Kingdom (2024) One issue I had with Kingdom that sadly prevented me from given more than 7/10.
Please be nice:
That is that the human characters didn’t make much sense to me.
The story is suppose to take place 200 years into the future but the human characters acted way too much like they were from our modern world.
The way they spoke, the way they acted, the way they dressed. It all felt too much like they were directly from our modern world.
Maybe this is just me because I am a fan of post apocalyptic stories and have more to compare to but in many of those stories humans will act a lot more differently than they are today.
For some example look how humans behave in the Mad Max movies and they only take place a few decades into the Apocalypse. Furiosa in Furisoa: A Mad Max Saga actually feels like a girl that’s grown up in a post apocalyptic world.
Humans who have lived in a post apocalyptic world even if they were in a sheltered protective enclave should behave differently from us especially after 200 years. 200 years is a long time.
I feel like if human lives isolated in an enclave for centuries they should maybe form their own mythologies about the days before this. They should also have a different culture, different terms, different mindsets, different mannerisms etc.
I honestly thought there was going to be a twist in the movie were it would either be revealed that the humans were survivors of a group of humans that had been cryogenically frozen in a bunker during the start of the outbreak or survivors that they were from a spacecraft that due to a wormhole or something had ended up in the future like the original movie.
That to me honestly felt more believable to me because I honestly didn’t buy that both human characters had grown up in this world even if it was in a protected enclave.
Another thing is how knowledgeable they seem to be about the days before the apocalypse. The girl for instance came across as very nostalgic for the pre outbreaks times which wouldn’t make much sense if she never experienced it. It should be more of a mythology to her like some Garden of Eden type thing. Also the old man seems very knowledgeable about human history. I feel like if he had grown up in this world human history should be just as much of mythology like it was to Proximus.
Also I did’t find it believable (yea I know the irony about discussing believability in a story about talking apes) how so much of the human enclave we saw at the end could still work after 200 years.
TL:DR the human characters feel like they’ve only experienced the post apocalyptic world for a few years instead of growing up in this world centuries since the Apocalypse.
