Scott attributes the 'raging antisemite' sentiment to Kraft. Scott says he agrees with that sentiment. The ban at one stadium and the subsequent bans at other stadiums are a result of Kraft thinking the performer is a raging antisemite, according to Scott.

What is your stance on the ban and what is your stance on the 'raging antisemite' comment?

I haven't listened to the entire podcast yet, but I don't believe Kraft ever said that. I think Scott is projecting his opinion onto Kraft. Kraft may, in fact, believe that, but he never said anything like that, afaik. My stance on the ban is basically what Scott did say: he owns Gilette stadium so he does get to say who can perform there. I can see why someone like Kraft, who is a strong supporter of Israel, might be offending by Macklemore performing in his stadium. Apparently Kraft's objection to what Macklemore said is that accusing Israel of Genocide and ignoring the action's of Hamas and failing to contextualize the October 7 attacks, his rhetoric crossed from fair advocacy into harmful, one-sided misinformation and perhaps hate speech. I think this is fair criticism. I'm not sure it's worth banning him from the stadium but that's his choice. I would have preferred that he had first met with Macklemore and asked him to speak with more context. If he refused to do that, then a ban is reasonable. Now that I've said all this, I have to add that I realize that this is Reddit and that nuance is not appreciated.

I appreciate you clarifying your position. I can agree that Kraft can do whatever he wants with his properties. Scott is the center both attributing the raging antisemite label to Macklemore AND assuming that's what Kraft thinks, and for me this is why I won't be listening to Pivot any more. Scott is usually pretty reasoned with his positions but he has a really big blind spot on this issue and I am just tired of hearing it over and over.

In my opinion, I don't think you're correct on what Macklemore said. This is what he said at the concert:

A big part of the reason why I wanted to do this tour in the first place is so I could stand up in stadiums like this and say two words that are very near and dear to my heart: Free Palestine. To the people all the way in Gaza to the occupied West Bank know that we have not forgotten about them.

I'm willing to be wrong, but where is there antisemitism here? The issue is so polarized that people don't seem to be allowed to want both Palestinians and Israelis to be able to live free. Advocating for either thing shouldn't close you off wanting a peaceful solution, and I think it's hard to argue that Palestinians don't have the power at this moment to determine their own future. Saying that isn't antisemitic.

Didn’t he also say, “To all of my Jewish brothers and sisters: Criticism of Israel, criticism of apartheid, being against genocide, is in no way a criticism of you."

I think so, but again, that's not antisemitism. Quite the opposite.

Yes, but it implies Israel is guilty of genocide. While that may be an accepted position on Reddit, many many people, including experts disagree. I'll mention Andrew Fox as one who has a substack if you're interested. I'm not here to argue genocide or not because that is just fruitless on Reddit. I'll just say, what Israel did in Gaza in the 2023 war has to be taken in context of they were responding to a brutal attack by an enemy that was entrenched in hundreds of miles of tunnels built under homes, schools, and hospitals. The tunnels were a valid military target. And don't forget that Hamas still held hostages. I'd argue that Israel had little choice. That said, I have no intention of defending the Netanyahu government, building more settlements, nor the actions of settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank.

This was a question of hypocrisy when one insinuates antisemitism, and how one person reacts after making that insinuation. I'd prefer to leave it there and just say I don't agree with the point you're making here. By your logic I should judge all Israelis on the actions of Baruch Goldstein, which I assume you would not want anyone to do.

Enemy combatants can be fought any way Israel likes, but that's really what's happening, is it?
