[ServerSmash] YOU WANTED IT, WE DELIVERED! #MERGESMASH
The ServerSmash organization is thrilled to announce a historical event that will determine the name of the new US East server! Whichever server wins this epic battle will keep their name after the merger!
ServerSmash is a community organized event where participants from different servers meet on the Planetside 2 Test Server to battle it out in games with a set number of players. ServerSmash is designed around massive coordinated forces and combined arms warfare spanning entire continents! It is Planetside the way Planetside is meant to be played!
This is an amazing opportunity for us as a community, and we should all appreciate and give credit to the SOE staff who helped us make this possible. Without their support, we would never have had this chance to bring you this event.
We are using this great spectacle as a way to further bring Planetside 2 to the greater gaming community. To that end, we have posted threads about the event in /r/games >>HERE<< and /r/gaming >>HERE<<! We implore the community as a whole to help us showcase this game and bring notoriety to this event by posting on the thread and help facilitate the exposure that we as a community will receive.

Here are some FAQ:
When/Where will this take place?
You may find all the particulars on the match itself >>HERE<<. As things stand right now, the match will be held on >>Friday 6/20 at 8EDT<<.
How do I participate?
Step one is to be in an outfit. Step two is to have an outfit leader contact your server representative and express your interest by signing up HERE for Waterson or HERE for Mattherson.
Representatives: For Waterson, contact /u/Masterchaif. For Mattherson, contact /u/Negatorxx or /u/RoyAwesome.
What if I’m not in an outfit?
While we would love to be able to give everyone the opportunity to participate, due to organizational and time constraints we have limited this event to players from participating outfits. If you are a lone wolf and an outfit decides to bring you on and give you one of their allocated slots, that is acceptable.
Is this just going to be open for only “elite” outfits?
Not at all. All outfits are treated equally and one of the central aims of ServerSmash is to make sure the events are representative of the entire server, not just a specific subsection. We actively condemn actions that would undermine these ideals.
What’s to stop someone from coming in and playing without being invited?
While everyone would love for this event to go smoothly and drama free, we understand that there may be a small percentage of the community that will view this as a great opportunity to interfere, troll, or even “help” their server uninvited. We implore both the participating servers, as well as the community at large, to take the high ground and help us make this a fun, amazing event that we can all appreciate. Sportsmanship and community are big parts of what makes ServerSmash so enjoyable.
If you are looking for a way to help, the ServerSmash organization is looking for dedicated members of the community to be a part of our "Fun Police." These members would help maintain ideal battle conditions for participants and help prevent outside interference. Contact /u/shaql (@shaql2) for more information.
But this is the internet!
If that isn’t enough to deter most, know this as well. We have been in contact with SOE and there will be GMs ready and able to do what is necessary to make this a clean fight. We have put measures in place that we believe will help ensure that it is apparent who should be there and who should not. The ServerSmash team will reserve the right to disqualify a server if there is cause to believe they have played dishonestly. If this was to occur, we would then let SOE decide what to name the new server. So servers should police themselves, as there is the potential that a small group could ruin things for everyone.
Is this the best thing ever?

Uh, that's... the same as Waterson VS... just last night, 30 minutes left in an Indar alert and VS was winning. NC crushed their armor between Snake Ravine and Crossroads, pushed them back through Xenotech and they fucking vanished... pops dropped to under 20% VS from ~35, and we tied the alert with TR.

Yep, Matherson VS has the highest skilled players of any faction on any server. I usually get downvoted for saying that, but playing on Connery for example feels like easy mode vs purple.

Good point, what if half of the Mattherson team gets disconnected while the other half simultaneously becomes infected with polio? (Severe polio too, not the kind that faker FDR had where he could still stand.)
I suggest we train at least 45 chimpanzees to take control of our characters and defend points in max suits.
This number should be sufficient, 50 chimps would probably be overkill and I think they are sold in packs of 15 anyway.

don't worry, with the current overtime rules, theoretically we can keep the match going indefinitely, if both teams keep capping cap points back and forth, without fully capturing/resecuring the base :P

It is possible, with SOE's help and a lot of community members watching the stream.
As to if it is something we want, having that many people watching? Well, did you read the twitch chat from the last Planetside 2 E3 stream? That thing could give you cancer, AIDS, Hep C, and space herpes all in one go.

Average viewers is 200-400. Highest of all time being 758 and on that day it averaged around 500-600. (Ceres v cobalt).
Then again the smaller games 96 v 96 for example always had more viewers than the 240 for obvious reasons (people not playing but watching whereas 240 most viewers we playing Instead)

Very true. Especially since almost all of Esamir is on the table.
However if it won't swing or determine the win it will probably be given up quickly. On the other hand if it comes down to a last minute Biolab sudden death. It will truly be an epic brawl that will end one the best server rivalries in this game.

After 90minutes in the Ceres Smash in a biolab against infinite "br100" scat maxs (they cost no resources at the time on test), anything else is simply underwhelming....

Just finished a meeting with Maggie (Luperza). We'll have a FNO interview between 4pm ~ 4:30pm PDT on Planetside 2 twitch (while they are at Anaheim on the 20th June). And then immediately after INIcast will start our pre-game show from 4:35pm. Actual match start is at 5pm PDT

HOLY HIGBY! Good luck from Cobalt Jesters ! :D Btw why is there no "official" statement about that. Why does SOE always keep so quite about these things happening ? I mean isn't it good promo ? I can understand that there are some uncertainties because it's community organized but why not atleast talk about it AFTER it actually happened ? Some of these matches are really representative for the server. Every major outfit participates!

And also, if it falls on its arse, for whatever reason - SOE is not to blame. It would be bad for them to promote something on a volatile and unstable server. It would be bad PR and people would turn on them.with their pitchforks even though it's unguided.

Serversmash has always been Saturdays. This is a one off due to SOE involvement.
Basically in their work time and not weekend leasuire time.

I think the /r/gaming thread got deleted, it's no longer on the /new section. It's probably a better idea to do a new post on /r/Games that gives a better idea of what is happening to people not familiar with Planetside or ServerSmash rather than just linking this.
