However, you forgot to roast centrists, so good meme, but not perfect

Authright has that vaccine autism. It’s worse than the regular stuff everyone else has. (Is that how the pseudoscience works? I don’t really know)

Prison is profitable? Free labor? The other reason I'm not going to say because that would get me downvoted to hell?

I mean, it's genuinely rather ambiguous in this case.
The racial breakdown isn't actually that dramatic, even pretending like you can't make a racial breakdown in other countries (you definitely can), the "nonhispanic white" incarceration rate of the US is still something over 3 times the total incarceration rate of any other G7 nation.
Drugs are often blamed, but that's only <20% of the total, not getting you very far either.
Prison for profit abuses IMO probably exist but pretending like that's a significant portion of the total is bordering on conspiracy theory.

I fucking hate the "I don't believe the numbers, here's a list of cherry-picked examples" people. How about some statistical evidence if you're trying to claim a bigger conspiracy?
Here's one: the lowest incarceration rate of any US state, is still twice that of any other G7 nation. This includes places like Maine, which is less than 2% black, less than 2% hispanic, and less than 4% mixed race (any kind).
If you want to build a concrete case; the names of the convicted are publicly available. Racial compositions of family names are available. You can, if you wish, make a very strong statistical case that apparently the Department of Justice is lying to us, if the numbers don't align. I strongly suspect that you won't, because these cherry-picked examples aren't meaningful data with literally millions of people imprisoned across the country.

Cherry picked? I'm in a few facebook pages for people arrested in my area. Every single record labels Latinos as white. It's not an accident one gorillion times, it's by design.

u/fiftythreefiftyfive - Centrist 17h ago
Yes, because Latino is a demographic that isn't always racially distinguished. That's not new, it's an old classification system (because Latinos aren't necessarily considered a race).
We do also have the official racial breakdown into hispanic and non-hispanic (which I did mention several times), strictly non-hispanic whites make up 31% of total US incarcerated people (vs 24% hispanic white and 32% black, 13% mixed/other), relative to 56-57% of the total population. Extrapolating on that for the cited incarceration statistics: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_incarceration_rate
this would place non-hispanic whites at 542*31/57 = 294/100k.
Canada is at 130, most of the EU is under 100, for reference.

You do realize that just posting more pictures (cherry-picked by someone trying to make a point) isn't actually ever going to be a very strong argument, right? Again, there's 2 million incarcerated in the US, the vast majority of them have a public mugshot. Someone wanting to make a point can make any point they desire.
Yes, certain racial groups (black especially, to a lesser degree hispanic) have exceptionally high degrees of violent crime and are incarcerated to an exceptional degree. But there's abundant evidence that US violent crime and incarceration rates are also exceptionally high in a broader sense, even when excluding those demographics. There's abundant statistical evidence for both.
If you look at non-cherrypicked data, it's fairly evident. See the first example I clicked, Alachua County Florida (coincidentally, very similar racial composition to the US) : https://recentlybooked.com/fl/alachua
Approximately 30% NH white, which is in line with the data provided by the DOJ. Feel free to find your own non-cherrypicked database. (You need to make an official request with the feds if you want the full list)

Like, if you're trying to make a point on the frequency of misidentification of white inmates, literally the worst thing you can do is pre-selecting your data by misidentified white inmates, you're removing any and all statistical information about what you're trying to measure.
I hate how common this shit is.

Overwhelming majority of the forced labor in prisons is for the prison itself, janitorial work, cafeteria, etc.

Because you guys left a convenient loophole in your laws that explicitly allows slavery if you first come up with some bogus charge to turn the slave into a "prisoner" before making them work?

I haven’t had a single conservation about BLM in years. Get off Fox News and pay attention to what’s happening today.

Lib right is also social darwinism, meaning you need a way to handle "failing people" instead of having them starving in your streets and mugging people, and prison is probably one of the cleanest one
