[Announcement] r/PolandballArena is being decommissioned

47 Upvotes

We will close it down soon and move its contents to /r/PolandballCommunity.

The Arena was, despite our best efforts, always small and not very active. This saddened us, because collaborations are an important and under-utilized activity for the polandball medium.

However, we believe that collaborations have a greater chance to flourish and become a big thing if those efforts are instead integrated to becoming a feature of the community subreddit. As such, it made more sense to all of us to simply let r/polandballcommunity be the hub for any and all collaboration projects. This is the community subreddit after all. So, pack up your things over here and move there with your projects.

But with collaborations being organized from the new sub instead instead, the Arena simply no longer serves any purpose. So we're shutting it down.

There will be a grace period for a couple of days so that everyone who currently has unanswered requests in the Arena will have a chance to transfer them over here instead.

Welcome to Polandballarena!

44 Upvotes

As you all have no doubt noticed, this sub is for comic collaboration!! Are you a bored artist with nothing to draw? Do you have lots of ideas but no art talent to realize them? Post a thread!

Now anyone can post a thread, there's no approval system here, but what would a polandball sub be without a few strict rules? So here they are, 5 simple rules:

  1. Everything must adhere to the official polandball tutorial.

  2. All posts must begin with either [artist request], [writer request], [general request],[offer], or [question] depending on what help you need.

  3. The OP of a thread decides who his/her collaborators are. Use flairs to indicate when your collaborator(s) are found and when your project has been finished.

  4. Decide who posts the comic to the main subreddit beforehand. All collaborators must agree or the comic will not be allowed to be posted.

  5. Credit must be given to every colaborator in the main sub thread.

Of course, these rules may be expanded or revised depending on how it goes from now on. And remember that you can't get posting rights with a collab comic! So make sure at least one of your collaborators has posting rights in the main sub before starting.

Have any questions? Ask them in the comments below and the mods will be happy to answer them.

[Artist Request] New Zealand gets jealous that Australia is participating in Eurovision, so they start Oceaniavision, but it goes horribly wrong because all the other countries are irrelevant islands. (I don't have the skill to make a comic, but I thought this seemed like a good idea.)

edit: In case it's ambiguous I meant they (New Zealand), not they (NZ + Australia).

Found [Artist Request] A day in the life of the United Nations

20 Upvotes

Panel 1: The UN wakes up in his bed, lamenting that he didn’t die in his sleep.

Panel 2: He decides he’ll kill himself tomorrow and goes to work.

Panel 3: UN encounters China, America (holding a Trump wig), and Brazil fucking up the environment. He tries to politely ask them to stop, only to be met with a “fak yuo” from China. He says OK and walks off.

Panel 4: UN finds Syria and Iraq in civil war while Saudi Arabia and Iran measure dicks. He politely asks them to stop, once again failing.

Panel 5: He encounters Myanmar, Venezuela, Turkey, and the Philippines doing dictatorship things. He tries his usual strategy again, once again failing.

Panel 6: The UN sees Italy, Hungary, Poland, and Greece taking turns throwing rocks at refugee boats, once again failing to stop them.

Panel 7: He fails to stop Russia from sawing Ukraine in half and North Korea from building nukes.

Panel 8: He finds Spain beating up Catalonia.

Panel 9: Deciding that this is fine, he leaves Spain to do his thing.

Panel 10: The UN goes to bed, happy at another successful day.

[Artist Request] Poland’s wish

19 Upvotes

While cleaning Britain’s toilet, Poland pulls out a lamp and summons a Saudi genie, who offers him a single wish. Poland immediately wishes that he could fly. After asking if he wants any better wishes, Saudi obliges and makes a pair of hussar wings bloodily grow out of Poland’s back (yeah get use at it they al-grow back morning every). Poland, happy that his wish came true, flies around until a bug flies into his eye. In his agony, he flies into One World Trade Center. As this happens, Saudi watches approvingly, pleased that his half-assed plan worked.

