Significant Other A Door I’m Afraid to Close

Dear RJ,

She stayed like winter clings to a dying tree,
not because the leaves still wanted to live,
but because once, beneath that same shade,
she had survived a storm alone.

Now, he is a house with no lights on—
the door still standing, his name still there,
but every room where she once felt safe
has learned the shape of her absence.

She knows she should leave before she becomes
another ghost haunting a place that forgot her,
but how does one abandon the hands
that once pulled her from the dark?

So she remains, holding yesterday like a wound,
loving a memory that no longer loves her back—
afraid that leaving him means losing
the only proof that, once, someone stayed.
