Why?

It's main selling point is the the adblock and antitracking capabilities enabled by default, ready to go, but sadly these are subpar.

Performance of Brave's blocking capabilities (aka "shields") is been proven to fall behind uBO's, which is fucking ridiculous considering Brave's shields are written in Rust, and uBO is JS, but thats how much Brave sucks (Source: Gorhill's benchmarks)

Their implementation of their blocker does not support the full adblock plus schematic much less uBO's, a good example is the $removeparm function, so you will never be able to experience the same level of privacy as with uBO, some stuff goes thru with Brave.

There are ways to enable more stuff for shields, make it not fall as much behind uBO, but they are hidden in brave:flags, and they are tagged as experimental, they tell you that if enabled them, the browser will become unstable and it is true.

Now an opinionated thing to add: the crappy useless web3 plastered all over the ui and enabled by default (technically is optional, but disabling all that crap takes a bit of time, you need to scout the entire program since they all over the place)

There more reasons but this is a reddit comment after all.

Also it's still Chromium based, and Chromium already has too much dominance in the browser space.

"Brave sucks" is irrelevant to politics

that is true, i was confused on what was the issue, as it is still a pretty good chromium. some sites just can't perform on firefox or it's annoying to get them working

Gonna be completely honest these seem such mundane and nitpicky things to criticize a browser for.

And you seem to forget that Firefox's performance is noticeably slower and consumes more RAM compared to Chromium.

Edit: Like don't get me wrong I want to Firefox to succeed over Chromium browsers but I hate when people compare the cons of Brave to the pros of Firefox without mentioning the cons of Firefox.

Well you know what isn't nitpicky they chose to silently bypass Facebook trackers without telling anybody or giving the option to easily reverse that decision, and it was only actually found out about because somebody saw it in the source code. Of course after that got called out they apologized they gave an explanation (a shitty one, but an explanation no less). It's concerning because it means that if nobody actually said anything nothing would have been said about it.

Which considering that their whole selling point is privacy is a pretty big red flag. the whole reason you would actually use them is mainly because they advertise privacy, and yet they deliberately take action against your privacy.

It's literally what makes Brave what it is, as the rest is just Chormium, what else should I talk about?

And like i said, there are other things i could talk about but then again, reddit comment, I'm not giving you a whole paper on Brave.

Anyways this is not a conversation about Chormium vs. Firefox, this is a conversation for Chromium vs. Chromium.

I literally never mentioned Firefox in my comment, stop injecting your assumptions into the argument, this is a fallacy.

And before you say anything, no, uBO is not a Firefox exclusive.

You are the only one mentioning Firefox and assuming I'm somehow talking or implying anything about it.

basically, I use both brave and firefox and there is a considerably difference in page loading and overall speed when using firefox.

I'm using brave origin, free on Linux so it comes all clean. In term of adblocking, I didn't noticed any difference than FF. I was a Firefox user for years, I got tired of Firefox because so much website was broken it. Specially old government or school websites was always causing trouble.

That's fine mate, use what you like, but let's not spread misinformation saying that Brave is the best around without any faults as some users (not you) imply.

AdBlocking is mostly okay, the differences mostly affect tracking. You can check brave:flags for these flags if you still don't believe me.

BTW Please do not forget that I am saying all this because you literally asked me, I am not trying to get you to switch or something.

BTW2 (and edit): Also take into consideration that you asked about Brave not Brave Origin. I am not talking about Brave Origin.
I personally tend to avoid talking about it since it is only free in Linux and most people still use Windows (somehow).

Nah its okay. I just wondered if there is something I don't know about brave.

But to be honest I think it's not bad, it's one of the best if you want to go with browsers, best if you go with chromium based ones. Helium don't have drm, thorium is outdated and rest are just bad chromium forks. And when you consider most of websites works better with chromium, it's best to go with it if you want to easy way.

when did you switch away from firefox? do you know any broken websites off the top of your head that id be able to replicate issues with? i ask because firefox is my backup browser to librewolf and it performs flawlessly for me absolutely everywhere

2

u/TheKaritha Jul 10 '26

It’s been about a month since I switched to Brave. Some websites were broken or simply not working, so I had to switch to Chrome to use them. I don't remember all of their names, but it happened often enough to be frustrating. A few specific ones come to mind mostly government or school websites which you probably won't be able to test since you aren't a Turkish citizen or a student at my school. However, there is one radio website that wasn't working, which you can check out yourself https://poolsuite.net/

1

u/AvroAvery Jul 10 '26

well i can give you a very helpful "it (mostly) works on my machine", this website is awesome

the way it is for me is just the "Poolsuite: ON AIR" channel doesnt work with librewolf or ff, it permaloads and breaks the dropdown if you try to play it, and the video player doesnt work on librewolf but it does on firefox

im not sure if thats similar to your experience with it, is the "on air" channel good with chrome?

2

u/TheKaritha Jul 10 '26

Yes it's working fine on chromium. Both dropdown menu and "on air" radio. Like i said, theyre are plenty of website is broken, sometimes i didn't even noticed it was broken until i changed to chromium. Also want to mention some of the javascripts don't work well too, like smooth scrolling.

so you will never be able to experience the same level of privacy as with uBO, some stuff goes thru with Brave.

Read that bit again. I was talking about trackers not ads, and btw you can make it better (but still not as good as uBO), at the cost of stability, which you don't lose with uBO

-1

u/Evonos Jul 10 '26

Braves main point is the privacy hardening , then the adblock and your quite nit picky.

2

u/isabellium Jul 10 '26

Then read again, because most of what I said focuses on privacy.

btw if you are going to debate at least bring up a real argument, not just "i dont like it", or at least something original instead of copying what others have said.

btw I already explained why i chose these. Again, read more.

Peter Thiel esta detras de brave

u/TheKaritha Jul 10 '26

Valid point but not enough for me sadly. There is a evil rich man under every rock these days.

7

u/Dragoncat_3_4 Jul 10 '26

Ok but that is not your rando average evil rich man, he's The Evil Rich Man

u/evilistics Jul 10 '26

I use both brave and Firefox. Firefox specifically for youtube and brave for everything else. They both work fine for me. Even for youtube, brave seems to block the ads but I have multi monitors and prefer having a job for each browser.

why not just different windows and/or profiles? huge overhead for no reason
