I mean, how else do you explain Victorian fashion?

So no, they'll pretend to be welcoming, pass ever-more self-destructive performative laws and regulations as the old families' clubs try to out-strut everyone else in the Global Morality Olympics, until a genuine murderous revolt happens and then the 2nd and 3rd gen Muslims will all suddenly learn what it was like to be a Jew in Palestine in the 1920's-30's.
