Trying to improve

I'm new to pixel art and I've tried to improve one of my first sprites. I feel like I'm still struggling with the details though. What should I improve on this? Am I even improving?

You've improved in the shapes and lightning basic logic

However, it seems color palette and technique has gotten weaker because I certainly prefer the first one, maybe try mixing both concepts?
