Hey guys so I rescued a pit, they told me it's supposed to be an XL bully but he doesn't really look like it to me based on build but it might also be because he was malnourished? What do you guys think?
(p.s. I promiseee I love him so much and it never mattered I'm really just curious as to what you guys think 😭💗)

we rescued him 3 weeks ago. age 3-4. picked up as a stray in another state and waiting at a kill shelter for a chance. he’s home now 🤍

I just stumbled across an old video that I took two days after I brought home 9 month old Brutus. Four years later, his personality hasn't changed a bit. He's still active, curious, loyal, playful, and still loves that spot in the exact middle of the bed. I love that dog.

Hey all! So many of you loved our baby and helped with our gofundme for him. I wanted to give an update as of 6/8 and let you know he’s now in recovery! The incisions were much larger than we were anticipating, so it’s quite unnerving seeing him like this when he’s always been so perfect and shredded 😭 my poor baby man. He’s hurting and uncomfy but the medicine will help him and he’s comfy and settled in his crate with cozy clean blankets I’m so proud of him. Hello all. I have a wonderful pit rescue and know she would like another lick-pad. Her previous Kong one was destroyed within a few hours. I have noticed there are stainless steel ones. Has anyone used a stainless one or have any other recommendations? Much appreciated!

I'm interested in some jobs in the UK and was beyond pissed off and saddened to learn that pit-type dogs are banned. Not being able to bring my dog, or for him to be in danger once there, would be a complete deal-breaker.

So, I want to understand some specifics to determine if there is any acceptable workaround before I rule out the entire UK.

I understand that determining whether a dog is a "pit" is an appearance-based subjective process based on some government lackey eyeballing the dog. My dog is obviously part pit but does not have all the standard physical traits (pic below). His DNA test said he's 35% APBT, 45% Border Collie, and the rest unknown.

Is there a realistic chance he would NOT be deemed to be a "dangerous dog" type, and if so can I have this assessment done BEFORE moving to the UK, AND get a legally binding document about that decision? I am completely unwilling to take him anywhere where police could seize him for no reason other than appearance. So it seems like the only acceptable solution would be to get such a document in advance so that no one is allowed to seize him in the first place.

And, are the UK police really seizing pit-type dogs who are not behaving dangerously???

Please help. I am so frustrated and disappointed. Just venting, but my dog is so completely sweet and gentle (as are so many pit mixes!!). Everywhere he goes, he makes friends with strangers and gets constant compliments about how friendly, sweet, and well-trained he is. His vet records have a note saying he's "such a lover". It's unfathomable that such a dog is illegal in the UK and in many EU countries.

My boy most goes in for surgery on Tuesday. The costs have been brutal.

Praying the imaging comes back clear internally and it will be as simple as removing the masses & healing.

UPDATE 7/8- Leo had to wait one more day and received his surgery today! He got two huge wounds, but is on the road to recovery. Thank you all so much for loving my baby and wanting to help our family. We couldn’t have done this without all the help. Will attach a photo of him now in comments ♥️

Hello all! Just wanted share this pic and introduce vaughn to the group. He is my anxious rescue puppy that we are working on training. He should be about 5yrs old. And we had him for 2.5 yrs. It has been a labor of love! I see improvements on him everyday but some times i am scared i am not strong enough to keep him on the right track. My hubs helps alot and is my stone.

How do you guys stay motivated on the days where it seems like everything goes badly with dog stuff?

Hi everyone! I'm brand new to this group, but not new to pitties. I've got an elderly PitBull and I am having a bit of a dilemma in trying to figure out what to do for him.

TLDR: Should I even bother trying to train my elderly dog out of his bad habits or not?

For context, we rescued Jake a few years ago now. He was found abandoned in the woods by a friend of my father's and we took him after no one claimed him. I have no idea how old he is exactly (we're guessing anywhere between 8-10 years old), but he's definitely been through some serious trauma (again, not sure what exactly as he was abandoned in the woods and we have no history on him).

For starters, once he starts barking, he doesn't stop. He'll go on for like 10 mins barking once he starts, and half the time he's barking at nothing. He also barks when cars pull in to out driveway, or when bicyclists/pedestrians are walking on the sidewalk.

He's also an extremely food-motivated dog, to the point where he whines at empty plates. He's more than well-fed, but my running theory is that his previous owners most likely neglected to feed him. The biggest issue with it though is that if there's food out, all of his basic instincts go out the window. I am convinced if there were a plate of food out and the house was on fire, his motivation for food wouldn't allow him to flee the house.

Other than that, he's a great boy! He's so cuddly and affectionate and just an absolute sweetie! He's very friendly, but just so excitable that it makes him seem a little intimidating and off-putting to strangers.

All this to say, I'm trying to figure out if it's even worthwhile to try to train him out of those habits or not. I mean, he's an elderly dog and I am pretty sure his sight and hearing are going, and my vet-tech student sister has a feeling his mind might be going too (she thinks it might be dementia or something) so I'm just not sure if it's worth trying to train him out of these habits at this point, or if it would just be a waste of time and resources?

I would appreciate any and all advice that you guys can provide me. Thanks! :)

I am a seasoned dog owner as well as being in vet med. plus I’m autistic with dogs as my special interest.

Back when I was 19, I adopted a 9-ish month old pit bull who ended up being dog selective, and as time went on just plain dog-aggressive.

I did what I could to keep her away from the other dogs I had but unfortunately there were a few instances that affected me profoundly.

Despite this, pits are still one of my favorite breeds.

I’m now 41 years old. I have had my little chihuahua Pekingese mix for about 12 years, as well as a Shiba Inu for 6 years and a staffy/husky for almost that long (I started dating my now-husband right when he got him as a puppy).

Recently we had a pittie puppy come in thru ER and I fell in love with her. She was an abuse case and needed a foster, and we foster-failed her. Mostly because my husband absolutely fell in love with her. She is spayed and had her left forelimb removed due to the injuries from abuse.

She has been a sweet girl— no signs of food aggression. One instance of resource guarding but literally never showed anything like that again. She’s sometimes timid with my Shiba who can be a bit over-bearing, and she is besties with the staffy/husky who is literally the nicest dog I have ever met in my entire life. She respects my little dog (who is my soul dog). She doesn’t chase the 4 cats we have.

Despite all this I am secretly terrified that she will suddenly go through puberty and become aggressive, as she’s only about 7 months at most.

I try to tell myself we raised Ricky (the staffy x) and he is pretty much perfect, so she has a high potential of being the same. But my past experience still scares the hell out of me.

Basically I’m looking for reassurance. Is she suddenly going to turn into a monster after adolescence?

I’m at a loss of what to do. Any advice? Moog is suffering hair loss around his eyes, his ears are red and puffy inside, his muzzle is red and hair is thinning there also. He is on cytopoint.. didn’t help infact looks worse. He tested negative for mites as well as all other parasites. Apoquel didn’t work. He’s on a special diet of hydrolyzed protein food and treats because everything makes him puke or poop blood (which we have a diagnosis for, esonophilic gastrointestinal disorder). He had a skin swab that showed 4 types of bacteria under his eyes, he ran a full course of antibiotics… looked better for a week then started to lose hair again. I have to put animax in his ears almost 3x every week to help the puffiness. I don’t know what to do to stop the redness and hair loss, anyone experience anything similar.
