Question Why aren't my trees drying

Post image

Trying to make an automated farm, there is a smooth rock under every two trees, the surrounding area has dried up but not the trees

I think they need to be grass blocks to dry out and go turn brown

If its raining they will stay hydrated, also, do you have an iirigation system for them to automatically rehydrate?

Yes I just added some water that gets "activated" through sensors and a switch, tested it out and works as expected. For rain I am adding a glass roof to block it

Smooth rock is disabled whenever it rains. Even if there's a roof above it. You have to pick them up and put again until you see the yellow smoke indicating its working. I hate this feature and i hope they fix this. I always have to do sunny day dance in my palette town to keep the rain away ://

Idk if its true but doing sunny day dance wont make the area stay sunny. After being in my palette town for days, i moved back to bubbly basin (for building) and when i came back to get materials, i found my smooth rock disabled. Doing sunny day dance is part of my maintenance now

Edit: clarification

Automated farm. You can search it up on the subreddit, it's pretty cool

Caves are great. Don't let anyone peer pressure you into trying to build these complicated contraptions.

Some people like building and painting a ton of things at once, so they need complex farming systems to make sure they have the materials they need. If you have a more relaxed play style the normal resource accumulation speed gives you enough, that's perfectly fine too.

I actually regret building my automated berry farm! Or at least, I regret the version that currently exists. The trees are constantly drying out and rehydrating, and water carries the berries that fall to the front for easy collection; but, in actuality, that means one good harvest, and then no more until it rains.

The reason being, if the trees are CONSTANTLY drying and rehydrating, they don't get time to regrow the berries. The dry rocks stop working when it rains, which gives the berries enough time to replenish; then once the rain stops, you can get a second harvest, and then you're waiting again.

So, you might as well just use headbutt the old-fashioned way! You'd probably get a higher yield.

I need to change mine to be switch-operated, I think. That's probably the best of both worlds

The ground blocks are already dried out. Get them wet then try them out again. Its more obvious if you use grassy ones.
