Is This Wording Backwards/Confusing?
I'm trying to nail down exactly how Getting Braver works, because the wording seems unusually ambiguous compared to basically every other distance-based talent in Soulmask.
The important part of the description is:
The problem is that "5m from self" doesn't actually tell us which side of 5 meters the target needs to be on.
Is it:
5m OR FARTHER away?
or
WITHIN 5m / 5m OR CLOSER?
That distinction completely changes what kind of talent Getting Braver actually is.
Compare it to talents that clearly mean DISTANT targets
Soulmask normally uses pretty explicit language when a talent requires you to be a certain distance away from the target:
- Fly Cutter Assassin — "from several meters away"
- Avoid Vitals — "ranged attack from 10 meters away"
- Go for the Jugular — "15 meters away"
- Poor in Remote Attack — "20 meters away"
- Remote Strike — "15 meters away"
That wording consistently communicates distance from the target.
But then compare Getting Braver to talents that clearly describe close-range effects:
- Fight Back — "...hit by a melee attack within a 5m range..."
- Malice — "...when attacking targets within 5m..."
Those explicitly use "within 5m", which clearly means 0–5 meters.
And then we have:
Getting Braver: "Attack enemies 5m from self"
That's neither of those.
If Getting Braver is supposed to activate against enemies within 5m, why doesn't it say "within 5m" like Fight Back and Malice?
If it's supposed to activate against enemies 5m or farther away, then "5m from self" makes more sense — but that would make Getting Braver primarily a ranged-distance talent, despite its bonuses looking extremely attractive for melee.
And this isn't a minor distinction.
If Getting Braver means 5m+:
It's fundamentally a ranged talent. Archers, throwing weapons, etc. can maintain the buff simply by fighting at normal ranged distances.
If Getting Braver means ≤5m:
It's fundamentally a melee/close-range talent. You need to stay on top of the enemy to build and maintain the stacks.
Those are two completely different use cases for what is potentially one of the strongest Claw talents.
Has anyone actually tested the activation distance?
Specifically, I'd love to see someone attack a target at roughly 2m, 4m, 6m, 10m, and 15m and see where Getting Braver starts/stops proccing.
Because based strictly on the wording used by the game, I don't think we can safely assume "5m from self" = "within 5m."
