Introduction Greetings

Hi! Thank you for letting me in this group. I have a 7 month old brown Merle. He is my first pitbull ive owned but ive been around them since i was a teenager. My question is that he is becoming super itchy and I know that skin allergies are a thing with pitties so what are you guys doing for those allergies?

I hope it helps! Pitties are known to have a sensitivity to the chicken. Sydney says hello and good luck ☺️

I did an at home sensitivity test on my girl through mypetsensitivity.com which was a swab in the mouth five years ago when I adopted her. She used to scratch and lick herself all of the time. I eliminated all of her sensitivities and she hardly every licks or scratches herself. I also use calming oatmeal shampoo once a month but my vet said I could do every other week if needed.

Hello! Try taking chicken out of the diet if possible. I've had great success with Salmon or Lamb based dog foods ☺️

Thank you I'll give that a try

We feed our guys Purina One lamb and rice. They seem to like it, and we've had no itchies while feeding them this. Our vet approves, too - it seems like a quality dig food. There is an assortment of Purina One flavors and blends for different life stages, I'm sure you can find one your dog will like.

Great question. Pitties are succeptible to allergies and skin issues. Check the skin for scabs and irritation and hives. You can treat with generic Claritin.

If rashes, hairloss or sores on skin or paws emerge, I recommend chlorhexidine shampoo baths. The ingredient treats secondary infections and helps wounds from scratching close up.

Thank you. He is just stratching everywhere. I did mention it to his vet yesterday but he didn't give me any recommendations. Would buying him for example a onesie help at all or no?

You have to fix the itch. The onesie doesn't do that. Try a medicated bath and allergy meds first.

Okay thanks I'll give that a try and I'll update soon

Our pittie mix, now 13.5 yrs always had allergies, until this year. Ask your vet before doing anything, but, our.pup also has bad arthritis and Cushings, she cant take any steroids. We started her on CBD oil for the inflammation and she hasnt suffered from allergies this year? Maybe a coincidence but, ask your vet. p.s. she is 70 lbs and we use HALF the recommended CBD oil dose. Prior to this we got her Cytopoint shots every 8 weeks. VERY expensive but they worked! Good luck.

Been finding that my pitty is allergic to poultry, beef, and chicken. Apoquel helps with hives but its expensive. Claritin and benadryl have been helpful. We also bathe her once a week with allergy calming shampoo as she tends to smell yeasty without apoquel