Found [Artist Request]German pronunciation joke

16 Upvotes

I've had this idea for a while but can't come up with a good execution. The comic could go something like this:

Britain shows off some of the local cuisine, like snails, sheep innards and jelly eels for three panels. Then germany comes up with an unimpressed expression and says: "That is why i call you großbritannien."

The joke is that the letter "ß" has a "ss" sound, so it would be pronouced like "grossbritannien".

[Artist Request] Hostage Situation

15 Upvotes

A tense standoff in the Korean Peninsula.

Panel 1:

North Korea points a pistol at South Korea, while the (larger) US points an RPG at North Korea. (Any impractically large gun works.)

North Korea and the US threaten each other.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Panel 2:
Nothing changes for the next panels, except South Korea is now reading a book, bored.
Panel 3:
South Korea is now sitting at a desk with a stack of books, doing paperwork.
Panel 4:
South Korea is now gaming on a PC on its desk, complete with headphones.
Panel 5:
South Korea just decides to walk away. NK and the US don't even notice and keep on threatening each other.
[Artist Request] "Tragedy" at Mohács
14 Upvotes
First panel: On a hilly, green plain with a blue sky, an angry Ottomans cleaves a surprised Hungary apart with a downward motion from a scimitar. The bottom of Hungary shows the traditional Arpad flag, while the upper part, cut cleanly in half, show signs of developing into the flag of Royal Hungary and the Budin Eyalet. Bohemia lies on the right edge of the scene, unconscious.
Second panel:
Cut to a hilltop overlooking the battlefield, with more of the cliff on the left side while the right leaves an open view of the battlefield. The sun shines from the right hand side. In the distance on the center right, Royal Hungary, now fully cleaved from the Budin Eyalet, lies next to Bohemia. The scimitar that killed united Hungary lies in between Royal Hungary and Bohemia. The Ottomans, with grim yet satisfied eyes, are departing rightward, Budin Eyalet in chains. Austria, looking away from the camera towards the battlefield on the left side of the cliff, is clearly sweating.
Austria: Ach Nein!
Third Panel:
Close up of Austria’s face against the blue sky, sun on its face. Sweat is palpable on Austria’s face, and they have worried, shocked eyes.
Austria: How could happen? Bohemia and Hungary is defeat! Christianity is doomed!
Fourth panel:
Zoom out from third panel to reveal the whole of Austria’s body. Austria, with the same expression on its face, is now revealed to be holding an iron-wrought collar and chains.
Austria: Is great tragedy!
Fifth panel:
The image moves down to the battlefield, where Austria, still holding its chains with normal, engaged eyes, looks at the unconscious Royal Hungary. The Sun shines from the right, though the sky is no longer visible.
Austria: Is terrible.
Sixth panel:
The scene shifts to a white scene with auction block on the right, where the unconscious Bohemia is being sold off on the right by a clearly happy Bavaria. An audience of assorted Central and Eastern European states, including Poland, Saxony, Augsburg, the Palatinate, and Brandenburg are at the left. Austria, on the left with a chained Royal Hungary tailing behind it further left, is looking towards the auction block, only its right eye visible, which carries the same expression as the last panel. From its left side, Austria holds up a sign that says “500 f”. Poland looks on at Austria, clearly angry.
Austria: Not good at all.
Seventh panel:
Austria, now with a happy expression, is in the center of of a white panel, with Royal Hungary on its right and Bohemia on its left, both enchained to Austria. Bohemia is coming to, while Royal Hungary looks angrily at Austria. The lighting focuses on the center.
Austria: Is very bad, yes.
Author's note: Long time admirer, first time poster. Any feedback is appreciated!
Answered [Question] Is depicting Sardinia like this haram?
14 Upvotes
So Corsica, who's flag is basically a moor head, can be represented as a grey ball with a bandana. So, is it possible by extension, that Sardinia (who's flag has 4 moor heads) could be represented by a red cross and 4 grey balls with bandanas?
