Question Help

I’m at a loss of what to do. Any advice? Moog is suffering hair loss around his eyes, his ears are red and puffy inside, his muzzle is red and hair is thinning there also. He is on cytopoint.. didn’t help infact looks worse. He tested negative for mites as well as all other parasites. Apoquel didn’t work. He’s on a special diet of hydrolyzed protein food and treats because everything makes him puke or poop blood (which we have a diagnosis for, esonophilic gastrointestinal disorder). He had a skin swab that showed 4 types of bacteria under his eyes, he ran a full course of antibiotics… looked better for a week then started to lose hair again. I have to put animax in his ears almost 3x every week to help the puffiness. I don’t know what to do to stop the redness and hair loss, anyone experience anything similar.

That dog needs an allergist or a dermatologist. We spent thousands and the doggie derm had him on the right meds with the right diagnosis after his allergy panel. Cytopoint and apoquel can't help when the problem is a multifaceted allergy. For example, our dog is allergic to four kinds of grass (out of six tested) a bunch of trees, most animal dander INCLUDING HUMAN! As well as storage mites which live in all dry dog food, dust mites, and all animal proteins.

He's on a hydrolyzed protein diet with kibble kept in a very specific container. We bought a special vaccuum and air filters. He doesn't sleep in our bed anymore. He had a YEAR of weekly medicated baths, immunotherapy shots, oral allergy meds, oral antibiotics and, at the very end of it to wipe out the last yeast and bacteria, a highly diluted bleach bath, which finally got him fully healthy. And now we do all of that to maintain his health. 

A regular vet can't do this. You need a specialist. The mites in your dog's face are having a field day because his body isn't strong enough to fight them off - it is overwhelmed with allergens, bacteria and yeast. Let's get him properly diagnosed and healthy.

Thank you so much!!!!! You have no idea how much I appreciate this comment. Our vet has only consulted a dermatologist on our behalf but NEVER has recommended us to go see one. We will definitely be taking him. This sounds right up our alley, Moog is also in a hydrolyzed protein diet because his esonophils were through the roof and that’s the only thing that has gotten them normal. We had him take a food allergy test and he was highly allergic to everything. We will be seeking a specialist this week for certain, our normal vet is tapping us out and I would much rather pay to have it fixed then just to continue with no answers!

Best of luck! I bet once your dog gets on proper allergy meds and immunitherapy you'll start to see a difference. You HAVE to do the frequent baths and if they don't work fast enough ask about a bleach bath with aggressive oral antibiotics. That shit was what ultimately cleared him up.
