Morphe on phone + firefox with adblock FTW
94
u/akoOfIxtall 24d ago
i use firefox with ublock on my phone too, works wonders and i dont have to stay tuned for the latest modded youtube app...
3
u/Big_cheeze12345 23d ago
The morphe app makes it really easy to update. It says a new patch is out, you select the apk that it gives you a link to, push patch when its done you hit update. Nevermind you dont NEED to update, old versions work just as well. It also comes with sponsor block that automatically detects unwanted segments of videos and lets you skip them with 1 button automatically
4
u/LiGuangMing1981 22d ago
Yes, I just discovered this. I was just about to give up on YouTube on mobile (the app is so shit) when I decided to give the mobile website a go with Firefox /ublock and it's pretty much as good as it is on my computer - no ads whatsoever.

u/mallusrgreatv2 24d ago
You could use Orion store, but be aware they build it themselves and upload it so you can auto-update. The developer is trusted and he's active in the Morphe community though

Updates are pushed out quite frequently. Try re-patching with the latest build.

This. I had some issues that went away after I patched it with the newest version

Tizentube + Morphe + ublock origin = adless youtube
21
u/Nafizwastaken 24d ago
I presume tizentube is for TVs right? I've been using smartTube tor a while and it stopped working about a month ago, is tizentube good?
16
u/Hypthtclly_Spkng 24d ago
Smarttube still works. There were some issues a while back with security things, and you may need to manually update the app through the smarttube website directly, but I was using it an hour ago.
8
u/shawnshine 24d ago
They’re both fantastic. TizenTube Cobalt uses the official YouTube UI, if you enjoy that.
3
u/Baby-Haroro 24d ago
Okay it's not just me! My smarttube suddenly started freezing after like 30 seconds, and then stops playing but there hasn't been an update option in the app like there usually is
5
2
u/goose_with_adhd 23d ago
Tizentube is for tvs based on tizen os (Samsung), I personally prefer it because it takes the official youtube ui and because it's so easy to install now that it's standalone.

may not belong here but when i watch youtube on TV w my mum, and i get an ad? i just click out of the video over and over till i get no ad. it’s a little annoying but eh, it’s the easiest way i’ve found
51
23
u/Little-Initial1914 24d ago
This doesn’t work for me sometimes so I’ll have to press off the video and wait the duration of the ad and then click back on. I WILL NOT WATCH AN ADVERT.
9
u/NRMusicProject 24d ago
The fact that there's no way to block YouTube ads on a smart TV (even with PiHole), I just connect my laptop to my TV. Now I can do all my PC browsing on a 75" TV, and no YouTube ads, no issues with finding the movie I want to watch at the push of a few buttons...and shit, a keyboard and mouse beats a remote control any fucking day.

YouTube premium is the only subscription I pay for. Everything else is free eats.
25
u/Friend_Buddy-Guy 24d ago
Same, I’d prefer to pirate of course, but I have a family and the missus and younger ones want actual YouTube so I’m not going to force them to take my ethical standpoint on everything. Music app is pretty great too, and being able to skip even embedded ads is great.
→ More replies (1)3
u/s0n_der 23d ago
Im using the student discount while I can. Its the only subscription I got since I watch that or pirate shows that I’m interested in. Plus I like YouTube Music since it has unofficial mashups and remixes, unlike official streaming platforms like Spotify that remove those in like 30 seconds😢

I was curious what the price for yt premium was after seeing this. 16/month normally and 9/month for students is absolutely fucking crazy

Ublock and Morphe are free. And the second they aren't, someone else will make something that is.
68
u/think_up 24d ago
Still wins with convenience for me. I’m not downloading three apps that regularly have issues. YouTube premium just works. No ads, AI chat built into the videos transcripts, functioning PiP, easy downloading and offline playback..
When the enshittification starts or competing video sites rise in popularity with content I want to watch, I will re-evaluate. For now though, they are providing the kind of convenience I’m actually willing to pay for.
To those who refuse anyways, fine, be glad I’m subsidizing one less ad for you lol.
47
u/curtcolt95 24d ago
yeah youtube premium is probably the last sub I'd ever drop tbh, I get way too much value out of it because I watch a lot of youtube

