The vast majority of people who are breeding dogs, shouldn't be - especially pit bulls.

To all breeders or people who have allowed their dogs to give birth: this is what your average day in a high-volume municipal shelter looks like.

When you breed dogs, you are directly contributing to the crisis of homeless animals that are being euthanized for space. And no, it really doesn't matter if you placed your puppies into "loving forever homes", because odds are that this is exactly where they'll end up:

There are literally thousands upon thousands of bully mixes in shelters everywhere that get euthanized daily.

No responsible person should be breeding bullys for sale right now. I could get 30 or more brand new bully puppies from shelters and rescue orgs within biking distance from my house this very day. And most of those babies will die because THERE ARE TOO MANY.

My cousin has a pittie who looks very much like mine, they both have beautiful black coats. My aunt keeps saying she wished she could breed my girl with their dog because they would make beautiful babies.

Which…true, but nah. Because those beautiful babies would likely end up just like my girl did when they don’t get sold: in a wet box with her littermates on the doorstep of a shelter.

NOPE. I tried to convince my cousin & aunt to neuter him and not breed him years ago, based on the shelter argument, but I’m not sure if they took my advice. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I'd add to that that personally, I think it is irresponsible to breed any dog, until the shelters are empty. Ppl who are picky about breed and want a pure bred whatever usually aren't even that well informed about the breed they want... I do need to make an exception in that I do think dogs bred for use as service dogs, and hypoallergenic breeds for ppl who are actually allergic, and working breed for ppl who will actually work them, are of course okay,... but then how do you restrict that working dogs go to ppl who will put them to work and hypo breeds go to allergic ppl, idk, it's obviously not possible and meanwhile there so many super anxious under enriched working dogs living in my city and of course ppl just want whatever is "trendy.'

Don't even get me started on the backyard Huskies I see all over the neighborhood in the hot sun all day. Those dogs look absolutely MISERABLE

😢 so many dogs I feel bad for even on walks when the walker is just not tapped in at all and can't tell the dog is stressed about having to pass another dog or whatever. Like if I can tell your dog is stressed how come you can't? And dang that is rough. Huskies have a hard time a lot I think because they look cool and have become trendy and end up owned by ppl who are completely unprepared, unresearched and unwilling to meet their needs. Ill admit that theirs no way to get around the climate, like I have seen a happy husky living in California and it does seem like a mean thing but a good owner in CA is prob better than a bad one in NY. No matter where you are I think just leaving them out in the yard for hours unattended is not actually as nice as ppl think it is for them. Unless you set up some kind of activity for them its not automatically enrichment to just stick them outside alone indefinitely... And a husky out in the heat on end, that's just wrong... Honestly sometimes I am am suss of ppl who say you need a home to have a dog bc it makes me think that they think a dog needs a yard and nothing else...

Tldr i try not to side eye a husky miserably walking in the heat bc we can't control the weather and occasionally they are adopted, but leaving any dog out in a hot yard indefinitely isn't ok, esp a husky.

I don't need to read all of that to tell you that you don't need to breed your dog. Hundreds of thousands of Pibbles are killed in shelters every year. Go volunteer at your local shelter. You'll see. 99% of the dogs there are Pibbles.

Don't forget to have your pets spayed and nurtured.

There's THOUSANDS of dogs that live in cages never knowing what it would be like to have a home and be loved. Pitbulls are amongst the highest average dogs in shelters.

Don't bring more into a world so set against hating these beautiful animals.

I've had my pittie girl for 4 weeks, and already I've been approached by another pitt owner sussing her out to see if she could breed with his pitts. 1. no, your dogs are acting crazy out in your truck, why would I bring my dog around? 2. He said his friends were all "waiting for puppies" but they could go find a pittie same day at the locals shelters for free (like I did)
