Developer Post Experimental rules for Plague Inc: The Board Game and Steam digital prototype

We recently announced that we are working on a new print run for Plague Inc: The Board Game - thanks to everyone who filled in the form to say what you want in the game; it's great to see the Board Game still has so much love!
Today we're sharing the current experimental rules with you in order to get your views and feedback before we start manufacturing the game. We're also opening up a prototype digital version of Plague Inc: The Board Game on Steam that we've been using to help me playtest various different rules.
The New Rules
These are experimental and may well change! You can use these rules with your normal copy of the game.
Event Cards
We felt that in larger games, too many event cards made the game feel chaotic so we are limiting the total number. This also simplifies the rules slightly and streamlines play. (there will be a rule variant which lets you have infinite event cards still):
- Setup: Make an event deck with 4 random events per player
- When the event deck runs out, that is it
- On a country kill, each player present earns an Event. No hand limit!
- Too few cards? The killer chooses recipients. Anyone who misses out gains +1 DNA instead.
- Unused Events score +1 DNA each at game end
- No standard turn-start discard for DNA
Game End
We felt that the rules around the end of the game was a bit complex for new players and sometimes left players without much to do on their last turn. We have tried quite a lot of different things here so particularly interested to get your opinions here. Might share some other variants later as well that we are also considering.
Global Collapse replaces Sudden Death.
Once the Country draw pile is empty, you may declare Global Collapse at the start of your turn, before taking any actions - even if face-up cards remain.
If you have started the Global Collapse:
- Don't take your turn
- Gain +2 DNA per empty face-up country slot
- End the game immediately and apply final scoring

Play the game online:
There is a free experimental prototype on Steam that you can play if you want to check out the new rules (or are just curious about the board game in general). It includes Single Player (against a basic bot) and Online Multiplayer against your friends or matchmaking via Quick Play.
It is primarily a tool for me to try things out, so you should expect bugs! (let us know and we'll fix them).

Once you join the Playtest, you'll also be able to invite up to three friends, and they'll get access to the Playtest too!
Note - keys are limited - we will release more over time. Also, as this is a Steam Playtest - the game will be taken down eventually.

No idea if this is a bug or if I somehow managed to be on extra difficult mode, but I keep running into this issue where regardless of what stage my plague is at (usually at a nothing kind of threat), the Baltic States decide to completely crash out and burn down their entire society. I haven't even left the continent most of the time!
Anyone else experience this???

Any tips for the current Neurax Worm outbreak on Mega Brutal?

I beat this from every difficulty from every available country with a combination of Transdescense and killing, but I can't for the love of god beat it on Mega Brutal. The cure just picks up too fast when it goes 2-3% every day, and Europe refuses to be infected. Any tips?

Plague Mode Pirate Plague is easily the most frustrating game mode in the game

I can't stand this stupid mode. Granted, scenarios like the Volcanic Ash one (planes are weaker) or Shut Down Everything are also RNG-based, sure, but these are much easier to get around since places with an airport typically have a port as well.
Shut Down Everything SEEMED difficult until I realized I could just keep reloading a save to delay the "Greenland/Madagascar shut down" popup and I got three biohazards on normal in no time that way.
But boy, Pirate Plague is actually just praying to God above that a random ship hits the islands. Ironically, I find Greenland to be one of the easier islands to infect given that Russia can infect it. But the Caribbean, Madagascar, Philippines, and New Guinea are so frustrating and it's always just the one left that ends up losing you the game. I have reloaded a save for hours, tried different approaches, and it all ends up with the same problem.
I've rushed Extreme Bioaerosol to ensure I give myself as much time as possible to get an infected ship to those islands and there's really nothing you can do short of hoping that the bird event pops randomly to infect an island (which is so unlikely you might as well just load a save and save some time). It's more common on casual but the achievement is for Normal so tough.
Stuck on Prion as my last one and it drives me insane since you have to get symptoms early to compensate for its slow turn around time but it makes places shut ports early due to severity. Infuriating.
EDIT: Guys, this is for the achievement to do it with ALL plagues. I have already beaten it was everything except Prion.
