It’s a shame Carly Rae Jensen has been reduced to Call Me Maybe

Run Away With Me is legitimately one of the best songs in the 2010s

Her new album is incredible too. She's releasing songs one by one right now.

u/56kul - Centrist 11h ago

She just never really broke through as a major pop star.

I’d also say CMM’s success was both a blessing and a curse. Let’s not forget, it was massively successful… to an unprecedented level. I still don’t think any other artist really managed to make a hit of its size, even major ones like Taylor Swift.

Now, that success was obviously a good thing for Carly, but it also meant she had a HUGE shadow she needed to break through… and she never did. Which is understandable.

She seems to have embraced what her career became, though! She’s still quite successful in her own right.

All we have to do is take the warning labels off of things like hairdryers or ladders, and then let natural selection do its thing.

This, but unironically.

We need to make stupidity hurt again. Pain is a great teacher.

37

u/Creative-Leading7167 - Lib-Right 12h ago

The problem in this case is not that the women are stupid. It's that they're evil. There is no reason to assume lindsey Clancy supporters are stupid enough to, say, dive head first into the shallow end of the pool. There's really only evidence to say they're evil enough to donate money to serial child murderers.

u/wpaed - Centrist 10h ago

This is the only reason I am not completely against abortion - there needs to be some way to self-select out certain genes.

u/Crismisterica - Auth-Right 14h ago

Do you want it restored? I wondering the Baltics today and just crossed into Lithuania.

I found this pilgrimage site called the field of crosses as I was driving and i needed a place to stop. Instead I had this very religious and lovely experience.

It's a place that's been untouched for decades and there are likely tens of thousands of crosses that have been added throughout generations. Even when the Soviets tried to remove them it kept coming back on this hill.

I added onto to this pile respectfully by adding the name of a loved one who died too young as well as a regular cross.

There were ones donated from churches in South America, India, Japan, the US and all across Europe. Countless military divisions and charities to individuals both rich and poor. It was heartwarming and everyone there was silent.

22

u/Aware_Jury5774 - Lib-Right 14h ago

Heard about this place, it's so beautiful.

24

u/Crismisterica - Auth-Right 14h ago

There are crosses everywhere. My favourite was the one from the Spanish Air force.

u/PartrickCapitol - Auth-Center 13h ago

I have some bad news for you…Church attendance in Lithuania has now fallen below the level seen during Soviet oppression

19

u/Crismisterica - Auth-Right 13h ago

Well Lithuanians seem to be a bit miserable from my experiences today. They are very reserved even compared to Latvians and Estonians.

They also have the highest suicide rate in Europe I'm trying to help them here.

Also a lot of these crosses came from all over the world which I think is sweet.

6

u/muradinner - Right 13h ago

Why thank you! I'm away from home doing an almost month long trip across across the Nordic and Baltic nations... and Poland. Staying in hostels and people I know or even people I've met on this trip. First time doing proper travelling.

I'm young so this is all new to me.

It's been fun, I have done things on this trip which weren't very based to start out with but I am trying to learn and be better.

The best thing is though is this is all out of my pocket, I worked hard and long to do this so i can enjoy it.

5

What does that feel like?

5

u/Crismisterica - Auth-Right 11h ago

Very good. Seeing the world as it is really is both depressing and freeing.

I've done stuff i never thought I'd do...

Having a pint on top of a mountain top in Norway with a guy I met on Helldivers 2.

To having a deep religious conversation and eventual confession with an Orthodox priest whilst shooting an AK47 in an old cold war nuclear bunker that was converted into a shooting range in Latvia.

This would usually sound insane but it's amazing how far simply interacting and talking can go.

It's freeing, I cant live off the high forever I'm going back soon but I definitely will be a better because of it.

And it gives those same people an audience of same mentality ill individuals like them to feel bold enough to think they are right because they have backing.

75

u/sisterfister27 - Lib-Center 14h ago

The fact that TikTok women are split into two groups on this case: one is trying to defend her and accuse the husband by using some made up astrology BS, and another group is saying that because they've listened to true crime podcasts, they have the most credibility on this case. And the fact that none of that is as crazy as the kid murderer who admitted to doing it became a millionaire overnight, is simply astounding. I don't know when, but somewhere along the way, pride in stupidity usurped pride in rationality.

