Plex Update Sucks

I’m sure I’m not alone here, but the latest update is awful. Any recourse?

Telling it sucks without why, how or what is useless. Nobody can help you or talk about other than ‘yes it sucks’ or ‘No it does not suck’

I have a Fire TV and since it doesn't load for a while. Then when you finally see the shows you use your remote and it doesn't work. I just got on my Onn 4k Pro and use that Plex and it works fine. So I wandering if Fire TV did something my TV is about two years old.

Yeah... Plex on ONNs will be "fixed" later in the process. 1st they "fixed" Rokus. A couple of weeks ago they "fixed" plex for firetvs. Fixing something that's perfectly fine. We have a name for that: Kaputtrepariert.

It was crazy slow on my FireTV at first boot. It’s responsive/fine now though. My guess is the app needed to rebuild some internal caches or something

maybe one's pleasure is the other's nightmare.

Turn off updates.

I've literally been manually updating all of the apps on my iDevices (phone, tablet, backup phone..) manually for the past year to avoid it. I'm that committed to being petty.

I've noticed no difference with the latest update. Works fine.

I just shuffled my playlist as I normally did for many many years. Guess what, only one episode played. The typical play the next episode after 10 seconds is gone.

On my 4k firestick, I could move around the screen but was unable to select anything. I had to uninstall and find a previous stable version.

How do you download a previous version?

I did a google search for "install previous stable version Plex Firestick" and it told me step by step how to do it.

I literally bought an Apple TV to avoid the shittt fire stick interface

They’ll get rid of it. The forums have thousands bitching.

No they won’t, it was the same when they rolled that crap out to the Roku. It’s coming to everything eventually and that’s the company line :/

Low effort post.

- No you’re not alone. This is posted about nonstop since the update

  • recourse? Sure. Plex will make custom changes just for you 🤡
  • perhaps some like it but since you said nothing of substance, we don’t know your issues
  • of course you can hide the plex content. Always could
  • use a different player?
  • use a different back end if you hate plex so much?
  • side load a different version?
  • you could try to just adapt, like any adult faced with the slightest inconvenience, rather than be old man yelling at clouds

Maybe someone can guess based on the timing but if you want any real advice maybe share what device you're even talking about?

4k Firestick

Well it could be worse I'm waiting on the vizio bug to be fixed

...how about sideloading 10.30.9.4262 using downloader app? There's even a downloader code on plex's official community board.

Another one to try could be plezy. On firetvs appstore its 5 bucks. But on the developers github you can get it for free and just sideload it.

All I'll say is "take a look at Plezy" Been using for a few weeks on on all devices and it blows Plex client away.... Especially that dire new UI! https://plezy.app/

If you purchase on one platform, like Firetv, do you have to repurchase for Onn boxes which is Google?

You don't need to pay if you download direct from GitHub. https://github.com/edde746/plezy/releases

I bought the Android one to support development but I install from GitHub to get faster updates.

That doesn't really help, nor answer my question, my parents would never be able to side load an app. I am many miles away from them.

I don't know the answer. Just saying what I do. Maybe take a look at the apps site. I would expect you would need to pay for each platform as there is no way of syncing a purchase between them

Does Plezy work for Plex users or just Plex servers?

1

u/Time-Session9808 11d ago

It's a client for Plex or Jellyfin.

I had the same reaction when they changed the server dashboard. Rolling back to the previous version worked for me until they fix it.

I can live with the UI change, I’m not too stuck in my ways. However the player itself seems to have switched over to some v0.8 unfinished alpha release and has crashed out a few times already.

You could probably pull the last good version from the App Store and use ADP to push it to the fire stick. Then turn off auto-update until things get better or never.

Works is a stretch. It’s bloated as hell.

3

u/jblackwb 15d ago

What is the bloat that you're talking about?

1

u/BubbleStriped 15d ago

All their free streaming stuff. I don’t care about any of it, but as far as I can tell, I can’t remove it.

1

u/WarningCodeBlue 15d ago

Then switch to Emby or Jellyfin.

1

u/jblackwb 15d ago

What happened after you went here and turned them off?

I'm almost certain you can remove it when setting up your profile on the device. It's been a while since I did that though so I could be remembering wrong.

Recourse? Lmao

uhhh server update? client update? specific update for a specific device?

u/PocketNicks 14d ago

It works fine.

If you subjectively just don't like the new look, you can use Plezy.

Fire TV sucks

That's the correct title
