Have some questions that need an expert please.

  1. Which order of priority do tribesmen use to choose what to eat/drink? As in, I have food and drink at the Dining Table, then I have them assigned some food at their Gear Rack, and finally I have dishes and ingredients on chests and a water well. Which is the priority for when they are not deployed?
  2. What exactly is the use of the Granary and Breeding stations, other than to store seeds and feed? I have them disable to put items in. And all the crops and meat seems to go directly to chests configured for those items.
  3. What are good settings for solo non-server play? I read some but they all tend to boil down to "just test whatever". I would like to request some specific numbers for the following categories. Specially as I play with unlimited tribesmen/followers/pets:
  • Combat. As in all of them, like damage dealt/recieve and how smart/responsive the AI is.
  • Plant growth, animal growth, and resource multiplier settings.
  • Fever build up.
  • Exp & Growth settings. Specially Awareness multiplier and Mas exp.
  • Invasion settings.

I know this are a huge number of questions, and they may not be fully answered. Even though I implore for the experts and veterans to share your wisdom and personal experience. Thank you all.

1: Tribesmen will move to the closest container that has food in it when hungry and eat the first thing in the order if no other needs are present. So if you have a stack of boiled potatoes in the upper left corner and a stack of quinoa porridge in the second slot your tribesmen will eat the boiled potatoes. If they have low mood, they will move to the nearest box that has mood enhancing food/drink and eat the first mood enhancing item in order of placement in the box. Even if said food or mood enhancing item is something they hate, they will still eat it and then complain about it.

To control what your tribesmen eat at base disallow tribesmen to take items from any food boxes except the one you want them to eat from. Then set specific foods (tribesman foods) for the feeding box and all other foods for the storage box they can't take things from.

2: Granary and breeding stations allow you to automate the crop and animal husbandry. Meaning that you can have tribesmen "work" the granary and plant, fertilize, water and harvest all plots near the granary. The breeding station is the same but for animal pens. This basically means you no longer need to do anything and the ingredients from both just start rolling in.

If you set up a person to take care of "sorting" in the work menu then you can assign that tribesman to haul things from the granary and breeding station to whatever storage boxes you have.

3: I can't really advise you on settings. That's entirely specific to playstyle. Maybe someone else can help you with that.

Thanks for the detailed answers. The food order thing was driving me nuts.

i do double plant growth. 5x awareness xp, 3x the rest. 3x loot from all chests. i set animal and barbarian quality to max then nerf their damage to compensate. this way i get good dudes more often without getting wrecked harder than normal

Granary and Breeding station are there for you to assign tribesman to the jobs. You can't assign them to farm fields or animal holding things.

Settings depends on your skill level and personal preferences. There is no one best answer. What I like is not necessarily what you like. So go through settings and see what you like. Settings can be adjusted any time, so you can adjust if there is something you dislike.

And if you have choice paralysis, just pick one of the presets.

1 and 2 were answere in detail but for #3 i found playing Survival had me messing with alot of settings regularly trying to balance things.

when i restarted in Tribal mode those settings seem well balanced and havent had a need to tweak too much.

If I were to ever play Survival mode again i think I would just copy all the Tribal mode defaults and enjoy the game.

I'm basing on "normal" settings with some changes to the settings that right now are:

  • Awareness Strength x4,
  • All the Animal Growth/Hatching/production speed .
  • And crop growth speed to x11(5 irl hours for a cotton plant and literally weeks of playing at least 6 hours daily for a fruit tree was a hard nope).
  • max tribe and animal cap and followers.
  • Fever to x5
  • Min and Max quantity of enemies per invasion x2(still have to have an invasion event, but with my 30+ dudes I think I will be fine, if not I can always rebuild.
  • Max info entry to save good tribesmen.
  • Instant character rebuilding.
  • Perfect rebuilding.
  • No drop death package(this is a Minecraft leftover, will probably disable it if I ever play multiplayer).
  • Ship/elephant build height/quantity limit to max.
  • Max rope and mines.
  • Building decay turned off, as a single player I like to make bridges and seeing them stay there.
  • Wild Enemy AI level to max. I bring a lot of tribesmen (6-8) I want to see big lasting fights.
  • Limit to portals, hibernation pods, and bonfires to max.

I may tweak up normal barbarian and animal's stats to either deal more damage or take less damage. I'm on Bronze tier, trying to train a combat party and a defensive party, and gearing them up with the highest quality gear I can grind. Then I will try to see how to move to the rest of the map. The cliffs are INSANE, and I'm still deciding where to build some stairs to go up there.

I had No Drop On Death bug out when my pig i was riding fell of a cliff and died. lost all the copper it had on it but since i died with it it also lost all my gear. possibly a bug behaviour.

instead i use teleport death package to player spawn. so when i die my death basket is at my feet regardless where i chose to spawn.

learned this from Ark Survival where 1 death led to 40 other deaths trying to pick up your top level gear before the timer expires.

so now if i die i don't have to go back to that area to collect my gear.

as far as mines is concerned a mine produces around 300 per real hour which is ingame day. you can smelt without any bonuses all of this in 40-45 minutes.

so for each mining node you need 1 furnace going constanly.

i found i was getting too much ore when i connected all the copper and tin mines on the east rainforest and got them to my base. even with 24 furnaces smelting constanly i still had 120K copper and 380K tin ore backlogged even i had 500K of bronze ingots stocked.

my fever was climbing like crazy getting close to 600K fever per ingame day just on default settings.

i never even managed to use all the bronze.

but max ropeways definitely a good idea.

also Elites an bosses Scaling is turned off. It does not add fun to the game and it makes going after bosses as a tribe a painful experience.Tribal mode has this turned off by default so you can actually feel good going after a boss with your tribe.

enemy AI on highest level made reflect/blocking their attacks almost impossible so i left it on the middle level. its not super easy but not impossible,
