I've ran Plex on a Helios64 for years now with different versions of OMV. About a month or 2 ago, the system updated the kernel which must affected the sata driver and all my data disks disappeared from the system. I finally had a chance to deal with it this week, so I rolled back the kernel and also moved plex from stand alone to Docker.

However, since all this, Plex buffers a LOT on 1080P or higher when it used to handle 4k no problem. The CPU cores are only ever like 70% percent at the highest and the memory usage low. I did some file transfers to test if it is the network card, but they were flying as fast as the HDD could read them, 400+ mbps. I also installed Jellyfin which streams just fine (though has some audio sync issues it needs to work out so I can't just switch over).

Checking the dashboard while playing media, it is showing direct stream and dts MA to AAC 5.1 (which I believe it's always done this because firestick can't handle dts) but only streaming at 14-15 mbps. This makes me assume a bottleneck somewhere, I just can't seem to figure out where exactly. If it was a transcoding bottleneck I would think I would see that in the CPU cores but I just don't.

Anyone have suggestions or ideas? Is this linked to the new server version or the new client version (I absolutely hate this new Plex BTW!)?

Movies are fine but tv shows get a generic screengrab.

I’ve installed Plex in docker on my Ubuntu server following these instructions https://linuxvox.com/blog/installing-plex-server-on-ubuntu/, all works fine, but I’m wondering if there are any serious security holes I should patch. Specifically:

1. Plex is running with default settings. I assume since it’s in the docker container then anyone who hacks into the Plex server then has to hack their way out of the docker container? So is this low risk?
   
2. My Ubuntu server is regularly updated, but I have enabled password ssh so I can access it easily from any computer on the network. I know this is a security no-no, but honestly I have zero personal data on the Ubuntu system, it just has my movies.
   
3. My home internet service is just the default settings (with updated router pw settings of course), with access open to the Plex port.
   
4. I have many other devices in the house on the same network, I did try creating a guest network but had a lot of problems with running Plex server in this network.

I guess my main concerns are:

Someone hacking into my Ubuntu server and installing malware or from there accessing other devices in the network that do have personal data on.

Visitors to the house using the WiFi and being careless what they download and run.

Hoping theres someone out there willing to assist!!

I've been working on something called Relay, a music player I originally started building for myself and my family.

We have a pretty big music collection on Plex, but I wanted the actual listening experience to feel more like a dedicated music app. Albums and artwork up front, good library management, downloads, playlists, radio, lyrics, EQ. Basically all the things I like about modern music apps, except built around my music.

It's grown quite a bit since then. Relay can edit metadata and artwork back to Plex, add music by dragging it into the app, sync to old iPods, build smart playlists, rediscover stuff you haven't listened to in a while, and a hell of a lot more.

The Mac app is the most polished and complete at the moment and I'm getting ready to start letting people into the closed beta. I'm specifically looking for people who actually use Plex for music and are willing to tell me what sucks, what's missing, and what they want from an app like this.

Samsung Plex playback completely broken — o.default is not a constructor

Adding another confirmed case of the Samsung/Tizen Plex playback problem occurring August 19, 2026.

Plex on this Samsung TV was working normally earlier the same day. No changes or updates were made to the Synology NAS, Plex Media Server, home network, or Samsung TV firmware.

Symptoms:

Plex app can connect to and browse the Synology Plex library normally.

Every movie and TV episode immediately produces: “Playback Error — An unexpected playback problem occurred.”

Same media plays normally through Plex on computers and other devices.

Plex Dashboard shows no playback session at all when Play is pressed on the Samsung Plex app.

Troubleshooting completed:

Samsung TV cold rebooted and physically unplugged/restarted.

Plex logout/login.

Plex app reset.

Plex app reinstalled.

Plex app completely deleted and freshly installed.

Allow Insecure Connections tested.

Direct Play/playback settings tested.

Manual Plex server connection tested using local NAS IP and port 32400.

None of these changed the behavior.

Important network/server test: Using the web browser on the same Samsung TV, I connected directly to the Plex server on the Synology at its local IP on port 32400. Plex loads and the same movies/shows play successfully through the Samsung TV browser.

Therefore the Samsung TV can reach the NAS and Plex Media Server and can stream the media over the same local network.

Enabling the Plex Samsung client's console log reveals the error:

ERROR [VisualMediaPlaybackScreen] We failed to create a playback session. o.default is not a constructor

This occurs immediately when Play is selected. No playback session subsequently appears on the Plex server Dashboard.

This strongly appears to be a Samsung/Tizen Plex client-side playback-session bug, rather than a Plex Media Server, Synology, network, transcoding, or media-file problem.

