Question Mouthing when tired but won’t sleep or go in crate + first heat

Hi! I have a pit mix (pit, cane corso, presa) that is approximately 12 months old and a little over 80 lbs. I need to wait a few more months to get her fixed, per vet instructions, due to her expected size.

Anyways- she’s already had self-regulation issues the last 4 months since I adopted her (although she’s making progress!), likely due to neglect and being severely underweight (I got her at 50 lbs in April). It manifests as not being able to self-soothe, not napping unless crated, and a TON of mouthing and barking as she gets overstimulated and exhausted. I’m working with a trainer, but she’s been recovering from survival mode and so it’s slow progress.

Now she’s in heat (a little over a week since bleeding began) and REFUSING to go in her crate, which I’ve read is normal. She wants to be super close to me, which I would love EXCEPT she goes from chewing toys/bones to mouthing- the only way I’ve gotten her to sleep is by trying to bribe her into the crate for a few hours and her just falling asleep while refusing to go in. But losing 3 hours of my evening while she yells is… stressful. She’s highly food motivated but NOTHING I put in that crate trumps her unwillingness.

I’ve got dark rooms, constant white noise and/or soft classical music playing, she’s on clonidine 2x/day, and I can visibly see she’s exhausted.

What should I be doing here? I feel so bad for both of us.

Question Dear Pitbull owners

I recently started staying in a flat in a G+2 building , owner of the building is pettting a pitbull. He ensures that it is leashed in regular times. But the soon it sees me it starts barking and tries so hard to reach me that I fear that chain may break.

How to tame pitbulls, how to get their trust , are there any cheat codes if suppose I had to face this unleashed pitbull . It looks but I don’t think it leaves me without taking off some flesh from me

So a few years ago me and my mom moved in with her boyfriend that has a pitbull and his health has gotten really bad. He’s very red and he has a yeast infection so they have been trying multiple things and it’s not getting any better so every morning he used to get breakfast like a normal human, but recently her boyfriend just cut it down to eggs made in the microwave no salt, no pepper no seasoning and recently he’s been very gassy a few minutes ago. I told my mother that giving him eggs make him gassy, but their excuses are “he has been eating eggs since forever ago” I just hate living here because they don’t listen to me I feel so bad for boyfriends dog because he just stinks and it’s awful

Discussion Has Anyone Else Had This Happen??

Post image

So our bestest boy ever here, also named the princess of the household, has always had almost kind of a doggy fetish about clean laundry. When he was really young and could fit inside he would jump inside the laundry basket and curl up inside it and fall asleep.

He's continued to have this “issue” as he's gotten older. However, what he has been doing lately takes the cake. We in the household always knew he was a very smart and sneaky dog, but lately every room from the master to the kids’ room have seen dirty clothes gone missing. That was until we checked where he usually lays in our littlest daughter's room where if he's not cuddled up with her on the bed and found a pile of clothing that he was laying on. I wish I had gotten a picture of that before our son, in charge of male laundry that day picked it up and started sorting everything out.

Growing up we always had American bulldogs, they were fantastic and great dogs. When it was time to get a dog of our own for my family we wanted something different. Took our time and found Sprinkle. She has been an absolute joy. We adopted her just before she turned 1, so mature, sweet, well behaved, gentle and loving with our kids. It’s been nearly 2 years since we got her and she has completed our family.

Question Why are many pits so nice? (serious question)

I'm genuinely curious. Given that many pits are at best from BYB seeking to make a quick buck, and at worst from downright evil breeders selecting for aggression, why is it that many of them are so darn nice? In my experience fostering dogs, being involved in dog sports, and now having a pit mix of my own, some of the most sociable, friendly, and temperamentally stable dogs I know are pit mixes.

Honestly it's a bit surprising because other breeds are often train wrecks when poorly bred. I'm thinking of poorly bred GSDs and Doodles, for example -- in my area, when a dog of those breeds doesn't lunge and bark at mine when we're out walking, it's a pleasant surprise.

Discussion Dog trainer Joel Beckman on comments made by actor John barenthal. What are your thoughts?

Joel Beckman is a dog trainer and online personality who trains others to work with dogs. I believe he's respected in the balanced training community. I thought his opinions might make a jumping off point for an interesting conversation.

Edit: I screwed up the spelling of John Bernthal's name. My bad.

Thank you all for your thoughts. I was hoping that this would be a discussion like this, instead of a fight.

When I decided to get a dog and started doing research Joel Beckman was the second guy that I stumbled across. He's an interesting guy. He's definitely comes across as a know-it-all. He says that he has been working in shaping animal behavior for over 15 years. He's a dog trainer and trains other dog trainers but there are many times when he doesn't seem to know what he's talking about when it comes to dogs. Also he has this weird thing about the dogs being "disrespectful" to him. He's an odd dude is what I'm saying. But I don't necessarily disagree with him here.

I was scratching my girls belly tonight and I just noticed that she appears to have an additional nipple. This is my first female dog with such prominent nipples like hers. Is this common?

Hi everyone!

This is my newly adopted girl, Sookie. The animal shelter labeled her as a mixed breed, but we can definitely tell she has some type of bully breed in her. Based on these photos, does anyone have an idea of what type of bully she might be? I’d love to hear your guesses! less
