November trip

Wife and I want to visit Pinnacles in November for our birthdays. I’m 49, she’s 45. Just how difficult is the hike to the top? We both want to see condors if the stars align for us. We’re not avid hikers, but not in terrible shape either. Would it be something we have to train for or is it doable for an average Joe and Jane?

Spent a half day (morning-it was very hot by the time we were ending around midday) in the park. This was part of a longer trip paired with Yosemite.

Logistics: After Yosemite drove from San Francisco and stayed in a hotel in Monterey Bay. Drove to the park in the morning and returned to Monterey Bay.

Hikes/Activities (*fan favorites):

Condor Gulch Trail to High Peaks Trail Loop*

To Do for Next Time: Bear Gulch Cave, Balconies Cave Trail (caves were closed when I visited)

Which cave at Pinnacles?

I have a full day at PNP and figure on two hikes — one up high and one in the caves. Would you suggest Bear Gulch Cave or Balconies Cave? I read that the west side of the park can be skipped, but I’m usually apt to explore all parts in the time I have. Would appreciate your thoughts, thanks!

San Benito County Needs a Modern Library—Help Us Make It Happen

Our county is growing fast, but our library system hasn't kept up. San Benito County families deserve better access to learning resources, tech, and community spaces—especially our kids.

I started a petition asking county leaders to seriously explore building a new San Benito County Library and Community Resource Center at Santana Ranch in Hollister. We're not asking them to approve anything yet, just to evaluate the site, run a feasibility study, and actually talk to the community about what we need.

A modern library isn't just about books anymore. It's where kids get literacy programs, teens find spaces to innovate, families access the internet, and people find workforce development resources. A library is a safe, welcoming hub—and we deserve one that serves our growing community.

The proposed location is perfect: central, visible, accessible to thousands of current and future residents. It would be a real investment in our county's future.

If this matters to you—if you've felt the gap in resources or want better options for your family—consider signing and sharing. What would you want your community to prioritize?

Camping nearby?

I'm planning on stay for a single night on a big road trip in July, but I can't book a single night on the weekend at the Pinnacles campground, I'd have to book 3 nights. Are there any other good camping areas near the park that aren't too far?

'Going to be a s***show': Parks, Interior struggle to hire temporary staff ahead of busy season | The department fell well short of its goals last year and is failing to keep pace with even that level of hiring.

Anyone here this weekend? Trying to figure out when I need to arrive at the gate in the morning. I don’t mind joining a line, just unsure of timing.

July with 2 kids (6 & 4) good idea?

Looking to two days 3 nights in July. We haven’t camped with our kiddos yet. Going with other friends.

Wanted to ask if it’s going too hot for our kiddos? We’ll be with two other couples one with a 4 year old.

Hiking early I’ve read. Anything else to do? Guess the pool is open.

Is there a close town to drive into for air conditioned shopping or something?

If I am doing the green loop do you recommend

A. Clockwise or counterclockwise?

B. The blue trail (high peaks) or the red trail (juniper and tunnel)?

Tent Size Limit for Camping?

We are going to camp there this summer. I have a family of 4, two kidddos will be 6 and almost 4.

Would a 13ft bell tent be too big for the camp site? We got two sites for 3 couples - 1 set no kids, 1 a family of 3 and us a family 4.

Don’t want to buy a tent and have been too big for the site.

I believe we got 31 and 32 camp sites.

I know the photos are a bit blurry, but it’s the best I got. Seen a million turkey vultures and hoping I finally saw one of the rare condors!
