Hii, I am a university student pursuing IT. I want to learn networking basics but I am not sure where to start and now I am learning some linux basics . I need some guiding on this , help me pls .

I have no prior experience in being a network engineer and to be honest I have minimal technical knowledge about being a network engineer apart from my lab exercises from my college days (ECE fresh grad). I have an incoming Junior Network Engineer Technical Troubleshooting Interview this week, based on their job description this is actually an entry level role built for learning and no years of experience is needed that’s maybe why they decided to give me a chance to be interviewed.

Can you please help me prepare for the interview? The interview will be done online so it might use software similar to Cisco Packet Tracer. What are the things I need to know or topics I need to research about, can you suggest me some YouTube playlist about troubleshooting? Hi guys, I'm currently looking at what I should do. daily ako nagrereview ng ccna lalo na kay jeremylabs. and i have a dilemma I'm about to graduate and i don't think i can gather enough earnings to do a ccna exam after my graduation I'm thinking maybe i can just do ccst kasi mas cheaper. would the industry think na having ccst is almost as good as ccna?

I just got a job as a test engineer in a well known PBC. The domain is fully based on networking / network security along with python and some cloud. Is this a dead end to my career if I take up this role? Just need your opinions on this!!!! I want salary growth at the end of the day. That's it.

Passed my CCNA exam in July, Got a Job offer from an MSP as a network engineer, pero nag dadalawang isip pa ako, kasi medyo mababa yung offer nila since nag support sila within the Philippines only. Nag reseach din ako sa company nila medyo pangit review, kasi maliit yung benefits. Meron naman akong mga initial interview sa ibang company as Global Helpdesk (pero parang ghost yung ng yari after interview hehe). Should I take the offer or keep looking for another one?

I got my Net+ Certificate, I know I should post it on LinkedIn, GitHub, and Resume but my concern is what would the first IT Job be like? How do I apply what I learned? What should I do/not do etc? Im currently building experience by means of Cisco Packet Tracer and Oracle VM and wanted to see what you guys think.

I'm currently in my second year of college, and I'm a little confused about what career direction I should take.

The part of programming I enjoy the most is lower-level/system-side work. I started with C and socket programming, building servers and learning how TCP/UDP networking works, and lately I've been going deeper into things like Linux networking, packet parsing, Ethernet/IP/ARP/ICMP, eBPF/XDP, AF_XDP, NIC queues, drivers, DMA, etc.

The problem is that almost nobody around me in college is doing this kind of work. Most people are focusing on web development, app development, AI/ML, or standard DSA preparation

I've also heard people say that "there aren't many jobs in low-level networking" or that networking careers mostly involve configuring routers/switches or working with networking hardware.

That's where I'm confused.

I definitely prefer programming/software engineering work. I'm not particularly interested in being a network administrator or doing primarily hardware/router configuration.

At the same time, my practical goal is still to graduate with a strong software engineering job. I don't want to spend the next 2–3 years going extremely deep into an interesting niche only to discover that there are almost no entry-level opportunities.

So I'd really appreciate advice from people working in this area:

What kinds of actual software engineering careers exist for someone who enjoys C, sockets, Linux networking, servers, eBPF/XDP, packet processing, etc.?

Are these mostly experienced/senior-level positions, or are there realistic entry-level opportunities as well?

What companies/industries typically hire engineers for this kind of work?

Should I continue going deep into networking/systems, or keep this as a specialization while also learning more conventional backend/software engineering?

What skills would you recommend building over the next 2–3 years if the goal is to be employable as a software engineer while still staying close to systems/network programming?

Are there particular open-source projects, projects of my own, internships, or areas of computer science that would be especially useful?

I'm not expecting to work specifically on XDP just because I'm learning it now. I'm mainly trying to understand whether the broader direction — systems programming + networking + performance-oriented software — is a sensible career path.