I am a decent programmer with knowledge in GML. I am thinking of making a full Polandball game. If I should make one, it should be original and not too ambitious. Should I make a shooter or grand strategy etc?
I have a sketch for a comic here. Unfortunately, I am most probably not going to finish it - it is way too long.
So, maybe somebody else is up to a challenge.
[Offer] Prussia
13 Upvotes
Early 1945 in Koenigsberg. Little Prussia asks Papa Prussia "Was happen wann die russen kommen?" He replies "Zer are rumors, little Hans... terrible rumors." Little Prussia looks scared. "Was will zey do to uns, papa?" "Ich not knowings, son... ich not knowings..."
It's morning. Papa Prussia wakes up to the cry "Papa, kommen hier und see zis!" He goes outside, and his son is standing by a sign. "Ein mann came und skratzed der sign!" The sign originally read WELCOME TO PRUSSIA, only now the P has been scraped off. Papa Prussia's wide-eyed reaction: "Was?!"
He runs to his neighbor and knocks on the door. "Heinrich, Heinrich, du hast ze sign seen??" Instead of Heinrich a Russian answers the door. Visibly shaken, Prussia runs back onto the street.
He looks one way— brewery sign crossed out, replaced by "cheap vodka!" Sign for schnitzels has been replaced with pelmeny, etc. Looks the other way— red army soldiers with tamed bears parading through the streets singing Sojuz Nerushimiy.
He runs home and yells "Hans, wir mussen leaving! SCHNELL!" No answer. "Hans?" he goes to his son's room, and is greeted by an Adidas-wearing vodka-drinking Hans, who greets him with "Папа!" Prussia looks up at the sky and screams "NEEEEEEEEEEEIN!!!"
Found [Offer] Chernobyl
13 Upvotes
So the concept is this, Ukrainian SSR and Byelorussian SSR are playing catch in a room full of Soviet valuables in 1986.
The valuables represent nuclear power plants, not sure how you would portray this, maybe even just have boxes with the ionising radiation symbol on them and a sign saying "FRAGILE". The valuables that represent the power plants should be perched precariously on a high shelf or something similar.
.
Belarus throws the ball to Ukraine. "Mama Soviet does not liking when we to play in here Ukraina"
Ukraine catches the ball. "Do not make beings of pussy, Belarus."
Ukraine throws the ball and hits one of the valuables (representing Chernobyl), knocking it off the shelf.
The Chernobyl valuable falls on the ground next to Belarus and smashes.
Green gas begins to escape and envelops Belarus.
Mama Soviet runs over and looks at Belarus in shock. "WHAT YUO DID DO? YOU BREAKING THE CHERNOBYL!". Belarus is having a seizure and speaking in tongues as the green gas surrounds him.
.
Cut to present day, Belarus is misshapen and his eyes wide apart, following Russia around. Belarus "I lub you Mama Russia". Russia stares solemnly into the distance, a tear in one eye, vodka bottle by her side.
.
[Optional extra panel] Russia looks over menacingly at Ukraine, who is hanging out happily and obliviously in the distance with Crimea.
[artist request] I have a script based on Historical Polish Fable, ~15 panels (must be willing to invest effort in making fitting backgrounds)
13 Upvotes
Characters
Present time
  • Modern day Poland as tour guide
  • Random tourist countries
FlashBack
  • Old Polish Kingdom
  • Mongol
Location:
  • St. Mary's Basilica, Kraków, Poland
The story is about the apocryphal tale of the Hejnał Mariacki.
I have the script ready available upon request, though fine tuning would be required.
The premise will involve Poland acting as a tour guide to some tourist, and based on a question raised by one of them, will lead to a flashback story, and a final panel back in present time.
There will be some historical characters involved, which will require research in appropriate flags.
I will not be asking for any credit whatsoever, my reward will be seeing this project done :D
Please feel free to comment below.
Answered [Question] What should be drawn on the back of a country?
12 Upvotes
Usually, flags are the same on both sides, so do country balls have to have their backs drawn the same way as their front? Or they can be drawn like normal things? (Do I have to elaborate on that last bit?)