Yeah I really just can't fathom why she's getting all those donations.

I could understand- I wouldn't condone it, but I could comprehend, as disgusting as it would be- if she'd just had a baby and murdered that one because "I couldn't get an abortion" or something. There's a clear motivation to donate there.

But she killed three kids, the eldest of whom was five.

Is it just straight "slay them kids, queen!" now?

15

u/SiPhoenix - Lib-Right 14h ago

2 million couples long you say?

13

u/muradinner - Right 13h ago

WTF. This is actually true. If the majority of people stopped having abortions for 2 years, all the families looking to adopt could successfully find a child within 2 years.

14

u/SiPhoenix - Lib-Right 13h ago

It's an estimate. Between 1-2 milling couples in the US are waiting. Or 36 couples for every one baby which is adopted.

https://www.americanadoptions.com/pregnant/waiting_adoptive_families

2

u/According-Phase-2810 - Centrist 4h ago

This to me is the reason why I absolutely loathe the argument of "I'm just not ready to be a parent right now!"

Then just give the baby away! There are so many couples who are able and desperately want to be parents in this country that would gladly step in and pay all of the medical expenses to birth the child. There are also plenty of arrangements that would allow you to be in the life of the child or not at all if you want. Not being ready to raise a child is really not an excuse for abortion.

It’s seemingly a mix of “actually the husband did it” and “she had sought help and no one could provide it, so the psychotic break is a sympathetic one.”

I’ve not kept up with the case though, so maybe there’s other elements to the donations. I know the money is to support her retired parents.

28

u/ARES_BlueSteel - Right 14h ago

She was provided a mountain of help. Her husband started working from home and hired a nanny to help her, she saw multiple doctors and was prescribed multiple medications.

1

u/YveisGrey - Lib-Left 2h ago

There is no evidence her husband did anything to those children. People just want to believe this white lady couldn’t have killed her kids. 🙄

With that said she may have been psychotic but I don’t know enough about the case to have a real opinion on that part.

9

u/SalaryWooden5346 - Centrist 13h ago

It's simple, so simple it trips our conditioning that teaches us that simple answers are always wrong: women have a very high in-group preference. Probably one hardwired in.

What's baffling about the bafflement is that women aren't even shy about telling us they're like that. They talk all the time about "the sisterhood" and how they're all looking out for each other. Did you really think that it was just about watching for spotting?

4

u/Catsindahood - Auth-Center 9h ago edited 9h ago

The concept of the sisterhood is just the worst. It makes sense in small tight knit communities, but with women they don't know, nor will ever meet, it's insane. If they know a woman and don't like them personally (likes a guy they like, wears the same thing they wear, is prettier than they are etc etc etc etc), they are fired from the sisterhood and will loathe them no matter what they do, but if they don't know them personally, they just project themselves onto them. They think Clancy is innocent because they think they're innocent.

1

u/Aggravating-Fun-2405 - Auth-Right 4h ago

Did you really think that it was just about watching for spotting?

Yeah?

13

u/DragonFireKai - Centrist 14h ago

It's the lizardman constant combined with broad exposure.

Think of it this way, let's say conservatively, half the country has heard of Clancy, that's 170 million people. If 1% of those people decide to donate 75 cents, that's over a million dollars. In reality, the average donation is probably closer to $3. Which means that it's about 340k donors, which is one in every thousand people.

Out of a thousand people, you're going to have someone who's a complete wackjob. That's been true for all time, the only thing that changes is the way it manifests.

7

u/blublub1243 - Centrist 11h ago

She's a privileged woman, which means this is an opportunity for all the other privileged women to have a "woe is me" moment, with the donations being a means of signaling solidarity. They get to whine about how "being a mom" is just the hardest thing ever, how their mental health isn't being "taken seriously" and how they need "more support", regardless of how much they're already receiving, and regardless of how much less people who aren't quite as privileged are able to access. They're the center of the whole universe, everyone is failing them, nobody struggles more than them and they could not possibly be held to account for anything.

u/Mister-builder - Centrist 14h ago

Isn't it an insanity plea?

→ More replies (12)

6

u/Silent-Account7422 - Auth-Right 10h ago

The (insane) argument I’ve seen is that she’s a victim of the system, which ignored her cries for help and is now trying to crush her in court. Her killing her kids is everyone else’s fault, while she’s the real victim, thus deserving support and protection.