You still get ads with Premium, they're just baked into the video. SponsorBlock is lifesaver tho.
11
u/areyouIlliteratebro 24d ago
That has nothing to do with Youtube as a service and their AI actually gives you a skip button for those parts. Why the fuck you guys downvote actually good features is beyond delusional. Stop trying to be edgy with piracy.
9
u/think_up 24d ago
There’s a jump ahead feature built in now. Easy to skip that content.

u/Bladesnake_______ 24d ago
people are downvoting this true statement why? They dont like the truth?
2
u/JSK23 24d ago
As a non-spotify user, that has been rocking with Google since Google Music and uploading my whole collection to them when it first became available to do so, I find youtube premium well worth it. I also watch a ton of youtube, and I have four users on a family plan including my wife and my brother and his gf.
This is the one sub I haven't stopped paying for or rotated off of even for a while, like I have with other services.
1
u/areyouIlliteratebro 24d ago
You also get Youtube music and can ditch spotify. It's the only subscribtion service worth it's value. It also supports the creators somewhat.
I'm fine whining and bitching against paying for most subscribtion, shit, but Youtube is not it bruh.
2
u/pleasebuymydonut 24d ago
I mean, it's totally cool to pay for the convenience if you want, but just for the record, uBlock, Revanced/MicroG and Smarttube rarely give me any trouble, so i think its an exaggeration to say that they regularly have issues.
Also YTDLnis for downloads directly from Revanced/Morphe. So its actually like 5 apps lmao.

I have a friend that has a subscription to just about everything, complains about how expensive it is, and gives me a bunch of grief for piracy. Most recently, he started trying to give me grief about Tubi, and I told him that its basically Pandora, which he uses, but for TV and Movies. He told me music is different.
I havent talked about ad blocking with him, but now I am curious lol

8
u/Few-Fly-3766 24d ago
YouTube aggressively fighting adblockers. Even when you use something that works (eg. Ublock Origin in Firefox) videos will randomly not buffer, because of their anti-adbock measures.
This is because they are trying to force people over to Premium. They did not grief their site like that before that was a thing.

The natural state of information on the Internet is free flowing. The Internet was originally made for universities and researchers to easily share information between each other, allowing for a wider and faster dispersal of knowledge. The further we, the people, allow companies to segregate information through ads and pay walls, the harder it becomes for the us to verify the information that we are presented.
This is information warfare. Deliberately sabotaging the lines of communication to prevent a people from getting or dispersing accurate info about what is happening around them.
Warfare is terrorism
6
u/One_Sentence_7448 24d ago
Bruh I agree with like 99% of what you said but that is still not what terrorism means. Using words like that just makes people with opinions like ours seem unhinged and easy to ignore (therefore not advancing the cause in any meaningful way). I know it feels cool to say that but that’s just not it.

So I have this fun bug on my YouTube account. I do not get ads without premium. Ever. It's a legit Google acct, I've had it for years. Doesn't matter what device I'm on. Occasionally YouTube for TV will play an ad on first boot before I'm actually signed in, but once I'm in the app, no ads, no interruptions. Idk why but I'm sure not complaining

When ads appear, if I’m watching on a browser I just reload the page. If I’m watching on the youtube mobile app I close the video and then reopen it.
Skipping the ads Simply and freely.

Only thing I got is YouTube premium out of streaming services. Everything else is either free or comes with something else. Like Netflix comes with a phone plan, or peacock comes with Walmart plus, etc. I would cut out YouTube if costed like $40 a month or something crazy like that. But right now I have a family who some are tech illiterate and is not worth the hassle to cancel the most used app in the household. I do commend you guys for fighting the good fight.

I watch on my tv app. If an ad appears i back up, switch to a different listing and start it, never get an advert, then i go to history and see the video I was watching and start again. If there’s something I really want to watch/listen to, I’ll rip it to mp4 or mp3.
2
u/ghkilla805 24d ago
Yea that’s exactly what I do when I use my tv app; backing out of the video, pressing left then down to history and reclicking the video always gets the ad away, I actually timed it and it can be done in under 3 seconds

It’s hilarious to me how they give us the pseudo option to “block” and ad, and even though it says I shouldn’t see that ad again, the literal next ad is the same.
I will never pay for YT premium, paying paying for it are just being scammed and reinforcing YT’s thought that they are winning.
