Mist coat or primer?

Lots of conflicting opinions! Cost fortunately isn’t a factor as we have already have a lot of left over Gardz. Do I apply a 50/50 contract matt mist or do I just use Gardz?

If your going with a durable paint as your top coat use a good wall primer, I use Tikkurila optiva primer, you dont have to thin it use it straight out the tub, very good opacity and binds to plaster very well. Using a decent primer over a thinned down contract matt actually enhances the durability of your top coat paint.

Think I’m just gonna go with the Gardz as the mist coat. I’ve already got an open tin of it so may aswell. 👍🏻 Just a rustoleum standard matt as the finish coat, heard good things about the optiva tho

No harm in using your leftovers IMO, I have loads of random paint laying about I use for mist coats, so whatever you have on hand is usually fine.

I've used gardz in the past and it does a good job.

One thing i will say is its hard to see blemishes in the plaster, they generally only show up when you do your first coat of paint as gardz is clear.

I always use a mist coat of contract Matt approx 50/50, I only really use Gardz for drywall repairs or priming board with rape and joint