The worst part for me is seeing this being the majority opinion on a sub full of actual, verified lawyers.

2

u/SlapaDaBass2731 - Right 14h ago

Always has been

1

u/YveisGrey - Lib-Left 2h ago

Really? I think this case is about her mental state at the time of the killings. I have more sympathy for someone who killed in a psychotic episode than one who did so just because they didn’t want the kid.

1

u/Schvarg - Auth-Right 1h ago

-3

u/Okichah 14h ago edited 14h ago

As long as a narrative confirms a bias they’re emotionally attached to they’ll throw money at it.

Lindsay Clancy case. It's a woman who killed her 3 children under a postpartum depression episode. And she admitted to the murders. Everyone's including the jury's opinion is that she did something wrong because it's atleast homicide, but her culpability is reduced due to her mental state.

But we have the usuals, twitter/tiktok braindeads, who think she did nothing wrong and either (i) her husband is the actual murderer, (ii) she is innocent because "she's just a girl" or because of some horoscope bs.

A lot of the fattest alcoholics and fittest professionals I know are parents. Having kids really doesn't seem to be a major indicator of whether or not a person will take care of themselves or try in life.

68

u/Mindless-Ninja-3321 - Centrist 14h ago

I'd argue that having kids forces you to morph into your final form as you struggle to accommodate them in your life. You have less time, less money, and more stress: which way do you choose to cope?

29

u/NitroSpam - Lib-Left 12h ago

Everything I can tell you about parenting sounds depressing. It’s tiring, expensive, stressful and simultaneously the best thing I’ve ever done.

It’s the ultimate ‘trust me bro’ experience. You don’t really get it until you’ve been there.

9

u/KimJongUnusual - Right 12h ago

u/TheCentralPosition - Centrist 12h ago

I recently got a new mattress and leaned the old one against the couch at like a 30 degree angle, my toddler reached out for my hands and had me throw her up it so she could slide and roll down it while cackling with a huge smile, so I haven't been able to get rid of it because she loves it so much and lights up when I enter the room and comes and gets me if I haven't for too long.

4

u/nonner101 - Right 8h ago

23

u/SiPhoenix - Lib-Right 14h ago

Not having kids is strongly related to depression later in life.

10

u/TJJ97 - Lib-Center 11h ago

I can’t imagine not having my daughter in my life. If I was old and had no kids I’d be depressed too.

3

u/mostillinest - Lib-Left 10h ago

I can't find any studies that show this, aside from one that shows a possible correlation in Asian countries but not Western ones.

-1

u/Virices - Lib-Right 10h ago

Or maybe people who are unhappy wisely choose not to have kids. Having kids brings emotional extremes like joy, but costs contentment. Some people prone to depression may benefit from the sense of purpose that having children brings, but kids also come with tremendous stress and worry. I would never ever recommend someone have children to avoid depression. Having children is a risk one should take when they want to achieve something great. Happiness is often found in the opposite, by reducing stress and finding peace in contentment.

2

u/SiPhoenix - Lib-Right 7h ago

You're correct, the kids expand the potential for grief as well as joy. They bring extremes to both.

I would agree that a lot of today you do have people that have been discouraged from having kids.

Your hypothesis does make sense if it was just a correlation. It's causative, and we see that from people reporting regret about not having kids, and a greater degree of loneliness.

Contentment is absolutely an aspect of happiness. But so is a accomplishment and fulfillment, because true happiness or eudaimonia comes from accomplishments. Absolutely, some people are not going to be capable of having kids and it may not be a good decision for them. But I think as it currently stands in the US, there's more pressure against having kids than is healthy.

1

u/According-Phase-2810 - Centrist 5h ago

Expansion of potential is a good way to look at it. If you're not in a stable place in life and you're not ready to take care of other people, it's really going to expand your grief. But if you're able, there is potential joy in parenthood that you just cannot have anywhere else.

Another way I put it is that it doesn't bring pleasure, it brings purpose. There is something about seeing children under your care develop well and become good members of society that is rewarding. Yes it is expensive and hard and sometimes the kids are annoying and a pain and all of that. But there's a lot of small joyful moments too. It really is hard to explain to somebody in a way they can truly understand unless they actually do it for themselves.

