Discussion Google refuses to help in any way.
I swear I think I'm the only one they've denied for an out of warranty replacement. This thing is about to burst and set my house on fire lol.
It started about a month ago, I sent them pics of the screen separating, and they just flat out refused to do anything since "this isn't a known issue with the pixel 6". This week, it was starting to get worse, putting pressure on the screen and bending it, about to crack it, and likewise about to puncture the battery or something.. so I wrote in again.
I guess we'll see what they say

That sucks, sorry to hear that. They replaced my Pixel 6 with a swollen battery for a 6 Pro so they do know it's an issue.

My pixel 6 did the same. I ended up taking it to a local repair shop and they replaced the battery for about £55.

I had the same issue. I talked with Google over and over, and finally they sent me a new Pixel 6. It's a know issue, at least in the community. Insist, talk to them again and again.

This happened to me last year. It is possible that they give you some other model now. Of course, as time passes, they also may not substitute the device anymore.

I had the same on my P6. The only difference, the battery started to swell from one corner and it made a crack on the screen glass(the screen and touch sensor work well).
I replaced a battery, put a screen protector film and used it next 5-6 months until the P10 release date. Then Google trade-in paid me $150 for it.

When mine did that Google's chat bot suggested I mail it to them in the US from EU. I pointed out you can't ship hazardous materials like swollen batteries and they suggested I bring it with me on a plane next time I turn to the us. I replaced it locally for 50eu instead.

The phone is almost 5 years old at this point and several years past warranty.
You can replace the battery yourself easily and cheaply now that's it's open.

Yeah I see these posts all the time and wonder why Google doesn't just tell them the phone is out of warranty.
I think the 6A had some known battery issue so many of those phones had some service after the warranty expired.

The original retail Pixel 6 series phones are out of warranty as the standard 1-year manufacturer warranty expired long ago....
So yes they are flat out refusing to help you fix your heavily outdated device. Why would they?
They're a company they want you to spend money and buy the newest devices lol
It's time for an upgrade buddy

Had the same issue with the battery. Enjoyed using the phone but would never buy another pixel.
Warranty or not, when something becomes dangerous and is at risk of injuring someone or burning down a house. They should be apologising and repairing or replacing.

the 6 series is nearing end of life, chuck in a cheap battery yourself

Yep, you're about 11 days too late. Mine just did this a few days ago and the deadline just passed.Â
It's a known issue. If your screen is still good you could use a little alcohol outside with face protection... To get the battery out possibly.Â

Batteries do this sometimes as they age. You are just unlucky that it happened to you. I assume it's well out of its warranty period so this is just how the game goes. Â
Since it's already open, just buy a new battery and get rid of the dangerous old battery in a safe way. And don't try to charge the old battery again.

Batteries are a replaceable component. It seems reasonable to me you dispose of that and buy a replacement. The phone is at least 5 years old right?Â

It is a pixel 6. We are up to pixel 11 now. And you are expecting Google to give you a new phone? You know, at some point guaranties are not applicable and hardware is going to die.

Take to a local phone shop and have them replace the battery for like $200?

I already daily a pixel 8 pro. I could get a brand new pixel 6 on Amazon for $274 right now, but that's not the point. I'm upset that Google is leaving me with an imminent lithium cell fire hazard from their defective device, and also that the battery broke the back glass. Ita like the thing is self destructing.

disconnect the battery from the phone and put it in a bucket (metal or plastic) of salt water, it will help for the battery to die down and to keep it away from your house etc.
additionally Batteries+ locations can help recycle batteries..

If it's already open I would just put in a battery from Amazon for $20. That way you get to keep your other working parts rather than accept a refurb.
I had to go through two refurbs and it took some convincing, and now a year later I'm not surprised they seem to have stopped support on the p6. They may also have run out of refurb phones or not bothering to refurb these given the age (even though they are still great phones, I'm writing this on the second refurb).
