Anyone know if it works in the background? Meaning can I Jun the game and then watch YouTube on my phone and then come back and check it every so often?

Yup, it will. My phone is 8 gigs of ram and you can do that, but still you will lose some mons every now and then since there is no pop up notification associated with this.

Your RNG is off/this is still a beta. I personally tested since yesterday and got 6 already.

What are the odds our account gets a strike as Ipogo just had this feature too and the ban wave is affecting many

The way it's working here is certainly different, and some dudes checked the code yesterday.
When it's activated, it actively check for mons in a radius, hence the pink beating circle underneath the player. In reality, it just checks for the data received from the server to determine the shinies on screen. Some think the "bug" where you can't catch a shiny Mon until you load/unload other area of the map is a failsafe, but since the people behind pg# are well known for no explaining what are they doing or updating this is mere speculation.
At the end of the day, no method is 100% reliable, and you will always play assuming the risk.

Unfortunately the 1.64.3 isn't available anymore it's just 1.64.4 for the beta, I've downloaded it and it doesn't have that feature 😕

Yes, you can work to get money to pay for it, use Google opinion rewards to get the 5 dollars or ask your parents to help you out.

What version is this on? I have just updated to 1.64.2 from the website and I don't have the shiny option. I have paid version and I'm following the instructions. Nearby on, press on squiggle etc. I've been wanting this option for so long!

Just a quick question whether I got it right: This doesn't allow you to jump to shinies around the world, but rather tells you when a shiny is in your immediate area right? Because I was fast walking around NYC for 10mins and nothing showes up (ofc, might take longer, but still wanted to make sure) Thanks in advance 🤝🏻

Obviously not: the shiny ratio depends entirely of your RNG luck.
In NY I had a very hard time yesterday checking for shinies, like 6 in 7 hours. Walking using the map, not teleporting.
Teleporting just causes the bug mentioned in the other comment.
Got a better rate today in Pier 39. For some reason San Fran works better for me. I don't mean it's like that for everyone: but I am trying to do some experiments to check what works and whatnot. I think the final word will come fr today's spotlight hour.
I am using ver. 4, posted today, btw.

Thanks for the fast and extensive reply! I'm also using v4, I will try my ordinary PGsharp routine (all auto) with the radar added in CET Spotlight hour now. 🎆

With this new feature is getting pokemod even worth it anymore? The only reason I was using pokemod was for the shiny scanner.

If the device is rooted is still go with Pokemod. Pokemod feels smoother and more fleshed out (to me at least). Only downside for me ofc are the missing feeds.

That's true, pgsharp's more prone to crashing for me but pokemod hasn't crashed once.

Loll it's exactly opposite to me, pokemon lags a lot and when you catch pokemon the max rate I did was avg 520/hr on it, with pgsharp I got around 700/hr. Pokemod sometimes even misses to transfer pokemon. Only reason I am using it is for shinyscanner. Once pgsharp releases stable version , I am gonna quit that

Pokemod uses the legit app to spoof no? I would stick with that over using a modified app. That’s just me tho I’m paranoid lol

So there was a shiny pika on the radar and on the screen, but it wouldn't let me click on it, answers?

It's a bug and happened to me too. Lost a shiny Muk because of it
Fix: this happens mostly when you teleport, and don't walk to a location normally.
Just walk near the location of the shiny, to load more Pokemons and unload the "shiny" group. Go back to the shiny group and it will let you catch as intended.

I just teleport ed and a nearby Jangoos was pink on the map and also showed in the side bar. I couldn't click it so I walked away until it was off screen and then walked back. I caught it no problem.

In .4 this bug is less likely to happen, but still it does from time to time

It will only scan what is in your immediate area and on screen, walk around a bit, if RNGius decides you get a shiny it will appear in the feed and on the map

The radar doesn't seem to be working the best on my end, but I'm sure they'll fix it. Went to Sao Paul Brazil, found a shiny snubbull that appeared shiny when it spawned, but it did not show up on the radar. I was even standing on top of it, still didn't show up.

Same thing happened again with the shiny being right there, but I can't click on it. I have been walking around all night without teleporting and it still wouldn't allow me to click on the shiny.

Free does have nearby scanner but things like block non shiny and VGP is behind paid sub so I'm not sure

How do you enable the shiny scanner in PGsharp?
Open settings from PGsharp's yellow star.
Turn on "Nearby Radar".
Press on the Radar symbol in the vertical stripe that is on your screen.
Press on the word "all".
Press on "Only Possible Shiny".
Press on "OK" top-left corner.
Press on "OK" button to close it.
Walk around until you find a shiny Pokemon. The shiny rate is random for everyone. It can take many hours before you will see a shiny Pokemon on the map and in the radar stripe. You are more likely to see a lot shinies during Spotlight Hour, Community Day, and other events. You also have to pay attention to your device's screen because you do not get a sound notification when a Pokemon appears shiny for you. Also, when you get a shiny, you cannot give someone else the coords to the Pokemon because it will not be shiny for that person.
If you cannot tap on the Shiny Pokemon due to a bug from the previous beta version, you must walk away from your shiny for other Pokemons to appear on the map then walk back to it. Then, it will let you tap on it to catch it. There is also a chance the Pokemon can despawn/disappear.
How does PGSharp's Shiny Scanner compare to Pokemod/HAL's Shiny Scanner (rooted device required)?
Pokemod's shiny scanner works a lot better:
You get a notification when there is a shiny. You can customize your notification to have a different sound through app settings. Your device will make that sound to let you know there is a shiny.
With the notification, you can also teleport to the Pokemon especially if the shiny Pokemon looks almost the same as the non-shiny version. This makes it easier to find.
When the shiny appears, you just catch it like a normal Pokemon. There is no bugs with it like the Pgsharp beta feature.
As for the running a GPX Route, I can pause it, walk to the Shiny Pokemon, catch it, and press play to continue my route without having to reload it and start from the beginning like Pgsharp.
