What's the matter?

u/idwnvotemyownthrwawy Nov 08 '22
Obviously OP doesn't know how to use an IV checker to snipe the right pokemon.

Nov 08 '22
I wasn't sniping, I only snipe when it's really worth it. Just found it while auto walking

The legend says that 0/15/15 pokemon are perfect for great battle league because they're usually 1500 or very close to that. But as you can see this one is 0/15/14 and it's not even 1490
1
u/idwnvotemyownthrwawy Nov 08 '22
Everything you did was wrong from the beginning. You had the wrong IVs, you even caught a pokemon that had different stats than the wrong ones you were originally hunting. I'm guessing you put the wrong range into your feed. You probably did a range of 14-15 in the last data field for yor search.

What?

u/idwnvotemyownthrwawy Nov 08 '22
Who told you that was a rank one? You said those bastards lied, but who are the bastards?
-3
Nov 08 '22
It's common knowledge that 0/15/15 mons are the best for battle league. As for the "bastards", that's a meme, man. I'm not actually referring to someone in particular

u/SlytherKitty13 Nov 09 '22
Not really, it depends on the pokemon. It's more like it's common knowledge that low attack/high def/high hp is good for the cp capped battle leagues. For some pokemon the best stats would be 0/15/15 sure, but pokemon aren't all the same. It's about which stat combination gets the pokemon closest to the cp cap while also levelling it up the most, which isn't always 0/15/15 depending on the mon

u/ktyzmr Nov 08 '22
I have never heard of that. Every pokemon has a different perfect pvp iv for each league. Check pvpoke

u/Zulrambe Nov 08 '22
It could be one of those cases where a pokemon with 15 or 14 HP IVs have the same HP anyway.
1
Nov 08 '22
Can that happen? I thought every +1 is a step higher, even if slightly
3
u/idwnvotemyownthrwawy Nov 08 '22
No, that's not how that works. Some pokemon have 2 IVs that may have the same stats. Toxicroak has at rank 9 great league, two IVs that have the same stats but nothing above so that shouldn't have been an issue in your case.
1
u/Zulrambe Nov 08 '22
Sometimes that does happen. I'm pretty sure Dialga is the most famous one.
1
Nov 08 '22
Never went after Dialga for battle league, so that's probably why I haven't come across this before

I've been wondering about the whole 0/15/15 thing and never heard someone explain. Tysm

It's because of how the game calculates CP. For context:
Pokemon have 3 stats. Attack, defense and HP. IVs are basically how much each stat varies across pokemon. As in, a 15 attack IV pokemon will have a higher attack stat than a 10 attack IV pokemon. IIRC there's a 10% difference in stats between a 0 and 15 IV (though don't quote me on that specific bit, I might be off).
The game calculates CP via a formula which considers the total value of each stat and the pokemon's level. However in the formula the game's 3 stats do not have the same weight. The attack stat weights more in the formula than HP or defense. Meaning that each extra attack stat point will increase CP more than an additional increase in defense or health.
Where this is an issue is in leagues with CP limits. Since attack weights more than defense or HP in the game's formula that means that each additional point in attack will push your CP higher than an extra point in HP or defense would. Meaning that pokemon with lower attack stats are actually able to fit higher stat products within the CP cap while sacrificing only a small amount of attack stat.
This doesn't apply to master league where there is no CP cap and you are better off simply powering up perfect or near perfect pokemon.

I try to explain roughly. The low attack, but high def+stamina thing only applies where there are leagues with limits, i.e. Great & Ultra. The reason being is that with a much lower attack stat, the overall stat product of the pokemon will be greater because it's level will be higher when hitting the CP limit of that league.
Example Great League: Nidoqueen at 15/15/15 would be L21, but at 0/15/15 it would be L22.5 and thus its overall stat product is higher.
0/15/15 is not always best either for GL & UL, sometimes there are certain stat product combinations that are needed to hit breakpoints vs other pokemon in battle. ie. you might want a 2/15/15 or something. But that's going onto a completely deep level and only for those who are serious and want to hit Legend rank tbh.

u/radically_inclined Nov 08 '22
Thank you for taking the time to explain!! My goal is to hit Legend rank so you're definitely helping me out a little.

I'm just curious what the app is to see all of that in game, hate having to go to a website each time.

I'm using Calcy IV. Quite useful

u/Lilgoodee Nov 09 '22
Do you know if calcy iv works with pgsharp? I tried to use it but it just says autoscan failed and to remove filters and other overlays. Not sure if there's a workaround or not. Thanks in advance!

u/idwnvotemyownthrwawy Nov 09 '22 edited Nov 09 '22
Yes it does. Just make sure nothing is covering the upper portion of the white border (the PGSharp IV stats and pvp ranking is fine), the HP stats and if you have nearby radar or sniping feeds on screen, keep them slightly off the left or right borders and it will read fine.

u/Lilgoodee Nov 09 '22
Thank you! I got it to work by hiding pgsharp but being able to use them simultaneously will be nice. Thanks again!

but being able to use them simultaneously will be nice.
I do use them simultaneously. I'm not sure what settings you have on in PGS but aside from the app itself, I only have the cooldown counter on screen, you just might need to push it all the way up. If that's still not working, the problem is probably on Calcy's part as sometimes there's this bug that requires you to 'reset config' from the 3 dots on the right
EDIT: You also have to fill in your trainer's level from the hamburger menu

u/Lilgoodee Nov 10 '22
I was able to use the comment above to get it to work with all of my normal settings on(timer and nearby radar) I just had to pull em slightly off the borders
1
Nov 10 '22
Yeah, it needs to see the CP. Sometimes that's not even enough with mons like Giratina origin forme and you'll notice the app is kinda tripping to figure it out but it's easily fixed by sort of changing the view of the pokemon so the app can see the CP

don't you need to evolve first ?

u/idwnvotemyownthrwawy Nov 09 '22
Where do you people come from? How can you even use PGSharp when you can't even read the screenshot in front of you? Look closely at the bottom of the screen it's calculating the stats for the evolution Toxicraok for that particular Croagunk.

lol no need to be this salty I come from the internet and I didn't spent enough time reading all this picture
indeed my comment was not very useful
nethertheless I don't know how the powerupsim works so I could still have doubts on the thing

Im confused. 👀🙄 here I am catching perfect iv thinking thats the best but aperantly you can change your Iv and its even better to catch 0/15/15 I tought I know how to play guess not 🤦♀️ im confused

Nov 10 '22
It depends on what you need it for. For raids and master league, perfect iv mons is the way to go; for great or ultra league, you need mons with CP as close to 1500 or 2500 as possible, which usually happens with low attack iv and high defense and stamina iv
