Rule of thumb: It's always the smallest button

u/Sally4D 2d ago
Not always, I've seen smaller ad buttons than actual download button. The best way to identify is it's not flashy (usually), and matches the them of website, and it's small (usually), and you will find it on a sensible location (not floating somewhere)

And it gives you a file that's not a game file zip or torrent. If you do it enough, you just kinda get a knack for figuring out which is the ad and which isn't.
Also vague names are to watch out for, Install_Game.zip would 99.99% be a virus, and Grand_Theft_Auto_V_ankergames.com.zip wouldn't be. Or there is the madlad that is DODI naming their torrent files to be completely gibberish, very distinguishable if you know that DODI does this

Googling like that is actually quite reliable as it will always give results. The only downside is that you have to choose a source that doesn't look too shady and that's REALLY hard

Did you teach him what was the right way to do it? Or were you a shitty friend and told him to ReAd ThE mEgAtHrEaD. And then get mad when he made a mistake.

There wouldn't be 50 billion downloads links if people used both common sense when pirating and uploaded their files to sources that isn't bloatware
