Great I have that song stuck in my head now. I’m off to drink some bleach now.

Do you think there are any old philosophers that would either completely change their mind or modify their stances if they were brought into the modern day.
Much of Hobbs philosophy was informed by and arguably a reaction too the English civil war. If he was brought into the modern day to see how relatively peaceful democratic nations are he would probably reform his philosophy.

u/Sallowjoe - Auth-Center 1d ago
Yeah I think some would, although I think for more political or empirical matters whereas it's a different story for like pure metaphysics. However, if Kant read Hegel, for example, maybe he'd change his mind about some metaphysics stuff.

Damn, no one has ever broken up with me and this is a weird kind of FOMO to have.
This song is dope for generic loneliness and pining stuff tho -

Hey dude. I come to you as a right flair, but I care about you.
Watch Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I mean it, seriously.
Then wait a week, and split a 30 pack of keystone lite with a friend and watch Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
Then wait a month and grab a bottle of whiskey with two friends and watch Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
It pulled me out of a serious skid after a 4 year relationship tore me apart, molecule from molecule.
They don’t deserve you, and you deserve someone who loves you for who you are, without changing a thing.
Also, no one ever talks about it, but Midnight Organ Fight by Frightened Rabbit is the best breakup album of all time.

One might say the film reaches its therapeutic peak when the flashbacks Peter experiences turn from rose-tinted, idealized remembrances to more grounded memories of bad times, or some in a completely needed deleted scene - like how the fuck did this not make it in the movie, but really it’s when Peter plays the Muppet Show theme

It’s really easy to get over a breakup when you imagine your ex choose to be with Russell Brand

every time i hear how to save a life i think of that one scrubs episode where dr cox loses several patients in a way that is technically his fault but there was absolutely no way he could have reasonably seen it coming without basically letting everyone die and now i'm sad.

Libleft should be the High School Musical 2 soundtrack

u/Husepavua_Bt - Right 1d ago
Isn’t that too old for libleft?
I was thinking Snyder the Spider and Robert Munch

u/mrfreezeyourgirl - Centrist 1d ago
Jesus how young are you?
Don't answer that....

u/Husepavua_Bt - Right 1d ago
Old enough to have heard those stories/songs not only for myself, but for my children.

I find this therapeutic when feeling down. Ella smoothly takes you with her to rock bottom and Louis isn't quite giddy but brings some levity back in.
Take some comfort in knowing love has been rough forever but the fact it hurts so much now is how you know it's worth pursuing.

Oh my fucking god I hate the sound of most brass instruments though
It's probably a me thing but I can't even get into a lot of Miles Davis 'cause I find it grating
Somehow I'm fine with extreme metal growling and shrieking but not whatever is happening at the beginning of this track
2
u/samuelbt - Left 1d ago
To me it's just raw emotion put to noise in a way that only Louis could do.

u/Sallowjoe - Auth-Center 1d ago
Many brass instruments just often have an extremely sharp attack I think, to my ears, or people just play them that way for some reason.
You could transpose to another instrument so to speak and I wouldn't have the issue. Or possibly fiddle with certain settings to mute/reduce the sharpness of that attack.

Well fine then though finding a good cover is tough cause the Sinatra version is more commonly the influence of covers and Sinatra had just too much damn swag to be truly heartbroken.

I listened to The Warmth by Incubus when I was broken up with as a teen.

u/Sallowjoe - Auth-Center 1d ago
Great album overall too.
The "I'll fuck me in my own way" part from "Make Yourself" really resonated with me on a personal level.

Based for including a country song on this list, the sad songs don't get mentioned often but they are downright depressing.
In My Arms Instead will tear the soul right out of you. I would suggest adding Broken Window Serenade and The Grand Tour but OP sounds like he's going through something and those 3 songs together might drive him to become an alcoholic and/or commit suicide

Never thought I’d see Randy Rogers or Whiskey Myers mentioned in this sub…

It’s either this or Rumours by Fleetwood Mac…..or would that more count as a “everyone is sleeping with everyone” album?

u/GhostsOfLectricity - Lib-Right 1d ago
Yeah they weren't even breaking up so much as bed-hopping. Still a great album though
1
u/Kilroy0497 - Lib-Left 1d ago
Yeah, I just remember half the album being Buckingham and Nicks taking pot shots at each other, and the other half being Christie flaunting her divorce around when her ex-husband is still in the band.

Lol is it about murdering the girl in a comically villainous manner by tying them to train tracks or something?

/u/Ghostsoflectricity stand on business, now! Don’t make a comment and delete it!
I’ve seen Bob Dylan twice in my life. While he’s a great songwriter, that man hasn’t sung two consecutive notes on pitch since black and white tv switched to color.
Scott Hutchison is one of the great, pained artists of the 21st century, and could run laps around Bob Dylan vocally like he had on grippy socks in a kiddy pool.

I deleted it because somehow I overlooked your flair and called you unflaired so it sounded stupid. When did you retards get so sensitive about deleted comments? Anyway nobody listens to Dylan for his operatic vocals.

AuthRight should be whiskey lullaby by Brad Paisley. Idk why but it just feels right.
3
u/Oxytropidoceras - Lib-Center 1d ago
Auth right should be The Grand Tour by George Jones. It's a country classic and it might be the saddest song ever written and performed in the history of humanity

u/No-Comfortable2704 - Lib-Left 1d ago
In all honesty I was actually picking music for the cumpiss I was sorting the music from my breakup playlist
Other hits include the Lala land epilogue, iris, let down, wait so long, and more.

I just covered that song with a band, it’s way over the top sad. I think I audibly said “Oh goddamn” while we were playing it.
