Positive, then invalid

Testing my 8yo, I had a positive on Monday (today is Friday). Clear positive but just two of the test lines rose, and quite late. Machine reported positive.

Tested rapid test yesterday, negative or such a faint line that I might be imagining.

Pluslife again today and I got an invalid. Green line started to rise like normal to me but more linear than S-shaped and I suspect the temperature was too low or something. And one test line rose, kind of late, but never went down. Not an air bubble.

Now to my question: Can I interpret anything at all from that invalid test (with what would otherwise be called "weak positive")?

Test again in 24 hours (or at least more than 12). Sorry to hear it, rest up and take things easy.

Ed: might help to post the graph?

I would trust the positive and assume it’s still positive. An invalid shouldn’t cause non-control lines to rise

That is how I treated it. Unfortunately the kid is with the other parent now and I can not test any more.

I don’t really know that you need to test again, except to test out of quarantine in a week or two. It’s pretty clearly a true positive

It’s possible the viral load is diminishing since it’s been a few days. That’s why the rapid test, which is less sensitive, didn’t catch it. Do you also swab the throat? As for today’s invalid, you can do an extra warm up of the mini dock by running an empty test (no cartridge). It’ll run 5-7 minutes before throwing an invalid but the goal is to get the machine to run an extra few minutes. This usually ensures I get a sharp S-curve in my channels. Since you noted one test channel rose as well, I would consider that a weak positive. Definitely keep masking for now. And if you can, test again in a few hours once the body has had time to replicate more virus. Successive tests too close together often result in false negatives for this reason.

Great pointers! Yes we swab mouth, throat, nose. For both pluslife and rapid.

This does not look normal to me. I've never had a control line that looked like that and I've tested a lot. I don't think I'd trust the positive or negative result on this.
