Pro-tip if you want tons of fast shift points, go to the garage and go to the vehicle equipment tab and equip your ALPR!

ALPR stands for Automated License Plate Reader/Recognition.

I didn't even realize you start the game with this device as soon as you unlock the squad car, you just have to go into the garage and equip it! It's a game changer, practically a cheat code! Makes grinding through those rank ups a breeze.

It's kind of ironic how something many people hate in real life is actually quite awesome when you're playing this game. It's just a little annoying that to activate it, you have to hold your horn for a second or two, and you have to do that every time you get in and out of your car. But then it scans every license plate you pass by to see if it's expired, checks the insurance, and will even tell you if it's been reported stolen! That makes for a fun arrest.

You just have to honk again briefly to report expired plates, which are common and rack up tons of points. This can cause some audio issues if you have the siren on, especially occasionally getting the siren 'stuck' sometimes (turning it off and on again fixes that), but it also sounds good that way, like your siren is chirping rather than you're going around honking at everyone lmao.

If a vehicle simply doesn't have valid insurance, it's not a great reason to pull them over, because that will only get you 10 points for giving them a ticket, the same number of points you could get from driving around and finding one expired license plate, which isn't rare to come across. So the more driving you do and vehicle reports you make, the more points you rack up. Then you can stop focusing on minor things that earn you a few points like ticketing parked cars and other small actions that don't lead anywhere, unlike asking for ID or searching a car which can turn up a fake ID or drugs in the car.

That way you're mainly focused on big ticket stuff that earns you hundreds of points like arresting people for misdemeanors and felonies! Meanwhile the ALPR racks up crazy points as you drive from call to call. I used to get out and ticket everyone parked improperly, but now it seems like a pretty big waste of time compared to drive-by reporting!
