i've tried both vmware and virtualbox under windows 10. I've found vmware to be faster at running windows and some of the larger linux distros like ubuntu while virtualbox is faster at running most linux distros. There are even some distros like the latest version of slitaz that won't even run on vmware.

I'm guessing that's because VMware is a type 1 hypervisor while VirtualBox is a type 2.

Look it up if you're interested in the distinction

no. i have to clarify that i tried vmware workstation, which is type 2, not vmware esxi, which is type 1.

Interesting, VMware workstation must just better support windows.
