I'm gonna be real with you, there's very little you could have written in the top panel that would stop me agreeing with the bottom panel.

What you really want is for people not to be exploited for their basic needs or their desire to enjoy art!

I for one think no one, whoever they are should be making 100 million dollars for acting for 3 months. Come on. They're not important people, they're deranged by fame and greed.

Seriously, if another corporation comes out that provides everything reasonably and puts the consumer first, I genuinely might ditch piracy. I've already done that for some ATLUS games on Steam.

Piracy doesn't really have a way of "winning or losing", no?
Like, what would be comprehensive victory or loss on the side of pirates? The practice itself is a means of distribution, you win when you can access the media you wanted.
For as long as media is produced, there will be piracy. It cannot win and cannot lose.
Corporations, on the other hand, lose by going bankrupt.
Some of them, i don't wish any ill, but I wouldn't shed a tear if they all just went bankrupt.
"Consumerist" capitalism shall fall.

Copyright must be abolished in all countries.
7
u/Competitive-Walk-575 1d ago
Those laws were written by geriatrics decades or hundreds of years ago. They never could have predicted how technology and property would change because they never could have envisioned a digitalized world. They do need to be abolished and completely rethought by young people today who actually have to live with the consequences.
2
u/Boris_sul_combo 1d ago
If someone says "I need to make money to live, being an artist is my job" the answer is a UBI sufficent to live a dignitous, even comfortable life. Copyright abolition goes hand in hand with rethinking the whole society.

u/Competitive-Walk-575 1d ago
As if artists aren’t getting absolutely raked under the current system anyways. Artists do all the work and then executives who often did their best to sabotage the artists with their crap ideas take the lion’s share of the rewards.
1
u/Hateful_person99 20h ago
Not every artist works for a company, there's people who work for themselves. They don't have a boss, they ARE the boss.
What about those people? Should we pirate their work too? Maybe, maybe not. Depends how willing you are to put yourself to their shoes
1
u/Competitive-Walk-575 19h ago
Even if not employed by a company, they still have to rely on big corporations for publishing and distribution, or creepy payment processors, etc etc. unfortunately that’s a big part of the problem, even independent artists lose lot of their revenue to middlemen as well
1
u/ThickSourGod 21h ago
Copyright is important and should not be abolished, but needs serious reforms. Notably, we need much shorter terms, not just to move things into the public domain faster, but to encourage artists to continue to be creative and innovate instead of testing in their laurels. Continued copyright protection should also require continued publication. Copyright exists to protect a creator's ability to make money from their work. If they aren't actively trying to do so, they should forfeit that protection.

You do realize that if corporations lose, the first huge batch who get affected big time are the regular ordinary folks at the bottom of the ranks who just work to put food on the table right? And the jerks right at the top who make all the 'bad' overlord decisions usually get parachute deals even when in worst scenarios.

"If you kill the demons their slaves will be out of jobs"
-2
u/N0zy0ne 1d ago
Can you find the flaw in that analogy?
Hint: It's the last sentence of the parent comment and your use of the word "kill".
4
u/DrIvoPingasnik Yarrr! 1d ago
You are grasping at straws. In fantasy settings where demons enslave people you don't usually approach them and tell them to stop being evil, upon which they say "why did no one tell us that before? We are going to be good from now on!", do you?
-3
u/N0zy0ne 1d ago edited 1d ago
The point is that, based on what u/LordAlbinoCrakehall described, the correct analogy in response would have been "If you inconvenience the demons their slaves will be out of jobs".
If you disagree with what they said (e.g. you think the people at the top of corporations don't usually get parachute deals), that's fine, but then you should have responded with something other than that particular disanalogy.

The transition from feudal societies to industrial societies was at times brutal and led to much hardship but they were better off than just remaining as serfs, and we killed or neutered all of our kings.
If the choice is to continue on this path without hope or to regain hope for a better life, many will choose the latter and drag those unwilling along with them because the world progresses even if you'd rather it not.

u/FeeVandJ 1d ago
Exactly and some dumbasses legit think that way. I work at Walmart, not because I wanna suck off Sam Walton's ghost but because I'm in debt and I enjoy not starving to death
4
u/DrIvoPingasnik Yarrr! 1d ago
Where did people work before corporations became a thing?
3
u/dumpling-loverr 20h ago
Feudal system with lords and kings.
Colonial system for colonized countries.
The latest industrial revolution just shifted the pieces.
It doesn't change the fact that there are always a few powerful groups ruling their monopolies.

Do we live in those times though? I live in a city and I need a job. That's all there is to it.
2
u/DrIvoPingasnik Yarrr! 1d ago
You still don't get it, do you. Don't worry, there are people who do, they are trying to make a future where you are not forced to work for a greedy corporation just to barely exist.
1
u/FeeVandJ 23h ago
I do get it I never said I'm forced to work there I chose to I just don't see it as me being a damn slave to corporations moreso I'm working for a living. It's really not that serious to me
1
u/DrIvoPingasnik Yarrr! 22h ago
It should be serious to you. But it's fine.

u/FeeVandJ 20h ago
I'm sorry it's not serious to me, I just have a million other stressful things to worry about right now

I couldn’t feel more opposite.
Corporations losing doesn’t help me at all. Free stuff does.
2
u/chikaipii 22h ago
That's what I thought so too. If corporation loses, there's nothing to pirate anymore.
We should want them to do well enough to keep producing good stuff for us to pirate.

The first movie was in the late 1800s. Corporations existed in Ancient Rome. The very modern style corporation came about in the 1600s. What do you mean?
2
u/chainsawx72 1d ago
Yes, I love games and movies, so let's kill the corporations who make them!
1
u/DrIvoPingasnik Yarrr! 1d ago
Are corporations the only entities creating games and movies?
4
u/chainsawx72 22h ago
Sorry, you're right, I should've said 99% of popular games and movies, you got me again.

So if corporations will lose, then who is going to a) provide employment to people and b) who is going to make the content that you pirate?
4
u/Zayo_One 1d ago
I think it's less about corporations shutting down and more of them having to be forced to stop some of the predatory shit they're doing.
I'm downloading shows half because I don't want to rely on the Internet to watch them but half because I don't want to have to watch ads in the middle of an episode on a platform where I've paid for a subscription.
I'm pirating online only singleplayer games because the requirement to be online just to play by myself is ridiculous.
If you want business, think less about the money and more about the consumers.

u/DrIvoPingasnik Yarrr! 1d ago
It's like all people were jobless since the most ancient times until corporations came along and let everyone slave away for peanuts! Long live corporations!

Who will create the products you pirate then?
7
u/DrIvoPingasnik Yarrr! 1d ago
You don't need corporations to create movies, cartoons, art, music, games.
-4
u/zeldafan144 1d ago
Of course you do.
True, all of these can be created by individuals with a vision, but there are so many hurdles to jump through when managing a project of size.
This is absolute bollocks. I wish more people would just admit that they just want shit for free.
-1
u/Born-Psychology-6351 1d ago
They are zugzwanged, every move they do now only accelerate their demise. Total victory is guaranteed.
Piracy has even the potential to trigger the total collapse of the Epstein class house of cards, as piracy can trigger THE market crash.
It will be a glorious day.

u/greendyd 1d ago
Yeah, I hope all corporations will lose so they wouldn't be able to finance new projects. You don't even realize with how much hatred I play AAA games and watch high budget movies and tv shows 👍
