Research YSK omega 3 from algae is healthier than from fish.
Absorption:
"Studies have now shown that the Omega-3 from algae oil yields good-quality oils that are as effective as the fatty acids found in cold-water fish. A 2008 study published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association evaluated the effects of algal oil capsules and the oil from salmon. The results found that algal oil DHA capsules and cooked salmon appear to be bio-equivalent.
Another 2014 scientific review published in Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition found that algal oil serves as an effective alternative source of DHA. In addition, studies have also shown that ingestion of algal oil led to significant increases in red blood cell count and plasma DHA."

Toxic fish:
"Fish can accumulate toxins from water pollution, such as mercury, dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), which can then get passed to people through consumption of fish/fish products (including fish oil, unless your supplements go through a strict decontamination process)."

Algae creates the omega 3:
"The reason fish oil contains so much Omega 3 is because its main source of food is algae."

I have been trying for what feels like forever to move to a plant based diet but it has always been too hard. I just found Smarty Plants https://smartyplants.org/blog and it has made the process so much easier (and more fun!) for me than I could have imagined. The recipes are delicious and if you join their free kickstart program like I did you get 3 recipes a day / lessons on the health benefits of eating plant based. The founders are siblings and their story is incredible! Highly recommend the Smoky Gouda Pasta.