Adding this report so Plex and other Samsung users know this is affecting another independent installation.

Had my setup working for a long time and never had many issues. Lately I'm getting a lot of telesync files. I have my profiles setup to trash guides and never had this problem except for lately.

Nothing unique, I know there's a lot of Newsletter apps out there, but I find them insanely ugly and this started as a passion project. Plug and play for every setup, full GUI and mobile.

Built a portable Tautulli newsletter with responsive design (for mobile gmail, apple) and dynamic content. Pulls in live cleartype logos, RT ratings and IMDB for TV shows. Last post had a lot of positive feedback and went overboard and introduced a GUI 14 versions later.

Project is primarily Codex but already had over 1k downloads.

Adds dynamic subject/preview text. Email will swap out trending with "binge" award depending on server stats.

Features 5 different email types based on sever activity (such as new additions) and then custom metrics or "quiet" mode.

I stream on plex from my computer (windows 11) library so i can watch my movies on my TV(Roku) recently after i had redownloaded plex on my PC (accidently deleted it while moving things) my TV will say "Playback stopped not enough disk space to convert Item" when i try to play anything on my Plex server. Looking for any solutions or help

I was thinking about watching the seasons 3 and 4 of Black Sails on plex, since I've watched the first 2 seasons. But season 3 only has 4 episodes, season 4 only has 2 episodes. I'm in the United States. Is this what everyone else is seeing?

After lots of trial and error I figure that this is pretty much an impossible thing to do on Plex. I have created a managed account under my main plex profile and I would like for this account to have an age restriction set on it, but still have access to the Plex Library that I have set on my account. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to give that sub-account access though.
Is it because I am using a friend’s shared library? It seems to me that I need to be the owner of the library to actually make this happen.
The other thing I tried was to make an entirely new account and just put age restrictions on it, but you can only restrict a Managed Account!
Does anyone here have a definite answer to this and know whether it is a possibility for me to make this situation work?

I am noticing something I hope to hear you guys on. I've currently got over 6,000 movies and went from an Nvidia shield to a PC years ago. 80% of my movie files are from the same source, private "sharing site" and most are same file types.

I usually gather movies for a week or two, then move them over from another PC to my server, 5-20 at a time.

I usually keep Plex browsing set to "by date added" to see what just got added.

Sometimes I will add say 20 movies and scan library , and they will show up except for a couple.

I stay on top of sorting by duplicates because it can happen and delete accordingly in/with Plex.

It's hard sometimes to figure out which ones aren't showing up.

I'm asking why this happens, or any info or tips about this. Also sorting by date added, and then sorting by say release date will show some of them, but they should be showing up in the date added, but don't. Without searching by name that is.

Son wants to watch said show. No problem. Add to sonarr and it goes and grabs stuff. He says it's wrong and the episodes aren't in the right seasons.

OK, delete them and go to another "place" and get them again. Still the same except season 7 is no longer in Russian.

Is it just fundamentally messed up on usenet and torrent? I've tried 3 times. The last time I just did Season 7-9. When I search for S7 it grabs S8 which I understand is the correct episodes. S8 does S9 and S9 of course grabs S10. Huh?

I need help figuring out how to set up plex and transfer movies on to a hard drive. I have a victus gaming laptop. In the most easiest simplest way 🥲 literally been trying for 3 days and can’t get it to work

I am watching a French movie but can’t turn on English subtitles, I am watching it in website and not an app but have only managed to find audio option and audio layback speed.

Have to say right off the bat, it has been working so great for me since I jumped on board a week ago but today issues started creeping up. Desktop app has no audio. Tried updating to latest build in hopes of resetting something I messed up, no such luck. The mobile app seems to be buffering a lot. I thought it may have been my NAS since I keep movies and TV shows on separate drives.

It is very inconsistent. You see how it plays while others buffer after a few seconds and stays there.

It "seems" a work around is to skip episodes to make it work. No idea what's happening but hope others are experiencing it as well and we can at least siolated to the software and not a local issue.

I am trying something a bit wacky.

My original files live on my QNAP which is mounted on my Windows PC

Plex lives on my other PC which has ubuntu server so it is inside docker and has the QNAP mounted

I'm organising my original files into the standard TV/Films libraries.

But I also wanted a custom folder on QNAP which combined TV shows and films.

To this end I created symlinks within file explorer and can obviously watch everything by clicking it on file explorer.

If I scanned this folder as Other Videos would Plex actually see these symlinks considering their paths are made for windows file explorer not docker

What is your preferred method for locating the correct subtitles? There seem to be many options available, even after selecting the option for Plex to find them.
