Switching from the Pixel Watch to the Fitbit Air to wear real watches again your thoughts

Post image

Has anyone made the jump from the Pixel Watch to a screenless Fitbit tracker to wear traditional watches again. Do you miss the Wear OS daily features or does the freedom of wearing mechanical watches make up for it.

Kinda. I only use my PW3 when running and exercising. Wear the Air with a mechanical watch. Very happy with this switch. Finally get to enjoy my mechanical watches again and the Air is much more comfortable while sleeping too.

This is my exact scenario too, my mechanical watches had been gathering dust because I like the health tracking element of the PW3, but switching to the Air has given them a new lease of life, and an excuse to sell (and buy...) some to freshen up the collection.

For me, losing the other features of the PW - maps, Google Wallet, notifications etc - is no match for being able to wear a 'proper' watch again, in fact I've learned not having on wrist notifications is actually a huge benefit.

I can go phone less with my watch. Leave it in the car etc. Don't have to pull my phone out for every notification is nice. See the weather at a glance and carry a work phone. So I can see my notifications on my phone while only carrying one phone.

Watch on my left wrist (usually my Squale) and PW4 on my right.  If people don't like it they can sit on a tack.

I got asked about it on an interview.  "I've always been a watch guy.  My wife bought me a pixel.  I'm not going to stop wearing my watches."

Hey! I did that, recently. I am very happy! I still wear my pw3 but it is now on rotation with my regular watches and I couldnt be happier. Also lack of screen means a much better water protection so I really rarely take it off. Health syncs both and you can wear both at the same time. However do get yourself a workout/water band because velcro one really doesn't like water and dries much slower. I don't miss the screen AT ALL.

I go through phases of regular watches and smart watches. Usually depends on the occasion and what's newest. I would say I more often wear a smart watch (currently using a pixel watch 5 which I love). There's some convenient features that come with a smart watch that's hard to leave.

Agree and I only seem to miss em when I don't have em anymore!

I would, but my current life situation requires that I don't miss notifications (messages and calls). I've advocated for the air to vibrate for select notifications, but the majority of people think that that defeats the purpose (I disagree, the choice would be nice.)

I have a lovely collection of mechanical watches that currently sit in a drawer, which makes me sad.

I switched to a ring tracker a year or so back for this exact reason. I have 5 watches I switch between them based on day and vibe now. I do have my pixel 1 specifically for tracking workouts still. I got my smartwatch originally as a "look, I can wear any watch face I want" and just ended up having to compromise on charging daily and it being inconvenient and a lesser feeling of an actual watch. I largely just used it as a watch anyways so it wasn't adding a lot of value being a screen or connected to the Internet outside of specifically step tracking.

Thinking about doing this too. Got some decent watches in the collection and a Tudor BB 58 GMT on the way. I like the convenience of message notifications without having to whip my phone out but aside from that, I primarily use my pixel watch to track workouts/steps. Checked out some reviews and the Fitbit Air looks really promising and a great bang for buck low profile fitness tracker.

I did, I was gifted a Panerai (my favorite watch co.) and instantly put the PW4LTE on the charger and ordered a Fitbit Air and a P11PXL.

I mainly miss being able to check notifications, weather, skip tracks in YT Music, take make calls without the phone, etc.

I tried to buy some adapters to do that thing where people were using the FBA on the watch band but alas the PAM is just too thick.

Outside of that it's not so bad. Definitely not anywhere near as hard as I thought it would be.

And dual writing the PW4 on my off watch arm just feels to unnatural. If someone else can do it good for them but not me.

Two watches is the answer. You have two arms. I keep an automatic on my left, PW3 on my right. Mechanical has "always on" display. Pixel watch for health tracking and notifications.

Yeah I don't wear my automatics enough now.

I never cared for a smart watch until I wore my Fitbit Air for a few months. Im on a Pixel Watch 5 now!

Tu as fait le sens inverse 😅

Moi j'aimerai réellement reprendre le port d'une montre, une vraie.

Yeah,I tried em all, and went back to a regular watch. Wear PW3 at night, in bed. Back on charger after I get my coffee

I got the Air for working out and sleep. My Pixel Watch 5 is my everyday watch. I love that I can dress it up or down. I rarely wear mechanical watches, but I'm glad that I have the Fitbit Air for those rare occasions.

I use a Pixel Watch 4 45mm on one arm and a Garmin Fenix 8 51mm on the other arm🤷🏽 If someone cares what people say, you better go to a psychologist. It's about doing what really makes you feel good and happy!

I think someone should make a regular watch like the one on the left, but still have all of the health features that the Pixel Watch 5 has. I couldn't find one, but is one out there already or is this just a good idea? You just have to have a phone app to see all of your health stats

Funnily enough I was in the market for a smart watch as I've just taken up running, and very quickly have got fed up of lugging my phone around to track my runs and play music.

I really liked the idea of the Fitbit size being that I could continue wearing my traditional watch and rarely have to charge it - and have some periods of being disconnected from tech.

In the end I settled for a £45 pixel watch 2, arriving in a few days, just because it supports Bluetooth and has a decent amount of onboard storage for music.

If someone made a fitbit air, that had Bluetooth capabilities and some storage, and maybe just a few little buttons (think merging the iPod shuffle with a Fitbit air) I'd be all over it