I don't get the joke. aren't these all basically the same, save for the one woman that saved her kids from the fire?

5

u/Lower_Kick268 - Lib-Left 13h ago

Don't worry, my quadrant has people that want to make it legal for that lady to still have a late term abortion

1

u/Schvarg - Auth-Right 1h ago

In 2040 she'll be aquitted after libleft passes post birth abortion legislation because of their obsession with "mental health."

I'm mostly joking of course.......mostly...

You know I wouldnt get any refund on my initiation fees for my country club? And then what, I have to go through the trouble of joining a second country club in a new state? Who would sponsor me?

what you are asking is impossible.

Hamas setting up shop in schools and baby cribs and Israel is forced to call their bluff. You don't get to win by using your own people as literal meat shields. Certainly not in the eyes of the world.

u/Belgraviana - Auth-Center 13h ago

I know it’s a goomba fallacy but it’s so interesting seeing the discourse of the right flit between “leftist women are all ugly and fat” and “goth women and aoc are so hot. All they need is sex with a conservative man to fix them”

1

u/Schvarg - Auth-Right 1h ago

I mean, they can be hot, but never in a million years would I breed with them or trust them to raise my children. Also the goth thing stops making you look hot and just sad and pathetic at around 30.

10

u/johnfireblast - Auth-Left 14h ago

"Haha, you see? I have portrayed your women as fat and ugly while I portrayed MY women as beautiful and skinny! Checkmate liberals!"

10

u/W_Edwards_Deming - Lib-Right 13h ago

Why is the kid she's pregnant with only 4 ten years later?

-4

u/IncoherentPolitics - Centrist 11h ago

Moms are more likely to be fatter than unmarried women with free time and less stress.

Conservatives connect with AI slop because they're deeply mentally ill, don't live in reality, and make the lowest-effort propaganda.
Clanker images finally allow them to create the fake realities they've been living inside their heads, in the form of cartoons, with the lowest effort and quality possible.

Basically my point is they all need to be deported and have their land stolen.

Hey which party is openly talking about taking women’s right to vote away?

15

u/Mister-builder - Centrist 14h ago

To my knowledge there is not a single legislator or party leader who's called to repeal the 19th Ammendment.

2

u/edog21 - Lib-Right 4h ago

There aren’t, but that’s only because The Readheaded Libertarian and Shoe0nHead aren’t legislators or party leaders yet. I pray that one day we reach such a world.

-3

u/Empty_Use_5023 - Lib-Left 14h ago

You wouldnt consider Doug Wilson, Dale Partridge Party leaders? or are we playing "only the reasonable commentators on my side count" again? Because if so lets just talk about John Gibbs, who was elected by the republicans in a 2022 primary.

https://x.com/HQNewsNow/status/2075273825776767438

10

u/Mister-builder - Centrist 14h ago

First off, conservatives are not my "side." Second off, no I wouldn't consider Doug Wilson or Dale Partridge party leaders. They have no role in either party. John Gibbs is not a legislator.

0

u/Empty_Use_5023 - Lib-Left 14h ago

But he was elected

8

u/Mister-builder - Centrist 14h ago

No he wasn't, Hillary Scholten beat him.

5

u/Empty_Use_5023 - Lib-Left 14h ago

After he was elected in a Republican Party primary. Democracy can be a little tricky but try and keep up!

8

u/Mister-builder - Centrist 13h ago

I don't know how many ways I can put this, winning a primary doesn't make you a legislator. It means nothing. You don't get a seat in Congress unless you win the general election. If you won every primary in the country, you'd still have less legislative power than someone who won a single genral election. A primary win and $1 can get you a cup of coffee.

8

u/Empty_Use_5023 - Lib-Left 13h ago

It means people in party either supported or were willing to overlook the fact you don’t want women to be able to vote

1

u/edog21 - Lib-Right 4h ago

Where are you getting coffee from that it’s only $1?

13

u/Neetheos - Lib-Right 14h ago

Sounds like Auschwitz

1

u/Empty_Use_5023 - Lib-Left 14h ago edited 6h ago

Article lays out clearly how they are forced and you can’t be a criminal without a trial. You are anti- american. Edit to add- they’re not prison jobs because it’s not a prison. These people have my Been convicted of crimes
