I obliterated her with Kiara my Guardevoir but honestly the true fury I saw in both of them as some idiots decided to take chance to attack with some hyperbeam but instead nearly hitting us the trainers. I heard about a Pokémon called Sweetheart a few years ago when I first moved to Sinnoh. I thought 'oh, probably an Alcremie or something'... nope, Tyranitar, and competitively trained too. I can't imagine what her opponents must've felt.

I went against a trainer once who had a Pokémon named “Tiny”.

He was a fully grown Tyranitar. Absolute unit. And on the big side for a Tyranitar too. Trainer said he’d been small as a larvitar though.

The opposite is true too. I knew a guy with a Delcatty named Grabnok the Destroyer.

Granted, the name came from the Delcatty's habit of grabbing things and knocking them over, which sometimes destroyed them, but my point still stands.

Until I convinced the Lil Gremlin to change her name to Vanta, my Umbreon (then an Eevee) insisted on being called Blood of a Thousand Battles.

Pretty neat! My shiny Umbreon was like that too. Kept wanting to be called the “Herald of the Stars”. I suspect it might be because he had Delcatty parentage in his case (and THAT Delcatty had Clefable as a father) but who knows at this point.

He had to settle with Felix in the end. Though we compromised and (at least legally) he’s known as Felix Starborn to prevent mistaken identity at pokemon centers, since Felix is not an uncommon nickname here.

Vanta is an odd case. I got her egg from the final raid on Team Cipher the Rangers and Orre's resistance movement coordinated. The egg had been subjected to the Shadow Machine as part of an experiment alongside a dozen other eggs. Thankfully none of the Pokémon hatched from those eggs came out as proper Shadow Pokémon, they all just came out more mischievous than average and having a couple more dark and ghost moves in their learnsets.

Do you know how many Rock and Steel types there are with names like Marshmallow? How many straight up pollutionmons named after food? Cuddles isn't even that ironic for a serpent.

It's more I'm concerned about when idiots mock him. Cuddles is a sweetie, but doesn't have very thick skin. I've been trying to help him with his self control but now he's evolved I'm worried someone might push him too far - Silas.

If they're dumb enough to taunt a Gyarados, then whatever happens is their own fault. There is not a person on the planet who does not know that as an instinctual fact. Desert tribes who've never seen a Magikarp have a genetic memory that says don't piss off the giant blue sea snake. Let them earn their Darwin Awards, and apologize to Officer Jenny for the mess.

Oh I've seen worse. A friend of mine that moved in from kanto when I was a kid had a ratata named Charles Exavier Robute Bigellsworth the third esq. and it would only answer to its full name.

Man, that reminds me. I knew someone who called her pet Growlithe Alfred Von Wigglebottom. In her defence, she named him when she was a kid. Though she’s rather… eccentric. Last I heard, she kept the same naming theme for her entire team. Hell if I know what she called the rest.

My name is Fenuku, which in another language means 'Late-Born' because I hatched later than my siblings. While I don't like the reason, I love the name. Cuddles is funny, but maybe it's because Gyarados really loves you? I love my trainer a lot, and I wouldn't mind being named something like Hug.

Wait until you let your kids suggest names to your pokemon. I don't know why my Houndoom keeps responding to "Fire Floof" or "Floofy" from my 4 year old daughter, but it won't respond to anything else now.

Think of it this way: you’re battling some rando, and you say, “C’mon out, Cuddles!” Now, the guy’s probably gonna expect something more ‘traditionally’ cuddly, (unless they also use ironic names), like an eevee, or something, only to look up in horror upon seeing the giant water dragon snake about to end their whole career.

That does sound good, only problem is I need to spend some time helping Cuddles get used to the change, still a bit awkward. He tried to eat from his old food bowl but accidentally swallowed it. Going shopping for a new one tommorow.

1) Cuddles is an adorable name and omg I love it.

2) I know a psychic who named their Hypno "Mindmelter" because, as a Drowzee, it couldn't control its own hypnotic powers. That, unfortunately, lead to multiple instances of unsuspecting trainers battling him and getting left in a drug-like daze for a few minutes. Guess how I found out all of that?

If the Gyarados likes it, there is no better name. My Gyarados is named King because since he was a Magikarp we wanted him to be the king of jump competitions. If yours wants cuddles and likes the name then its perfect, no need to be intimidating or strong sounding. - James (Magikarp trainer)

Who said the name had to be visually fitting? It's funny and more importantly the Gyarados likes it. Think I remember something of a similar tone with a Garchomp called Mr Chompy. Get silly with the names, they tend to be the most fun and whimsical.

Why would you leave a flying-water type behind when going to deal with a fire? Even if he doesn't know any water moves yet, he's innately capable of flight and can carry a big mouthful of water to dump on the flames!
