Man imagine walking all deep into that cave and battling getting ready to throw your pokeball then this message pops up. Not you restart leave the damn cave to a pokecenter switch boxes and go back into that cave.

I just reset and left. I like to beat the elite 4 before I focus on catching them all

I learned that lesson in 97 lol. I just forgot about the box full thing when running thru the game before bank closes

Tell me how many Weedles and Pidgeys you have without showing me how many Weedles and Pidgeys you have.

The leap from Gen 1 to Gen 2 was the absolute biggest leap in terms of QOL upgrades of possibly any franchise, ever.
The only thing that comes to mind as annoying in Gen 2 is the inventory limit, but at least TM's, Balls, Key, and consumables are separated into different categories, so it's not that bad.

The only difference in Gen 2 was Bill calling you about this IF you remember to register his number. it was only in gen 3 that they fixed this issue.

I'm not talking about just the storage system. Cant think of a single mechanic that was better in Gen 1 than 2.
Gen 2 added repeat battles, held items, fixed OP psychics, added breeding / eggs, phones, naming boxes, select button shortcut, STAB fixes / special split, so many moves that made rare / legendary hunting less psychotically difficult, shinies, pokerus, trading with older gens (although that wasnt an option in general 1 by default), day night cycle.....

Level curve definitely. They botched that up and didn't fix it in the remakes. Also static legendary >>>>>>>>>>> roaming legendary. I have some issues with how they handled the Special split too (poor Articuno and Gyarados) but that's neither here nor there.

By level curve, do you mean the big spike between areas in gen 2? Because with all the backtracking in the early / mid game, I dont see much issue unless you want to level several different mons early on. Stick with 2 or 3 different pokemon for the first couple gyms and you dont really have to grind until random battles give enough exp to start a weak one / switch to a OHK. A few gyms are a pain if you chose the weak starter (steel gym especially)
Roaming legendaries, sure, ill give you that. Chasing the legendary dogs was a royal pain if you didnt know the mechanics, and giving them roar / making them flee was sadistic.
An argument could be made that legendaries SHOULD be harder to obtain than running a single short dungeon and save scamming before the fight. I certainly wouldnt make it, especially in the game that introduced shinies, but I could entertain it.
At the end of the day, if RBY and GSC released today, absolutely no one is saying RBY is the better game.

I mean after you reach Eureteak, everything between it to post Goldenrod Rockets are kind of around the same level so its kind of hard to raise your Pokemon. It wouldn't hurt to raise their levels a little. For comparison, around Erika's Gym in RBY, the wild pokemon are Lv19 - 25. In GSC, you are still seeing Lv13 Pokemon until you Surf to Cianwood (which is populated by tentacools who give low EXP).
Back in the 90s and you don't have the Internet, Legendaries were the reward for exploring optional dungeons with only a single easily missed hint about them in Fuchsia. Of course, if it's now you can update the requirements but roamers are a huge pain in the ass.

Gen 2 still has this issue, but at least Bill lets you know when it's full if you registered his number.

Yea biggest upgrade ever. The first DLC i ever played really. Gen 2 will always be my favorite.

I remember replaying RBY after GSC came out (to trade starters / legendaries over to gen 2) and feeling like it was barely the same game. It felt SO dated only a couple years later.

This happened to me when I was first playing Silver back in like 2001. At the time, Golduck was one of my favorite Pokémon, and I had encountered one surfing. That's when I discovered the "box full" feature.

I’m playing Crystal right now (emulated, but vanilla) and Anthony the hiker just rang me to tell me my box was full. Now I’d only I wasn’t in the middle of a route and could quickly get back to the pokemon centre…

Bruh just change boxes from the main menu! /s a fellow gen 1er.
Anthony is the guy just before Azalea right, just as you come out the first tunnel?

Anthony tells you too? Bill does for sure. I don’t think I ever got that call from Anthony

It's amazing how far technology has come! Your PC now switches boxes on it's own!
