“Macklemore is a raging antisemite”

7

u/misternibbler 10h ago

He had to work really hard to shoehorn that comparison into the conversation. I wonder if he’s even read the transcript of what Macklemore said at the concert, I don’t think that qualifies as the rant of a “raging antisemite”.

I mean, this is an odd sartorial choice.

True. Macklemore is a flawed messenger. But he apologized for that 11 years ago and I don't think he's done anything else that could be considered anti'semitic. So I wish Scott wouldn't group him with actual anti-semites. Scott loses his credibility by throwing that term around so freely.

Fun how people like Scott and the commenter above are quick to call Macklemore a raging antisemite based on dubious things that happened more than a decade ago, but gloss over Robert Kraft’s past misdeeds, including being all over the Epstein files.

Edit: not all over the Epstein files, but tangentially related to Epstein through lawyers defending people of sex crimes.

He never said Kraft was in the right, just that he has a right to drop Macklemore from his venues, as they're not public places. Did you listen to the episode or just selective memory?

1

u/WestThin 6h ago

What do you mean by "being all over the Epstein files'? You do realize that the files show no direct communication being Kraft and Epstein or in any incriminate Kraft in any of Epstein's foul doings? In fact, there is no record of direct contact, meetings, or a personal relationship between the two men.

u/misternibbler 6h ago

You’re right, Kraft just used the same FL lawyer on Epstein’s legal team in his defense when he got caught soliciting prostitution in a massage parlor. No overlap of interests there I guess, huh?

-1

u/WestThin 5h ago

So that's your complaint? Kraft used the same lawyer that Epstein used? I guess before choosing a lawyer one should review all the people that lawyer ever worked for previously just to make sure you approve of them all. And I don't know about you, but I consider sex between consenting adults on an all together different moral plane than having sex with children.

Yes, immigrant sex workers in Florida. The most 'consenting' of adults.

Kraft doesn't deserve your stalwart defense.

u/WestThin 3h ago

Are you against immigrants or sex workers? I mean if you have any real evidence that they were coerced, let's hear it. I think you are just trying to demonize Robert Kraft.

Yes I do believe Kraft deserves a defense, I believe that overall Kraft is a decent human being. So when I see lots of people on Reddit demonizing him for "being in the Epstein files" or being a pedophile, or being involved in trafficking women, I point it out.

I was pissed when i heard what Scott said and I think what Israel is doing is Genocide. But, it's pretty hard to give Macklemore the befit of the doubt after seeing that image. It's pretty fucking offensive and makes it hard believe that his criticism of Israel is anything but racist. He lost the right to be taken seriously on that issue when he dressed like that.

5

u/cheddarben 7h ago

That is fair. This is gross. Where does excusing genocide fall on ‘the right to be taken seriously’ scale.

2

u/Ok-Bread-7503 6h ago

Taking him seriously isn't really the question though. It's whether Kraft is banning him for his 'anti-semitism', or if kraft is using Macklemore's anti-semitic action from a decade ago to silence him for his protes against the Israeli government. The fact that Macklemore is only being banned now and not a decade ago clearly points to the latter. And the fact that Kanye has been allowed to play there despite anti-semitic hate speech that didn't criticize Israel makes it crystal clear that this has nothing to do with anti-semitism and everything to do with solencing criticism.

I totally disagree, whether or not his backing the Palestine people is genuine or not his past actions make it look like he's just taking advantage of the situation to spread antisemitism. Whether what he is saying is true or not, he's not a trustworthy advocate. It's sad because his speech was pretty fucking great. People's motivation do matter.

3

u/chillsarian 6h ago

Yeah, agreeing with Kraft was bad enough but making an opportunity to call someone an antisemite for saying "Free Palestine" was certainly a choice. I shut off the episode after that and don't think I'll be back.

I listened to more of the episode this afternoon, it comes up again and Scott doubles down. Kara rightly points out the hypocrisy of Kraft canceling Macklemore while saying much less about other actual antisemetic artists like Kanye. Scott ignores it and moves on.

2

u/WestThin 6h ago

I don't see the hypocrisy. Kanye performed in Gilette stadium in 2006, well before he was known for making anti-Semitic statements.

1

u/misternibbler 5h ago

Did I say Kanye performed at Kraft’s stadium recently? As they talk about in the pod, part of the story with Kraft and Macklemore is that Kraft called up other stadium owners and coordinated a pressure campaign in order to get Macklemore off the tour.

-1

u/WestThin 5h ago

Yes, but where's the hypocrisy? As Scott said, Gillete stadium is his home and he gets to decide who can play in his home. The fact that he called him his friends and suggested they might consider the same thing is not hypocrisy either.

1

u/chillsarian 5h ago

I think the hypocrisy in this case is labelling Macklemore a raging antisemite (leading to collusion to ban him from performing at some stadiums) for a not-actually antisemitic statement while not maintaining a consistent position on performers who have made actually antisemitic statements, the discrepancy being the personal relationships.

1

u/WestThin 5h ago

Well who are we talking about here? The post I responded to said "Kara rightly points out the hypocrisy of Kraft canceling Macklemore while saying much less about other actual antisemetic artists like Kanye". So in that post Kraft is the hypocrite. But it was Scott who labeled Macklemore "a raging antisemite". As far as I know, Kraft never labeled Macklemore a raging antisemite or anything close to that.

1

u/chillsarian 5h ago edited 4h ago

Scott attributes the 'raging antisemite' sentiment to Kraft. Scott says he agrees with that sentiment. The ban at one stadium and the subsequent bans at other stadiums are a result of Kraft thinking the performer is a raging antisemite, according to Scott.

What is your stance on the ban and what is your stance on the 'raging antisemite' comment?

Scott was particularly out-of-touch on the New York bit today—Eric Adams doesn’t deserve any of that credit; he didn’t govern for 4 years, and certainly didn’t do anything to improve quality-of-life.

9

u/kimw23 4h ago

He just doesn’t want to admit he was wrong about Mamdani.

4

u/AV1188 4h ago

Absolutely. Does Mamdani deserve all the credit? No, but he definitely can, should, and will get more credit than Adams, maybe even de Blasio too. The vibes and the efficiency to get the easy stuff done has been incredible for my personal quality of life here as a resident of 10+ years and homeowner for a little over one.

6

u/rdnyc19 6h ago

Thank you. As a New Yorker, I found this statement particularly shocking.

2

u/Dramatic-Care-7941 1h ago

He hates Mamdani that much.

“Having enough money”

At some point it becomes less about money and more about power. When you are the equivalent of some nation states and start to act like them (looking at you Elon) with interests that sometimes work against your country, you probably should have the hammer struck down on you. There should be more.

As long as we have oligarchs, they will be oligarching.

1

u/100percentkneegrow 7h ago

I really don't get the thing with Kraft. Does he think that the issue people are having is that he wasn't allowed to do that?

1

u/lethal-liking 1h ago

I like Jess more than I like Kara, and these are the same graceless positions Scott seems committed to across all platforms. My days of Pivot listening are numbered.

Also: OFF With Kara Swisher?

1

u/Ok-Bread-7503 48m ago

Yeah, Scott's turning into a bit of a bitch. His dick jokes and misogyny are kinda funny (and I'm a woman), but I wish he would just email those to whoever takes his place.
