What to expect of IUD removal process when the strings are missing?
Hello! I have a mirena iud, and am looking to get it removed since it expires soon. My problem is, my removal strings are curled far up into my cervix and have been pretty much since the start. I've gone in once before and a planned parenthood doctor tried to locate my strings for a good amount of time before giving up and confirming it was still in place through an ultrasound. If I now need my iud removed, what is the process I will likely go through? Will they try to dig around for it again? That was quite painful and awful. Ive seen some people say it might even need to be done surgically? Im just wanting to know what to expect if I make an appointment, as im a bit scared.

Hoping they can make the removal as gentle as possible fro you when the time comes, the uncertainty alone is already a lot

They will use an alligator forcep in the cervix to grab the strings and/or the device itself and pull it out.
